Nice pics ;)

How mouch of the tip do you have to cut off for the internal speakers to work with MapThis ;)

I made a cable of my own :)
But i did not include the Audio Out on my Prototype :D I included a blue LED to show that the unit has Power and a USB Female connector so i can hook up my USB to MiniUSB + Powercharger PSP Cable.

This way i can use the cable for my PSP and my Holux M1000 or i can charge both my PSP and my Holux via the same cable :)
Big thanx goes to Hansi at www.psxcare.com for sthe sponsoring of the GPS unit and the controllercable ;)

Could you perhaps post some info about how mouch of the tip you have to cut to make the PSP generate sound trough the internal speekers :)

I would hate if i cut to mouch off :D

Cheers.

I got some questions on the PM i wanted to share for the greater good :)

By any chance do you have a write up on how you made you cable? if you don't want to share i understand, but you have the ideal cable for charging and using the gps at the same time.

Well it was not that hard to make, i just havent had time to write down some scematics for it.
Its really simple though ;)

Just connect the charging USB male to the USB Female in series and connect a wire from the right place on the USB to a resistor and then to the remoteplug, add ground to the remoteplug from the USB and there you have it.

Just use a USB to Carlighter adaptor for power and a USB to Miniusb and Chargercable and connect that to the USB female plug ;)

I just added a LED to show when the package was powered and charging ;)

Give me some time and ill try to make some scematics on my testsite www.pspfaq.tk

Thanks for the info, i'm still al little confused, but i'll try looking at the pictures to figure it out....could you take a picture with all the wires showing? most of your pictures some of the wires are going out of the image and i can't tell where everything goes.

also, what is the image in the top right of this picture?:

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/PCB.jpg

Take a peek here for more pics:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=507696&postcount=3

The Green thing with numbers on it is the Remotes PCB "Circuit board" just if Sony decides to change the colorcode of the wires. :)

The third pic showing my PSP running MapThis pretty mouch sums all up.
http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/0002.jpg

The Black wire going up on screen is connected to my USB HUB "See it as a USB to Power connection"
The USB Female connector with a Black cable connected is a Data + Power connection and ive hooked up a USB -> MiniUSB + Powercoard to the PSP cable to it, the Mini USB is connected to the Holux and the Powercable is connected to the PSP, this provides both the PSP and the Holux with Power and Signals from my Holux M1000.

On the Pic below that i just added a LED lighting up when Powered by a CarLighter to USB as you can see on the picture to the right of it.
http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/0004.jpghttp://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/0006.jpg

The Bottom right pic shows the cable connected to my PSP + Holux without Powersupply *Led not lit*.
http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/0005.jpg

The White wire going up is the Serial interface that goes from the PCB to the PSPs remote, The Black wire going down from the unit is Power only, and the Brownish is the USB Female where i attatch a USB ---> MiniUSB + Powercable, Mini USB goes to the Holux and the Powercoard goes to the PSP, then i just have to drain power from my car via a CarCigarette adaptor to USB.

Hope that cleared something up.

But try posting in the Forum for smaller questions, tons of other people gets an answer that way ;)

And dont be ashamed

Hello,
i am new to PSP and especially interested in GPS applications. Now maybe i made a mistake:
From China i did order a cable for connecting PSP to Holux 236. In parallel i did buy a new PSP. Meanwhile the cable has arrived, but it looks like it cannot be used, because new PSP are using a different ( 12pin ) kind of connector ( see also pictures this thread, Sept. 8th, msg from "mr7" ). Until now i haven't seen any information on it's pinout or any offers for fixed cables.
Maybe an alternative solution also could be, using the PSP top connector ( like being used for PSP-290 ). Needed plugs are standard parts, but also in this case some pinout informations would be required.
Who has an idea?

Klaus

the cable from china would only work with "phat" psp.. there is no way to hook up holux via top usb socket on the psp so don't count on it...
we are still working, investigating if slim models would work with holux..so hang on..

