CrazyC (http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=3179&start=270) has posted up a new binary of his Dos Emulator for the PSP, heres what he posted:

New binary and patch with fix to input mapping, more debugging for ir keyboard and some changes to the recompiler that I'm fairly sure that I've worked the bugs out of but if anything breaks with this that worked before, tell me..

Cool, another update. Anyone tried ROTT yet. Got it to play great, but it was slow.

Also, can we just get normal eboots for the simpletons among us?

Rise of the Triad is already ported perfectly in a game engine named PSPROTT (i think)

Search in the main dcemu psp page

I'll do the EBOOT in a few minutes. 'll test the Targus Keyboard also ^_^

If you're smart enough to figure out what you just typed, I think it shouldn't be much of a problem for you to solve.

So have they released a virtual (floating) keyboard for this yet, or are they still relying on that ridiculous input system they had from day 0?

ehm ... don't call this input method rediculous! It certainly is NOT. It's ust not that easy to learn and therefore not a good way of input for ppl. who use DosBox not that often.

So I think there should be both ways of input: The old method with the key combos and a virtual keyboard. I mean the combos should be damn fast if u r used to it, but u have to learn that first :)

Anyway, does s/o have a working eboot fromthis? any chance he/she is going to upload it? :)

For people having troble, search the forums
there is an easy way to use keyboard you have to create a ".bat" file to map the keys

Apologies for the ridiculous comment, that came out a little harser than I actually meant to say.

Have to give them props for trying something new.

Maybe a choice of input methods would be a good feature however.

Cheers

of course u can map the keys ... but do u have a modded psp with more than 100 buttons which u can map in order to get close to typing similar to a computer keyboard? :D If yes, then: MAKE ME ONE, TOO! :rofl:

I mean of course u can map the buttons of the psp, eg. that if u hit square it writes an "a" on the screen ... but u don'T get very far by this method I suppose.

Or did I just get u wrong and u mean there's realy an alternative input method to the key-combo input?! Then I appologize, but I doubt there realy is ... :(

Anyway, again: Does any1 have a ready-to-use eboot of this release? If yes, can s/o please upload it?

Hi Murdock,
you can get the latest version of dosbox psp from my site at
http://www.emunews24.de/dosemus.html#sony%20psp257

I always compile the latest bin to an eboot.pbp.

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!! :)

But u are a lill too late ... ;) ... I already searched and finally found elf2pbp (it's been quiet tricky to find ... not even google was able to :D) and converted it myself ...

But as I said, thx for ur help!

This DosBox is way better than the last one I used (about the pre-pre-last release ...) the mouse movement is better, the games load faster, etc.

well done Mr. CrazyC :thumbup:

Oh, okay. And yes, you're right. This dosbox version is great. The mouse movement is realy better than the older version. But there are some troubles with calibrating. So, if i move my stick and stop, the mouse cursor continues his way slowly. But if i touch my stick again, the cursor did not move... strange

The sound emulation is really good and i did not found bugs in command keen 4. The really strange thing is, i want to play prince of persia and map the keys correctly, but ingame, this does not run.

But, CrazyC makes a really good job like Strmnnrmn on DaedalusPSP. Keep up the great work:thumbup:

1. this cursor thing also happens with SOME psp titles, so I think it's not a problem of the emulator. I haven't played around with it much, but I loaded Colonisation and there was no such issue with the cursor u described. Maybe it's just that the nub was stuck a little. I don't know, but I'll watch for this problem next time I test the emulator.

2. how do u enable sound? I mean yes, it's on by default, but I mean what values do u set in the configs of the games? It's been a while since I messed with DOS :D and I always hated the sound configuration in DOS, especially when Win95 came up and the drivers for DOS were screwed up :)

IM back!

you can get arund the typing by insalling windows 3.1 works grate for me (boot time 30 sec nice speed in windows)

Can anybody tell me, what i must do with the 0.71.patch.gz file? I am a noob sry.....

Murdock
August 24th, 2007, 16:08
@Tama777: Just take the other link, provided on Page 2 and download the ready-to-use DosBox from there :D then u don't need the files of the first page. They are in elf format, which is something like a program code, I think ... So it needs to be encoded to an eboot.pbp file, which u have to get an additional program for ... pretty compliated and time-consuming stuff ... :D

Anyways, here another question:

Does s/o know how to assign the mouse to the nub of the PSP? I mean by this INPUT command? I can assign any keyboard button to any button of the PSP, but I can't get this wonderful thing to enable the mouse in a game called Archon Ultra ... :( that's sad! In colonisation the nub is the mouse cursor by default ... it's strange ...

1. i know about this "feature" ( ;) ) only on Dosbox PSP. Not in another emulators or games (psx or psp)
2. you can leave the settings for sound in the config but i recommend to set the blaster settings to

sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=5
dma=1
hdma=5

you don't need to download this file. You can always download the latest compiled build from my site at
http://www.emunews24.de/dosemus.html#sony%20psp257

And we are a german site. If we can help you, let us know in our forum, if you want - of course. But on this board here (at DCEmu), there are many more people that can help you (but in english).

This is just for playing, if you don't want to write, download dos navigator or norton comander to load the games.
I have tested a lot of games and you don't need more than 3 or 4 keys.
If a game needs a lot of keys :(
I have never used the key combo input (is really annoying :mad:).
A virtual keyboard (like pspuae keyboard) would be great :thumbup:

Oh, ein Deutscher ... :) ... dann guten Tag ;)

Nah, I've had this lill error on some other games (original PSP titles), too. UNfortunately, since I try out a lot of games, I can't tell u which one it was :o

And thx for the settings, I'll try them later ... it's strange, Warcraft for example recognizes the standard soundblaster for the sounds in-game, but not for midi ... :( I don'T understand this. I mean now I have "sound", but no music. ... hmm, I am just thinking ... does Warcraft have music at all? :)

For all those who care (and don't like the input method of this Dos EMulator), I took the old release of some of the people here, who added DosCommander (is this the name of this handy program? If not, I am sorry!) and combined it with the newest release available here ...

So here is a pretty easy to use DosBox, u don't need to type anything in order to get ur games working. Just copy the game folder into the "dosbox" folder in the root directory of ur memstick. Then u can start DosBox and select the folder with the nub and the shoulder buttons and start the game ... very handy :D

http://rapidshare.com/files/51382456/dosbox_psp.rar

But again: I did NOT make this application or whatever, I just took it from another release here on this board and put it together with the newest release of DosBox here, which I compiled with elf2pbp.exe and added a simple (but not bad-looking) Icon and background. So I didn't invent the wheel ... but it makes using DosBox much easier (especially for young ppl. who never had the honor to mess with Dos ... :)

I hope u like this ... thx again to CrazyC for this emulator. Please keep improving it! I hope to be able one day to play Dungeon Keeper on my beloved PSP ... :)

[EDIT]: Sorry, I forgot ... this archive is password protected ... it's just "Murdock" ... copy 'n' paste and u can unpack it

Thanks as well.. How about mapping the controls? I basically made some bat files with 3-4 letter names for all my games, and in them I would map the buttons for p-sprint. So now we have it easier for those less educated in dos to get into the game, but to play them is another story. Not sure how it would be best to choose your mapping.

Oh and of course many thanks to Crazy C
