well, my only problem is, does this screw up your memory stick, i read on this tread that someone couldnt use their 512, well i only have my 2 gig high speed, and i dont wanna screw it up, but i have 3 bricked psps that ive gotten from people. but i dont have a working one either. sooooo this is gonna kinda suck. haha a friend of mine has a homebrew capable psp, but i cant get ahold of him. i hope i can still get this working,

--i have 4 psp batteries. the whole extra battery isnt a problem, the only thing im worried about is the memory stick

can someone answer this?

You can revert the Mem Stick back to it's normal state at any time by simply deleting the files, and formatting the PSP. Yes, your Memory Stick will work.

hmm, i got thinking, now i'm not bricked [nor have i before, lol] buuut, we use the official 1.50 update, what if we used a 3.52M33 update instead of the 1.50, the 3.52M33 update isn't kxploited, for it's just a common 1.00 eboot as the $ony updates are. so any ideas? i mean they do have to use a homebrew capable PSP, so making the update isn't really an issue

so if it's someone stuck on 3.52 they can use a friends PSP and go straight to 3.52M33 if this is even plausable

Qmark

so if it's someone stuck on 3.52 they can use a friends PSP and go straight to 3.52M33 if this is even plausableThe 3.52M33 package includes a patch which enables non-kxploited eboots to run on 1.50.

Squidman
August 23rd, 2007, 21:48
ya, but i meen the actual update, not the update creator.....cause it's a separate single eboot

u can only downgrade to 1.50 then from there u can update to any custom firmware

dang, people... I thought I answered all the questions that have been posted again on pg25 and after.

you can always fix a memory stick if it messes up, just not with a psp. Use a memory card reader and format it with your PC. Your psp will recognise it after that.

FOL... are you using an A/C adapter to get into service mode or are you using a USB thing with a power plug on it. The USB thing won't work. What I did, is use another battery to boot into the XMB, then swapped it with my pandora's battery (while the PSP is still powered on and plugged in) and reflashed the pandora's battery. Then, I did a complete power down, swapped batteries again and turned it on. After that I could swap out again (now using the former pandora) and it works perfectly normal.

WOOT, FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX MESSED UP MEMORY STICK!!! as i said earlier my 512 memory stick got screwed up while trying to do this. neither of my psps would read it...acted as if there was no memory stick in there...soo...i decided 2 screw around...and wat do you know? toggle usb in recovery mode somehow was able to read the stick and my computer was able to format it. so if you ever screw up and your memory stick stops workin right. just go into recovery mode and turn on the usb mode and format away!! thx to urherenow for his comment about memory card readers....that made me think to do this. :)

1.yes the psp is full 1.50 after u insert the normal battery so update to cfw at will

2.yes you can revert both mem stick and battery back to normal

3.no you dnt need a bricked psp for this any will do
and when i say any i mean any(bricked or not)

4.stop asking if it work they put hard work into this for who knows how long so why release somthing that might not work(think about it)

5.also this was to be held back intill the psp slim release but it was released by a a member or security breach it is unknown how but it was being sold on the black market and for the kindness of the hearts they released this to save people from paying......to much money

I cant get this to work.
The exe things dont seem to do anything when i click them.
"-Remove the Memory Stick and disable the USB connection.
- Run "installer" through the firmware on the PSP."
How if i removed the mem stick?

Execute "msipl" application on the PC with the msipl.bin to write
the IPL to memory stick.

There is no msipl

Any help?

yeah, they aren't very clear on this fact. but what would be the point if you couldn't upgrade? i mean the unbricking part would be good, but a half usable psp isn't much better than a bricked psp. that is my logic anyways, so i'm sure you can just upgrade.

