are there different regions for the Wii, as there was with DVDs and the PS2? how can i tell what region my Wii is from?

unfortunately there are different regions for the wii limiting you to play games within your region, you can usually tell the region by going to the wii setup menu it will tell you the firmware version. For europe (PAL) it would be like x.xxE, america (NTSC) would be x.xxU and japan (NTSC-J) would be x.xxJ. If you wish you can have a modchip fitted to counteract these region settings, like wiikey ,wiinja deluxe and cyclowiz
