Will retail on mainland for EUR 179

The consortium responsible for the HD-DVD format have named the Xbox 360 add-on as one of a handful of players that will experience a slight dip in price throughout mainland Europe.

The news was confirmed at the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) consumer electronics fair in Germany, where the new price was announced at EUR 179 - a 20 Euro saving on the original cost.

However, the announcement didn't come from Microsoft itself, which is yet to give its official take. That may include an update on the UK price, but, again, this is far from confirmed.

Expect an update in the coming days.

This is good, if Microsoft cuts the price worldwide for HD DVD and along with Paramounts decision and of course Tosibha's constant price cuts, and along with the Cheap Chinese HD DVD players coming, this could be a good year for HD DVD.