August 24th, 2007, 01:14
For those of you on vista still having trouble as I was, you need to run the command prompt as an administrator (right-click, then click run as administrator)

Note: do not click the msinst.exe right-click the a shortcut to the command prompt and run as admin... once opened cd over to where ever you have the msinst.exe (more than likely the desktop) and then execute

It took me forever to figure that out... I noticed I still got the error even when the psp was disconnected, then realized that vista wasn't allowing me to access the psp though command prompt... I hope helps someone, lol :p

Some people said that they had, not really sure... but I don't see why it wouldn't work, it has a downgrade to 1.5 option when you get the menu working

if you read the readme its says:

NOTES AND RESTRICTIONS
- The firmware in the Memory Stick is not a full 1.50, but a minimal
subset. Therefore, not all applications (such as flashers, or
recovery apps) will load.

so some flashers may not work, but whats the harm in trying?!?! you can just unbrick again lol!

read this again:

NOTES AND RESTRICTIONS
- The firmware in the Memory Stick is not a full 1.50, but a minimal
subset. Therefore, not all applications (such as flashers, or
recovery apps) will load.

remember that you dumped 1.50 eboot's ipl to your memory stick then wrote it to the memory stick, meaning:
the subset is used to load the Pandora Menu from the memory stick and Flash the 1.50 eboot to the PSP, meaning its flashing full 1.50 version.

Hi,

So I put this program and battery together yesterday, but when I put it inside my bricked PSP the WLAN and Memory Stick lights went on, but the screen remained blank.

I know the batter and the Memory Stick work properly because I tried them out on my homebrew enabled PSP and it successfully dropped it down to 1.50.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

people, people... anyone who thinks that m33 won't work is trying to run it immediately after downgrading. You have to remember that when you downgrade it's 1.5 (full or not... doesn't matter) so you have to **run the kxploit patcher that came with the 3.52 m33 update package**, then the m33 update works just fine. I went directly from pandora's 1.5 to 3.52 m33.

Grizzly... no I don't think you're sorry because your question was answered just 4 posts above yours.

Labiosus : After you have a good battery and memory stick made (you can't make one with an official 2.81) you can use it on ANYTHING. Doesn't matter what firmware or hardware revision, bricked or not. It will just work.

oninotsume: All I can say is try it again on the one you used already. If it still works, then maybe your bricked one has a different problem (burned out backlight or sth). And you don't have to go through the process again either. Just see if the menu will come on. A cold reboot with a normal battery will bring it back out of the service mode so not to worry :D. As long as the memstick and wifi lights are coming on it sounds like it's trying to work, so with it on, try removing the memory stick and re-inserting it. If you can't get it to work then sorry but perhaps it's RIP for that psp.

well.. at the moment it shouldn't be hard to find a retail PSP with fw 3.5 or older (so you can at least downgrade with an original Lumines disk) so you put one on a credit card, downgrade, make your pandora stick and battery, then install official 3.xx firmware back on it and then return the thing stating that you found out a newer model will be here soon so you want to wait to buy it instead. No retailer can refuse your refund within a couple of days of purchase...

Right on...I forgot the kxploit patch the first time I tried to upgrade to 3.52m33 after the unbricking and of course it didn't work. I remembered the second time and had absolutely no problems going from the unbricked 1.5 to 3.52m33

This is truly nothing short of a man-made miracle!

urherenow

still costs me money though. I already had the original GTA when it came out, but I went out and bought a Lumines disk when that exploit came out, and now I just used this as an excuse to buy a stamina battery pack ( 1 guess what I did with the original battery). Sure I have 2 PSP's both with a battery but I'm more than likely going to trade 1 in to help pay for a slim PSP. With more memory... I foresee software in the not-to-distant future that will take advantage and be crippled on original PSPs :(

in fact my first hope (assuming we'll get homebrew on the slims) is that the extra ram gives the N64 emu an extra kick... and perhaps even the windows 95 one (honest... I only booted it up twice to show off).

Yes, just start your PSP without a battery, plug it in with the AC cord to start it up, put the Pandora battery
in, run the Battery creator, and turn it back to a normal battery, turn off your PSP, turn it back on without the AC cord and it should work. ^^ I've done it several times.

yes, just remember to hit square in the "battery" program, that'll back up the batteries eeprom, so when your done un-bricking, you can turn on the PSP again with the charging cable, put the battery in and run the battery app again, but hit L+R to restore the eeprom and it should be fine [even if an error message comes up]

Hmm, Not yet working for my PSP.