> there is no way to hook up holux via top usb socket

Thank you for answering. I guess the Holux 236 cannot be used here, because serially it only is running 38400bps. So the interesting question is, what type of interfacing is used between PSP-290 and PSP. As far as i have heard, data rate is 4800bps and level must be around 3V-TTL. Using USB connectors must not mean, also USB protocol will be used and in this case i cannot imagine, they are using it.
I have ordered a PSP-290 for finding out it's "secrets". In case conventional 4800bps serial NMEA data ( using 3V-TTL ) would be accepted, there is a choice of usable receivers on market.

BouncE asked me how i made my cable and i havent had time to post some scematics on it but he sent me a PM with a drawing he had some questions about and it looked like this:

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5573/presentation1rk8.png

Almost spot on :)
The only diffrence is that i havent made my USB -> Minis USB + Power cable myselve, i got my cable from a gamestore for about 2$ :)

Other than that it was spot on :)
You just connect the USB Male + FEMALE cable in series and then add a resistor and route a cable from the resistor to the Serial cable, then you route ground from the serial cable to USB ground :)

If you want a LED as i have then just add another Resistor and Led and connect that directly on the USB cables too :) This LED lights up when powered by the USB -> Carcigarette adaptor and shows the unit is powered.

Then it all should be set up nicely.
From PCB to two USB cables "One male that goes to Power cigg adaptor and one Female that allows you to connect a USB -> mini USB + Power cable so it will both provide signal + current to charge tour PSP and GPS unit ;) I added some sound out cables at a later time by just soldering them to the PCB directly where the serial cable is connected.

Ill try to take some time and make a detailed scematic on my cable ;) just bear with me :)

I think you get the idea from this in the mean time ;)

Edit: Added a USB Pinout:

One question... Why did you made this thing... Is the Holux able to charge while in use with Mapthis.?!

Or what was your intention to make this?!

Or did you want to add additionally AudioPlugs or want to experiment with this?!

Or did you want to add additionally AudioPlugs or want to experiment with this?!

The cable i got that was factorymade did have Sound output but it wont charge the PSP or the Holux when its connected, and i would hate myselve if i was driving and suddenly all power drains and i get blank screens or GPS goes offline ;)

My cable was just and attempt of correcting this flaw "as i saw it" and make a cable that charged both GPS unit + PSP and it works fine.

Yes you can still use the PSP and GPS when theyre charging, that was the whole idea :)

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/0006.jpghttp://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/0013.jpg

Sound output was added just because the cable i got had one and because the PSP unit mutes the speekers when you insert the remote plug, and i dont want to cut the tip because that solution dosent work with TA Mobos.
The GPS stops sending data on that Mobo PSP if you cut the tip.

Havent tested it on my slim but i hate to ruin good cables ;)
And i love to make things a little more for my needs :)
Ive worked with Gameconsoles/DVD players almost my whole life "modding them and making my own solutions and modchips" this is a peice of cake compared ;)

Ps. i saw about three (3) questions and i answered them all ;)
Ds.

The left picture is showing the PSP+Holux being charged at the same time the Holux provides the PSP with GPS signals ;)

The right pic is just showing the wiring "what goes where" and its not plugged in to a powersource :)

But the idea that i went with was both charging PSP + GPS and having MapThis running at all time ;)

Hi there.

A while ago i promised some scematics of my cable but i didnt have time to finish them, now i did have some time and i think i got it right ;)

Please doublecheck before soldering, and remeber i warned you. :)
Im dead tired but here goes

I will make a FAT PSP and a SLIM PSP cable tutorial but i havent recived a Slim Remote so if anyone want to contribute with say two slim remotecables i would appreciate it  and make a guide for the Slim ones too ;)

This Guide is for the FAT PSP - The old ones

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/scematics/001.jpg
First off all we start with cutting a Test PCB circuitboard up, just mark up with a pen where you want the lines and cut in each end like this and bend it untill it snaps in two.

