Japanese top 20 includes just four non-Nintendo platform titles

Another successful week last week of software sales in Japan for Nintendo saw PlayStation platforms represented by just four titles in the top 20.

According to data from Media Create, three of those came in the top 10, including new number one Sengoku Musou: Moushouden.

However, the rest of the top 20 was entirely made up of titles for the DS or Wii, and there was just one PlayStation 3 title in the entire top 50 – Hot Shots Golf 5, at number 17.

There were once again no titles for the Xbox 360 in the chart last week.

The top ten in full:

1. Sengoku Musou 2: Moushouden (PS2)

2. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate (DS)

3. Pheonix Wright 3 (DS)

4. Mario Party 8 (Wii)

5. My Housekeeping Diary (DS)

6. Dragoneer's Aria (PSP)

7. SD Gundam: G Generation Cross Drive (DS)

8. J-League Winning Eleven 2007: Club Championship (PS2)

9. Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber (DS)

10. Wii Sports (Wii)

7 again for Nintendo in the top 10, that always seems to be the limit. I would like to see one of these weeks a chart completely dominated by Nintendo from 1 to 10 as Nintendo can actually do it.

Nintendo continues 20 yr software domination in Japan.

In the U.S. and Europe you would be right. In Japan though Nintendo has controlled the majority of the software market since 1984.

If you are going to use the total number of consoles sold to determine who has the most market share then you need to add up all of the consoles that Nintendo was selling at the time. As an example on the first graph if you check the GB\GBC option you will see it was selling almost 3 to 1 vs the playstation.

its system vs. system
not portable system vs. home system

its completely different, you cant compare them

they lost the last 2 to playstation, the same thing happened here in the US
you said they have had the market since 1984, but they didnt

The argument was about who had the largest market share, not who sold the most of x console. The other user is correct, nintendo has always dominated in this respect, and this is largely due to nintendo's domination in the handheld market.

The GB and its relatives sold something like 120+ million units in addition to whatever console nintendo had out be it the NES, SNES, or the n64. Nintendo has always dominated the video game market because of this.

Microsoft, if i heard right has many ties to sega with the 360

To me the...

PSX won the console war although it didn't deserve it at all
PS2 won the war and wh00t it did deserve it :D
PS3....BWAHAHAHH!!!!!! Oh sorry, its funny....