Original BrickedPSP:
Only green light turn on
No screen at all

With this Program:
1. At least the jix kix battery shown the downgrade program. (That means the LCD works :P )
2. You agree to all the warning.
3. It will downgrade using 1.50 kernel

Reboot, the "crash" 1.50 menu appears....
But all the menu button not working. Keeps staying on the "crash" menu. Reboot, turn off the battery, same thing again.

Try to "redo the" downgrade using the battery is useless, same problem.

Maybe I will need to wait for 1 - 2 weeks time, when they release v2.0 :-)

Update:
The error message is:

After writing to the flash - 100%.
Error message appears: Cannot write to System.dreg
Try multiple time, same error message.

then again, not only should it work, but you should also be able to install 3.52 m33 or 3.xx OE from HEN, no? Of yourse you can make your stick & Battery from one of those.

Holy cow. You guys are amazing. This news made my day. I missed out on the GTA downgrader; by the time I heard about it, I couldn't find a good copy anywhere. (Within a reasonable non-Ebay scalper price!) I downgraded a bunch of friends' PSP's via the Lumines hack, since I've had that game since the day I bought my pristine 1.5 back in 2005.

To be honest with you, and this is only an opinion, we may be perfectly fine with doing this on PSP Slim's because more than likely, Sony has already started doing production runs since they're supposed to be out in five or six weeks, right? It's hard to find PSP's in stores, because I'm reasonably sure Sony has stopped G1 PSP production.

At least, I hope I'm right. I want that video-out! =)

This was only released before the slim because the pandora files were leaked first. It says that in the readme.

When I finnaly downgraded i couldnt install m33's 3.52 but 3.03oe-a worked so I installed that then upped to m33's 3.52. Flawless all the way through.

hey i know im new here and all but this release has finally made me wanna post something....im soo thankfull bcuz of this bcuz my psp has been semi bricked for almost 8 months and now i have finally fixed it...anywyas i have found a way to turn a pandora battery back into a regular battery bcuz i couldnt wait to receive my backup from amazon so i went ahead and converted my only one and i succesfully changed it back to a regular battery....

To change a battery back to a regular battery...after downgrading u must take out the battery and connect the psp to the outlet without a bettery...the psp will turn on and when it does just go back into the pandora battery creator and chose the square option to turn it back into a regular batter..... after that it should work....if it doesnt work just go back to the battery creator again and hit square one more time...it worked for me after 2 tries...idk if anybody has discovered this but im just letting u guys know...thnx alot to all the members that helped me bring my psp back to life

can i use a card reader instead of using a second psp? I only have 1 psp and it's the one that is bricked.

No. The second PSP is needed to convert the battery and write the ipl to the memory stick. You need a homebrew enabled PSP to do both of those.

After countless attempts at mspformat ending with "cannot open logical drive." the idea occured to me to fdisk the stick. And now it's giving me the flashing light of death. Hooray!

if you followed my guide a few pages back you would have placed them in PSP\GAME and if you were currently using OE or m33 then change PSP/GAME to use the 1.50 kernal via recovery mode.

What good will it do to have ANYTHING in game150 when the first thing you do (after making your memstick and battery) is to downgrade it to 1.50?

Did you format it with windows explorer before using the mspformat? I don't think a 1GB exists that isn't a PRO Duo so it shouldn't be that. I can only personnaly say it works with an a Sony or SanDisk 256MB or 512MB stick. also you're using USB mode in the PSP when you format it, and not a card reader, right? If your PSP is is drive x:\ then the proper command is "mspformat x"

Edit: hold on, I fixed my screwed MSPD. That was certainly interesting.
Still cant get mspformat to do a damn thing but "cannot open logical drive."

read above and post back if you are doing it correctly

luxoflux: That has also already been addressed in this thread already. 3.52 m33 isn't kxploited so to use it from 1.50 you have to first run the no-kxploit patch (included with the 3.52 m33 package) BEFORE trying to install 3.52 m33.

what if i brick my psp its 3.52 then try the pandoras battery thing will i still need another psp with custom firmware or the original 1.50 kernal?

