The 'games make kids violent' furore has now turned its fiery attention on Nintendo as the company gears up to launch the gun-shaped Wii Blaster Remote attachment.

Angry parents are in fits over Nintendo's decision to release the peripheral for the family-orientated console. "Great, this is what we need," said one furious parent blogger. "Children with guns learning how to aim and shoot. Then we can sit back and wonder what is happening to our country with kids killing kids."

They added: "What's next? Could we make it squirt blood, too?" Well, no because it would go all over the TV and that would be rubbish.

Advertisement:
"Why don't they enclose an application to the NRA (National Rifle Association) in every box as well? The marketing person who came up with this brain child of an idea should be fired," commented a "very concerned grandparent".

Another said in the US blog: "I think it's irresponsible for Wii to come out with a controller that looks like a gun. What kind of message are we sending as parents when we buy these things for our kids?" If you think it's irresponsible, why would you buy it for your child?

Is it not down to the parent to take responsibility for what games their children own and play?

Funny how complain about something that vaguely looks like a gun, yet no one bats an eye over time crisis 4 and the G-con/
How bizzare.

Parents are completely over reacting about this whole thing. Just because a kid is using a plastic gun shaped device shooting fictional characters doesn't mean they are going to go on a real shooting spree. Its the parents job to choose what their kids play anyway and to let them know whats real and not.

They seem to be over reacting too much!

Parents worried about their children is the biggest BS I've ever heard. All those Parents need to shut the hell up and just deal with it.

Did they ever think that without the cartoon violence and simulation violance that kids/anyone would become boared and try to just kill people in real life? I'm telling ya, Violent Video Games save lives!

wtf the gun is for the resident evil games which are rated m it makes no sense to complain about as its for adults not children. all those stupid parents should just make sure what games their children play so they dont use the gun

 I’ll probably hear backlash for this but as the old saying goes the truth hurts. I love how unintelligent people want to blame the source and not the cause. Meaning (for the slow parents out there) it’s not the toy but the dumb &$$ parenting of these kids. Most, if not all of this can be prevented if the “when I grow up I want to be a parent(s)” of these gun slinging kids would take time to actually listen “not the kind of listening that goes through one ear and out the other” to what their children have to say and what’s going on in their lives. This rarely done act is not a time to pass judgment on them but to just listen and ask how that makes them feel because that’s your first priority to provide Love and guidance. So instead of putting blame on toys, music or anything else you feel like pointing a finger at why don’t you put that mouth of yours into educating other parents on proper parenting and volunteer to help out kids in and around the schools and communities in your area. Clearly these whiners have enough time on there hands. I’ll stop commenting now since stupid people make me sick and I’m feeling nauseous…

Trust me, half to all of those parents really couldn't give a **** about whether or not this hurts they're kids. Just like Al, they only want something to fight about.

Well if the parents are worried about the gun just don't buy it and make sure it only stays with older teens and over.

seriously parents, if you're that concerned about it, then just don't buy it for your kids. It's as easy as that...

Sure, the Wii is family-oriented. But last time I checked, adults and teens make up families too. I highly doubt 30something year old daddy will want to play rayman all the time, and i really doubt 17 year old Jake will be happy with Wii Chess. The console is marketed to people of all ages and genres. So stop freaking out when a gun-like piece of plastic hits the market to fill that one niche for shooters.

I find it amazing how some parents will go ape shit over the fact that there's pornography, drugs, and games that portray violence available to buy. It wont be a problem if you dont buy em for your kids, or if you talk to them about how you feel about those. The word "Parent" means to raise and mentor your children. Providing for your family, paying the bills and making more kids is only one part of the job. If you don't instill solid morals for your children, they will have trouble in life.

lets see here... the nes blaster came out 22 years ago and nobody said anything and those parents prolly had a nes and prolly played duck hunt. everyone has played duck hunt at one time.then the snes blaster came out still no controversy. and now only because some redneck shows his kid and gives his kid a gun so he takes it to school and shoots some people, the Nintendo is now bad? hipocracy and pointing the finger from neglectful parents to the big companies once again(hmmp that kinda trailed off there) is the very foundation of our society and this is another example of it.

ZOMYGOD guess what, in just about any toy store, you can find plastic guns with pew pew sounds and whatnot, hell, even water pistols. I don't see what makes this so incredibly different that one is perfectly fine while the other should not be allowed to exist.

parents are stupid, and try to put blame on other things to try and hide the fact that they are the cause with their own stupidity, my parents included, their sons or daughters eventually try to rebel against something and they blame on the most popular things now days, a video game. or they have a younger kid and feed him so much god damned sugar he goes berserk and yet again the parent cannot blame themselves cause after all, they are the "innocent ones" and never did nothing wrong. if a parent don't like it than dont buy it for your ****ing kid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god damn mother****ing asshole idiots ****tard cocksuckers!

Hello:

This is interesting. Back in 1983 (1985 in USA), when Nintendo offers the Zapper and the gun games, no one complaint. Why now? That thing doesn't even look like a real gun.

Second, people already played Resident Evil and FarCry and Metroid Prime on Wii. The gun addon will make the game much comfortable to play with.

If parents really concern, teach your children what's real or not and what type of game should be owned and played. That would be enough.

Stupid parents!

Wii is for all audience.

Not just little kids. If there's a gun involed in the game, most likely it would be rated M. And its the parents responsibility if they do buy the game. If so it does happen that a child has become more violent because of the wii, it is still 100% the parents responsibility.

If you parents are too lazy to know what your children are playing, then you are just pieces of talking shit!

I don't see what's so wrong about having a wii gun it's the same as all the toy guns that have been out for over one hundred years, the only difference is your not actually aiming it at a real person.

"it's ok for my kid to have a bb gun which fires steel bb's at 1000 fps... but having the wii zapper is going too far... i mean, my son could have his eye out"

not in this lifetime, matey

how is this learning you how to aim and shoot? at least a guncon looks remotely like a gun yet they dont complain

These people who complain are stupid. Haven't kids been playing with Super Soakers and Nerf gun toys for years?

What next? Ban plastic cowboy guns? Capguns? water
pistols? Who ever made the post is a irresposible parent anyway. do they no understand how ratings work? and yes its a family console but why do you think everyone in the family has to play games made for 10 year olds?
There should be no problem with this product because all games that use it are for m15+ anyway, And if you do choose to buy it its as simple as not being a wingey pushover and dont let ur kid play it ya bloody wimps. :P

Ahh it is refreshing isn't it? i mean just when you thought people couldn't get any more ignorant. I think we should gather all the useless cows aka anyone that is totally ignorant and use an electric taser on them all until they finally answer the correct response to this "Am I or the gaming companies responsible for the child i sh!t out of my lazy fat ass?" the correct answer "I am" And if they answer otherwise, they get a nice jolt in the side haha. Who wants to set up a ranch for the cows?
