RIN already uses it for multiplayer.

and I can't wait until I can use it as a remote.

There already is a homebrew application designed, which utilises the IR for controlling Sony WEGA tv's and the Slim PS2

It doesn't do anything at all.

Sony have just put it on the PSP so that people start threads about it :)

Some people have already done interesting things (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=9768) with it.

I think it was mainly put there because it's easier to have present and think up a use later than to not have it and desire one later. Think of how consoles (pronounced 'nintendo') have all kinds of added ports that don't get used until years after the console is released.

the ir is for Multiplayer games with other psp's

IR is not necessary in any official PSP games that I'm aware of to play multiplayer.

I know this because I've played Burnout and Twisted Metal using the Wi-Fi, not IR. This isnt the GBC you know ;)

DraconumPB is right, IR has no official use, i dont know why sony included it, it can probably be used as a remote for the ps3