in other words:

yes

you need a PSP that can run 3rd party software to prep a battery and a memstick for use with this process

this process changes some stuff in an on board chip in the battery to make it think it's a "service mode battery" that's coming from Sony. and the other app is to extract an important file from the 1.50 update [not sure on this] and then to write said file to the memstick so when this process begins, the PSP/battery knows what to do on it's own, and all you have to do is follow instructions that the system displays.....which is read....and hit X when you need to, lol.

so idk, if your in school make a thread for all those that go to your school in your area that are in your grade that might be on this site, and they'll most likely have a PSP that can run 3rd party software and be able to help you out

good luck

ps
you don't need to brick the PSP first, you can just do it and it'll go hence why this is called a "Un-Bricker/Universal Downgrader"

Googling "cannot open logical drive" spawns one not-pandora thread, and dozens that are. Win98 seems the commonality.

I blame the nusb20e driver, and Sony's utter lack of a proper Win98 driver.

Microsoft is not responsible for making any driver.
Every manufacturer must be responsible for providing their own driver for the manufactured piece of hardware. What do you think is the Windows Driver Development Kit?

Probably the best thing to do would be to wait for a refinement of the whole process, where it's all done from within the PSP itself and without any need to deal with DOS and the eighty-bajillion different possible PC configurations.

I think win98 is doing 'something' peculiar to the MS.
The layout looks strange in FDISK, and when I tried again with an XP system, the same "cannot open logical drive" showed up, and lack of administrator prividges (on a university lab PC) means I can't reformat the stick there.

I have a vague idea of what the problem is, but I have no viable workaround.

Methinks an option I'll have to look into is mailing my stick off to someone who can get the deal to work, as it looks to me like the battery half is fairly straightforward.

I knew that a reverse engineering would be a possibility but being able to make this work without a special battery is just.. Insane. Excellent work!

There's no doubt in my mind that Sony simply used "refitted" batteries (those with the LCD display on them) and "reprogrammed" batteries for this purpose in many of their service centers.

It makes business sense too, since should the batteries need replacing, simply order a standard PSP battery and reprogram it.

I'd like to give a special thanks to the coders who made all this possible. I'd also like to thank those who put in the effort to post solutions to problems and new updates. Also thanks to those who created the installers to make life easier for us all.

You have made me a very happy and proud owner of a newly upgraded 3.40 OE-A psp. It was previously a nigh unbreakable and hassle-to-downgrade 2.81. I did it all within an hour, on my first try. If not for you amazing coders and posters out there, I'd never have dreamed of being to do this without purchasing either lumines or GTA, or paying of a hefty sum to modify it.

Dudes, I am grateful to tears. I hope that you guys keep up the good work and I hope to see more of your good works soon.

Thanks so much, again.

will create the firmware files on the root of the Memory Stick, as
well as msipl.bin.
- Connect the Memory Stick again via the USB connection of the PSP.
- Execute "msipl" application on the PC with the msipl.bin to write
the IPL to memory stick.
- Remove the Memory Stick and disable the USB connection.
- Execute "battery" application on the PSP to modify the battery.

If I were to downgrade my 3.50 PSP (with a motherboard of TA-082) with the Lumines exploit, upgrade to some custom firmware, created the jigkick battery and mem card, and if I did then downgrade back to 1.5 with the battery, could i upgrade, to lets say, 3.6 even though I downgraded my TA-082? Will it work again when 3.70 M33 is out or is it senseless to wait for that since Dark-Alex explained that it's gonna be difficult to create a CFW on 3.70/1 and I should better buy a new slim? BTW: Why can it be so difficult as we learned that the code has already been decrypted?

alright, i'm going to ask a total noob question, so hopefully some of y'all will go easy on me. :)

i've got a psp with 3.51. i understand that i have to change this to a custom firmware first before i can pull the pandora trick, and i had decided to go with the m33, but i can't find easy instructions or a tutorial to guide me through that step. i've read the readme but i'm not sure that i understand it completely. i'm usually pretty good with this stuff so i think i can handle it after i get m33 on there - just don't know how to get 3.51 m33 from reg 3.51?

if anyone can help, thanks, you can pm me. appreciate it.

i've got a psp with 3.51. As far as I know, it is not possible at this time to do much of anything with 351.

