PSPDemon has uploaded a Video to Youtube of him accessing the Test ( debug ) Areas of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the PSP (via N64 Emulator Daedalus)

This is the Debug Rom of OoT, I mainly wanted to see if it could run at all, and what would the framerate be. And to my suprise... it ran pretty well on the debug rooms... i tried sound with it....and i was shocked... a framerate between 15-24 fps with sound... and the sound wasnt even half that bad!

Not only that, room 125 ( which PJ64 crashes on ) is accessible on daedalus! truely amazing in my opinion

ill be lloking in a few other games later on.... but for now, more looking into the OoT debuging.

PSPdemon notes you have to be on custom firmware. so dont ask how to get it on a 3.52 ;)

This isn't really *secret* areas rather than test levels used through near final development of OoT, great none the less ;)

Hmmm... Room 125 is just the scene where you have to hide from the guards on your way to Zelda. Why would Project64 not be able to run it?

Awesome, I'm going to have to try this... What's needed to access the test levels?

Yea, i was just as impressed that it even ran at all, let alone with sound at that speed.

this is one that wasnt finished, mainly a testing one... if you try it there are nor guards or anything.. also, i cant get pass in picture 6.... its the farthest i can go.

Awesome, I'm going to have to try this... What's needed to access the test levels?

Use the following prefrences.

Also, youll need the debug rom ( which i will no supply for obvious reasons )

Prefrences

--------------

Texture Updates Check - Disabled
Frameskip - 1
Limit Framerate - no
Dynamic Recompliation - Enabled
Audio - Enabled
---Adjeust Frequency - Enabled
Controller - Dpad

this makes it easier to control the map select...

and a little easier to do a few other things as well ;)

Thanks for Everyhting,

Great job, anyways since we are the topic of N64 I hope StrmnNrmn updates his blog soon or tonight since he hasn't in a while. Hope he has made some big improvements since then.

hmmm...yes it ran pretty well in the test levels, but did anyone else notice the lack of enemies and such? (i know they don't have enemies, but if you were to play regular oot than i think it would run alot slower due to the fact that there are more sprites therefor taking up more cpu.

is it me being a bit thick, can we play n64 zelda oot (all the way through) using Daedalus?

it will slow it down...

ive played though against shadow link with sound at 8-10 fps ( which isnt really that bad ) and without sound 15+

so yes your right on that statement :P

you can, but its very slow sadly

there is a little speed up in the debug version, though not enough to consider it worth talking about... lol

i will say though, you can do alot more in the debug that you can in the regular rom.

for example, you can skip around and try the other levels, as well as mess around the beta levels...

i just didnt think the debug version would load, since the rom itself is over 64 mb's..... that double what the original rom had... thats why it shocked me that it could do all this in daedalus :)

Thanks for Everytihng,

I'm a little confused about this. Which version of Daedalus did you use? Was it a beta of the upcoming version, or the latest released version? I just want to clarify for myself or anyone else who is also confused. Thanks, and great find.

this is news? i couldve posted about this a long time ago then.. o well. i might as well say that i beat zelda OoT on psp before and that i tested the zelda majora's mask demo rom on daedalus. u can basicly do anything in the game i guess since u have all the items and masks minus fierce diety's mask.

I tried this ages ago on older revisions of Daedelus... good to see things are working better on the test maps too.

120 and 121 are working great too (provided you're using a Zelda Edit patched ROM, a clean debug ROM won't work), Sutaru (aka 122) works like a treat as well. As does the treasure chest room.

The only problem with 120 is that the lighting from the windows isn't working properly, although other things are effected like this too, such as the ToT window and the sword charge.

EDIT: You don't need to be on a custom firmware, though. Anyway firmware that can run homebrew will do (i.e. 1.5, 2.0).

EDIT: Actually, I just tried this out for myself. The Depth Test map isn't displaying properly, a lot of the textures sometimes disappear.

EDIT: Here's some screenshots for people who can't be bothered/can't in general watch the youtube video.

Depends if you are willing to play with low fps, test areas are smaller thats why we are getting good fps.

Obviously, there is something here that I don't know about. In the debug version, the text of the level select screen is odd

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc271/nograzgeis/sd0000-1.png

And I can't see how people say the game can be beaten if I can't even get the deku shield because the shop is non-functional.

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc271/nograzgeis/sd0000.png

Am I using bad roms or is something else going on here? For both, I use the standard controls, no audio, Dynarec enabled, and frameskip 2. Don't know if those matter or not.

Hmm, I see what you guys mean about the messed up text and market. It's due to the inability to load backdrops properly. That sucks big.

Anyway, after seeing how the test maps would do I decided to see how well modifications would do, or more specifically, more intensive modifications like Xu Yuan's mod. Turns out, there's only a couple of FPS drop. The overall mod doesn't look so bad either. Infact, I think the waterfall looks even more defined...

U are able to beat the game with Daedalus R9 as xg917 said, = ) I have save files ,

The Tjalian
September 5th, 2007, 17:49
Yeah, but what's the framerate like on R9? Isn't it considerably slower?

EDIT: Save files are compatible with EVERY emulator, not just Daedalus. I have a 100% complete save file as well, doesn't prove I did it on Daedalus.

xg917
September 6th, 2007, 02:24
tjalian: framerate is like the same, and save files from other emulators arent compatible with daedalus.
me and hald actually took turns beating each temple on daedalus. when he finished a temple he would send me the save files and then i beat a temple and send the save files again. you need R9 to beat the dodongos dungeon and spirit temple (dodongos dungeon freezes on r10 - r12. spirit temple freezes as well even with dynarec off.)

edit: here is the link to my thread with the zelda save and explanation, http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=65389&highlight=zelda+complete
