Emukidid/tehpola (http://code.google.com/p/mupen64gc/wiki/Screenshots) have posted info on the port of the Nintendo 64 Emulator Mupen to the Gamecube/Wii:

Port of the popular multi-OS N64 emulator, Mupen64, to the Nintendo Gamecube through the libOGC library. The emulator is planned to use dynamic recompilation of the N64 machine code to PowerPC (the Gamecube's ISA) and full hardware accelerated graphics to (hopefully) achieve full-speed emulation.

Will this be a .dol file or will it run only via modding?

Very promising project. This is going to take A LOT of work to be as fully functional as say FCEUGC or SNES9xGX, but it is possible. Again though, this is quite a beast of a project to work on.

That's pretty bad, but at least they're trying.

Or maybe someone else has tried, and that's why we don't have one yet.

Well, from what i read on a different site, those statistics are based on running the emulator without a lot of necessary graphic plugins.