You are going to have to find someone with an already-unlocked PSP.

Team C&D have done it again,

A dream becomes a reality, we can now downgrade to any firmware version from any firmware :D

Here is the Content

We told you that we'd be releasing an unbricker for the M33 bricks. But then we got to thinking, maybe that just wouldn't be exciting enough. Would you like a super special surprise bonus? How about an unbricker for ALL PSPs? Yep, you read that right. We call it "Pandora's Battery".
There's a larger story behind this unbricker, though, and it deserves to be told. It's the culmination of years of behind-the-scenes research and development by some of the top names in PSP hacking, under the name of the Prometheus project. This group of people, from various development teams, was dedicated to developing and releasing PSP hacks and exploits, with the aim of improving the status of PSP homebrew, and making sure that it was kept alive.
For some time this project was highly successful - many releases from Noobz, C+D and others were direct results of this work. The zenith of this success was the development of this unbricker - which required some amazing technical leaps, including:
Reverse engineering of the service (unbrick) mode
Development of a technique to change an ordinary battery into a service mode trigger battery (and back)
Development of custom IPL code along with a technique to sign that code as authentic.
Even more impressive is that all of the above was achieved without any access to the official hardware or software. With careful nurturing, this unbricker and custom IPL was to become the foundation of a whole new homebrew environment. Unfortunately something happened to shatter the idyll. Somehow, the unbricker was leaked into the wider world before it was ready to be released. Whether this was deliberate, by one of the team members, or accidental via a security breach is still unclear. The fact is that this unbricker appeared on the black market, being sold for huge prices. As far as we know, it is probably very close to the same software that appears in at least some of the 'magic unbricker'/'jigkick' videos.
So, although the time was not right to release this (it would have been wise to wait at least until the PSP Slim release), our hand has been forced. In order to prevent small fortunes being made by leeches, we are giving this unbricker away for free. So - let it be known - if you have paid for an unbricker, then you have been ripped off. I suggest that you take up your grievances with the seller - it should never have been sold. And if you're unhappy about this being released before PSP Slim - then blame whoever it was that leaked or stole it.
It's unclear whether or not this is the end for the Prometheus project - hopefully not, but that is undecided so far. In case it is the end, it is worth a quick roll of honour. In alphabetical order:
Adrahil, Booster, Cswindle, Dark_AleX, Ditlew, Fanjita, Joek2100, Jim, Mathieulh, Nem, Psp250, Skylark, TyRaNiD.
And here are their respective C+D (Create and Destroy) nicknames.

Mathieulh = WiseFellow
Tyranid = bockscar
Fanjita = FullerMonty
Joek = CosmicOverSoul
Dark_Alex = Malyot
Chris = Caretaker
Adrahil = VoidPointer
nem = h1ckeyph0rce

Anyway - make sure to read the readme.txt in this release for how to use it, but in brief it works like this:
You run a program on a homebrew-enabled PSP that will convert a standard PSP battery into a jigkick battery. Note that you can't then use that battery normally - so you should use a spare one.
You run a program to generate the unbricker memory stick image, built from the v1.5 update EBOOT (note that this, and the custom IPL, means the release is completely free of Sony copyright materials).
You run some programs on a PC to install the image to your memory stick.
Now, you have a battery/memory stick pair that works just like the famous jigkick combination (but better) - just insert them into any PSP (even a brick) and the PSP will be reinstalled with the v1.5 firmware. As far as we know, this will continue to work for all future firmwares.
Enjoy! And remember - if you find this useful, please donate to the original developers - it's a lot cheaper than paying £1500 for it on the black market... Donations via paypal please via this Link:

1. You need to run it from the command line.
2. You need to know which drive your PSP is currently mounted as. (E:, F:, whatever)

Open a command prompt (this is usually achieved by going to Start > Run, typing cmd and pressing enter.

