Abraxas (http://abraxas.no-ip.org/ndsdev/mpeg4/) has released an excellent new Mpeg4 Player for the Nintendo DS, heres the release details:

I use xvidcore (my fix version) building mpeg4 decoder lib.

sample1
http://abraxas.no-ip.org/ndsdev/mpeg4/sample2.m4v
sample2
http://abraxas.no-ip.org/ndsdev/mpeg4/sample1.m4v

put m4vtst1.sc.nds (at m4vtst1.rar) into card root dir
rename sample1(2).m4v to s.m4v into card root dir

run m4vtst1.sc.nds and play s.m4v mpeg4 file.

It's still not optimization (slow...). I found some arm asm & arm dsp asm optimization code in mplayer sources libavcodec lib. maybe i will change lib for decoding (xvidcore seem slow).

PS. I think it possible to decode mpeg4 simple 256x192 24fps when best optimization idct & yuv->rgb and others. (some paper talksabout optimization arm decoding mpeg4)

I gave it a test and it works :D sadly no sound and its slow. But if this ever gets better and works with mp4 video like the ones from podcasts this could replace the DPG format.

Wow, a great idea. Maybe a .flv player would be nice.

Somehow, it doesn't seem realistic to expect full-speed, full-screen, full-motion m4v playback with sound on the DS.

Halloween (2007) Trailer converted from HD 1080 Apple trailer with FFMPEGX on OS X. I left the sound out because this doesn't support sound anyway.

Settings: XVID ffmpeg codec, 165 kbps, 15 fps

Just copy the s.m4v onto the root of your card.