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/scematics/002.jpg
Now we just decide how to connect the cables to the PCB and yhis is the layout i went with, this way just to be on tah safe side i cant short + and - :)

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/scematics/003.jpg
After that is settled we solder on some wires, note that the second USB male is Optional just if you want to power up your PSP and GPS so it will charge when driving. And the USB Female can be switched for a Mini-USB Male cable if you want to skip the Charging feature for both PSP + GPS unit.

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/scematics/004.jpg
After the USB cables are soldered to place we solder on the Remote cables as following.

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/scematics/005.jpg
Now its time to solder a Resistor to the PCB just in case the unit sends some extra current, this is a precaution and some people dont use a resistor but better to be safe than sorry and ending up with a broken PSP eeh. Note that the value on the Resistor may vary depending on what cables and the lenght of it, its natural for cables to act as a resistor so feel free to experiment with the values.
a value of 1K ohm seems to do the trick for most users.

http://www.vampire.se/misc/psp/misc/HoluxCable/scematics/007.jpg
This step is only a extra feature to my cable, it will light up a LED when the cable is powered by and external source and show that it has current running trough, and also show when the cable is able to charge both PSP and GPS unit :)

________________________________________________

This Guide is for the SLIM PSP - The new thin ones

NOTE! that im not finished with this guide because i dont have two Slim Remotecables, and as i said before if anyone *Wink wink* would like to donate me two cables i can complete this tut for Slim owners.

Depends on what inputs you have on your stereo :)
I dont have a 3.5 mm phono input but i have RCA in on my stereo and i modded my car so i have the inputs on the side under the dashboard so i can connect any soundsource, *i-pod, psp etc."
i think its easier to convert a RCA input than a 3.5 mm phono one :D

Pin 7+8+9 should be enough for audio :D
i think the setup was:
7 - White = Left audio
8 - Black = Audio Ground
9 - Red = Right Audio

ok well i just finished part of the cable last night to test my Holux M1000 and everything worked perfectly, thanks PDG. Just gotta finish up wiring the audio out. Might change it for the charging function later. Everything was really easy using that schematic except that those wires are so damn small it makes it really hard! but no the less excellent write up, it works perfectly.

NEVER rely on COLOURS!

The scematic i provided you guys with even shows wich pins to use, so if the colours are diffrent dont start untill youve traced all cables with a multimeter or so first.
Draw up all Pinouts yourselve and sort them accordingly.

i didnīt have a 1 ohm one so i took three 0.325 and came up with 0.975 ohms and that did the trick for me :D

The type of resistor varies from person to person due to the internal resistance of the materials or lenght of a cable you use.
*Never make a cable longer than 5 meters :D

Try starting with 1k ohm and if that works go with that, but if a higher or a bit lower value works and gives you a faster respond then go for that :D

Friendly tip: The last thing you want to do is to encase the components so you can test this :D

Im to oldschool to upgrade my Fat psp units after 3.52 M33-4 because i think its the most stable firmware for homebrewers, and i have like 4-5 psp units *One without a screen because i dropped it testing mapThis and writing tuts *Lol*

Byt my slim is upped to 3.90 M33-2 but i havent got any 1.50 kernel mode support on it and i really dont want to run eboot loader first :D
I want it all to work as a 3.52 M33-4 Fat does, just plug and play :D

that would be the ultimate for me and many others.

Hello Derek, are you living in HKG? Do you have any idea we can buy this GPS cable in HKG? The official web site (http://www.pc-mobile.net/pspgps.htm)is quite expensive and they still charge USD5.0 for HKG shipment. My PSP is a fat one.

Hello,
i am new to PSP and especially interested in GPS applications.

Klaus

you need a phat psp, it seems you got the slim... phat only, you need to buy a phat psp...

It all depends on how the GPS is configured, it may look like a Mini-USB port on a Holux GPS but it isnt :D
Its a Serial port but the connection is a Mini-USB because it fitted best :D