Then change directory to where the mspformat.exe is located. For example, if you saved it in a folder called pandora on your desktop, you would type

cd desktop\pandora

then run the command by typing:

mspformat.exe f

(where f is the drive letter your PSP is mounted to)

I got a a Pandora Battery and Memory Card with some changes on it. I wanted to create Despertar Cementerio 3 on it instead. So i thought the safest way for to redo the Pandora Memory Card again, so I reformatted my memory card, try to run Pandora's Battery Firm. Installer on it again and it keep giving me (8002014C). Can someone help me out and tell me what I have done wrong. Current using 3.40 OEA. Many thanks

P.S Also I still got the files (kd, registry and msipl.bin) from the original Pandora Memory Card that I created for it, can I just copy and paste back into or would it not work.

I don't know if anyone has done this yet ... but I wanted to be able to update straight to 3.71m33-2 (from 3.10oe-a if anyone cares) so I decided to use Pandora (DAX's new version despertar_cementerio3) but I still wanted the option of using Pandora for a full 1.5 or Pandora 1.5 unbrick/downgrader as well.

I had already made a Hellcat's 3.xx Pandora MS stick setup for a Pandora 1.5 install, so I made a copy of the kd folder and renamed it {1.5}kd and edited pspbtcnf.txt to load the full 1.5 and renamed the original folder {P1.5}kd. I also renamed the registry folder {1.5}registry and the msipl.bin to {1.5}msipl.bin.

I then installed DAX's 3.71m33-2 Pandora maker and ran it. It created a new msipl.bin and new registry and kd folders which I then renamed to {371}foldername... deleted the 150 and 340.pbps needed for that install and was done! I just rename the folders for what version I want to end up with, convert a battery, and run the unbricker 1.50, pandora 1.50, or 3.71m33-2. Quick and easy.

When I decide I want to change it, Hellcat's software is quick and easy for converting the *extra* *fat!!!!!!!* battery to pandora/nonpandora. So with IRShell or similar program you can do it all without touching a computer after the initial setup.

If anyone sees an easier way of doing this or something that is screwing up my PSP without me realizing it, please let me know.

As far as testing goes... I've ran Hellcat's without a flaw, and just ran DAX's on another PSP and everything looks good. I'll probably borrow the 1.5 again tomorrow and try moving it up to 3.71 this time. DAX's also give the option of installing the original 3.71 fw if anyone is intrested......LOL.

Side Note: For all you people who don't know or want to do command line app's to make all this stuff Hellcat's pan3.xx_rev2b is awesome and runs everything from inside any homebrew capable PSP. Get it at http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-development-forum-11/t-release-pandora-installer-for-3xx-kernels-122449.html

JUst plug your PSP in AC adapter without the battery, turn on the PSP, when XMB appears put the battery and remove the AC adapter. After this
you can revert back your Pandora battery to a one.
Your PSP aways will boot in service-mode when an Pandora Battery is inserted and withou the "Magic Memory STick" it will show an black screen.

And yes... i recomend you buy an new battery and leave the another one as Pandora. No one knows when you´ll have a brick.

Okay, I've downloaded and used Pandora's GUI v1.5 and the Battery was Pandorized succesfully and it did make contact with my generated Magic Memory Stick....However, The Slim's FW was unchanged and a Log was generated at the Memory Stick, it reads:

M33_360_INSTALL_LOG.TXT
Install initialization... OK
Reading IPL... OK
Verifying ipl... Failed -> Not the expected IPL

So the msipl.bin file is not working for me...any guess why?

1.5 kernel doesnt run on slims.
Correction it does run. Just like you think it needs to be polished up. There are many complications running it on the slim including no screen support. Dark_Alex came much closer when developing a screen plugin for his pandora battery for the slim but apparently he's still not done. Only time will tell if he can get the 1.50 kernal to work on the slim.

Yes it will only run with 3xx compiled eboots. Many developers are starting to make there apps or games with the 3xx kernel though so not to worry to much. It only takes developers a few more minutes to make it work on the slim so everyones doing it and even people are re-digging their old projects and making them run on the slim which is nice.
