Cool a neogeo CD emulator that actually supports CD's the way they would need too be in a memory stick format.

Incredible! This fixes nearly all the problems that were present in NeoCD/PSP. I wasn't able to get any sound or music from the game I tested (King of Fighters '94), but it ran at FULL SPEED, and with analog stick support. There's even an options screen, a feature sorely lacking in the previous Neo-Geo CD emulator. Now that's what I call awesome!

There's one nagging flaw with this emulator... you HAVE to name the parent folder NEOCDPSP, or else it's just not going to work. That means that if you're using ROM sorting tools that add spaces and a 1 on the end of the folder, well, don't use them.

Can it run an ISO file? I am trying to play Metal Slug, but it doesn't show up on the game selector menu. I have the files in a folder called Metal Slug, and my ISO is called Metal Slug - Track 1, and all of the mp3's are in a folder called neocd.mp3 and they are named Metal Slug - Track 2, Metal Slug - Track 3, etc.

Umm, I get an error message whenever I try starting a game that says it couldn't load "neocd.bin". I read the readme file, and it says there's a file by that name that goes in the neocdpsp folder, but the zip file i downloaded doesn't have a file by that name. What's happening?

ArugulaZ
July 7th, 2005, 07:51
You'll need to find neocd.bin from another source. You may have a BIOS file for a standard Neo-Geo system, which won't work. Also, make sure all the files are stored in the folder NEOCDPSP.

Also, no, it won't run an ISO file. You'll have to unzip it. You can put the files in a ZIP afterwards to conserve space on your memory stick, but the later games for the system will take forever to load if you do this. ZIP files work just fine with early Neo-Geo games, however, since they're so small and require only a couple of loads.

neogeo.bin is the bios file that the emulator needs in order to run. you'll have to google for it or something as, like other bioses (like psx), it's copyright infringement if you don't own the machine, etc.

Festizzio
July 7th, 2005, 08:04
Alright, now it's saying it can't open "ipl.txt". Is that another file like the bios?

Heh, wait till you try a game with full sound and music. :) It's unbelievable!

I started a bugs/compatability thread at emuboards PSP emulation section, but the damn server just died so we had to stop.

But from I recall, some games with full sound and music are: Metal Slug, Real Bout Special, Ninja Masters. A bunch work but either only have music or no sound or music at all.

ProphetZG
July 7th, 2005, 08:32
Just tested a few more... :)

1) Pulstar freakin works with music and sound! Even the damn FMV's play just lovely. This game is good enough to have been a commercial PSP title IMO.

2) Last Blade 2 also is 100% with music and sound! Easily one of THE best 2D fighters EVER made. Go play it on your freakin handheld! :P

3) Twinkle Star Sprites is 100%! Great shooter/puzzle game.

Breakers has some music, no sound, and froze midway thru a fight. :( Oh well.

Top Hunter: plays great but no music or sound

Blues Journey: sound, no music, serious graphics issues.

Street Hoop: music, no sound.

Windjammers: music, no sound, very buggy graphics.

ArugulaZ
July 7th, 2005, 08:47
King of Fighters '99 works with both sound and music, as does Twinkle Star Sprites. TSS is a little buggy... it brings up an error message before the second stage begins, but it usually continues to play afterwards.

Ninja Combat has sound effects but little music, and King of Fighters '94 doesn't have any sound at all! It doesn't matter, though... when you've got the awesome KOF '99 working almost perfectly, who needs the ancient first game?

JR

P.S. How 'bout the Samurai Shodown games? Do they work, and do they have full sound support?

ProphetZG
July 7th, 2005, 08:53
I tested Samsho 1 and 2 earlier, but I forget exactly my results and emuboards is down right now.

I think there was no sound or music. Plus some graphics issues (when zooming out).

Also have SS3 but haven't tried it yet.

I believe KoF96 was also 100% music and sound. Mag Lord has serious graphics issues when scrolling. Puzzle Bobble had no sound or music, but it's still better than the crappy Puzzle Bobble Pocket for PSP. ;)

I wish Sam Sho RPG was translated to English. :( Would be so good to have on PSP.

ArugulaZ
July 7th, 2005, 09:07
It's funny... neither of the Neo-Geo CD emulators for the PSP seem to like the early ADK titles very much. Ninja Combat, Ninja Commando, Magician Lord... I wonder what the common thread is between these games that keeps them from working properly with this emulator? I guess Alpha Denshi had a quirky way of designing the games that comes to the surface when they're being emulated.

Can someone explain the mp3 system to me? - I'm using Last Blade 2 as a test. I have unzipped the iso into a folder called "Last Blade 2 (U)". Am I understanding correctly that within that folder I should have a folder called "neocd.mp3" and within that I should put the mp3s? I can't seem to get it to read the music.

TIA!

"I renamed the folder with the game unzipped in XXXX.zip and it's work."
Thank you for the information.

But, I don't understand. Can you explain this further, perhaps with an actual game/rom name as an example? Also, a directory structure would be helpful, like PSP/GAME/NEOCDPSP/xxxx.game folder, that sort of thing.....

July 7th, 2005, 19:10
Ok! This is how I got around the ipl.txt issue.

If you have dled a game that is XXXX.rar or XXXX.zip uncompress it.

You should have Track 01.iso and a bunch of mp3's

I use winrar to uncompress the Track 01.iso to a folder

Then i select everything in the Track 01 folder and zip it up. It doesn't matter what the *.zip file name is.

I then put all mp3's in a folder called neocd.mp3

Put the Track 01 zip file and the neocd.mp3 folder in a new folder named whatever game it is.

This worked fine for me. I have all my games running with the track 01 zipped, except Last Blade and other fighting games. The loading time is rediculous.

Hope this helps!

If ISO's do not work, and ZIP files are slower, what should an uncompressed image be?

And thank you thank geise69, I got it working like that!

You can name your folder anything you want.

oops thought that was a question.

Yes you can name it anything you want just as the folder says XXXX.zip

However Last Blade was running really slow for me when I used the iso data in a zip file. When i unzipped it into a .zip folder it ran alot faster, but now the sound isn't working. No idea why.

If ISO's do not work, and ZIP files are slower, what should an uncompressed image be?

And thank you thank geise69, I got it working like that!

An uncompressed iso image should be a folder that says xxxx.zip in the folder name. That way the program will recognize it. If it just says xxxx it will just ignore it. BTW I'm glad I was able to help. This emu is great isn't it?

On a side note if anyone has played Pulstar or Viewpoint on this emu have you guys/gals have the same issue with the music stopping after you die?

wearebirds
July 7th, 2005, 21:37
So you unzip the ISO, and put the contents in a folder, and you can run it from the folder as a file?

I unzipped the ISO, and put everything in a folder and then zipped that, and ran it from the zip. My question was, What format can you run it in other than a zip file, because the zip files are slower.

WOOT! this is the best emulator till now. i mean wtf neogeocd emu better then snes emu!! rofl .
i tryed
king of figthers 98 : works wel not lagy sound also but no music.
Kabuki Klash - Far East of Eden works : wel no lag but no sound and no music.
Final Romance 2 : works good no lag with sound no music.

and better put the files in a subfolder instead of a .zip file it wil load faster that way.
and if you get a ipl.txt error that means the iso you got isnt good or incomplete try other 1s.

I suspect the reaosn music works for some and not for others may be one of two things:

1) Perhaps some people have zipped their games, and others didn't. So if you have no music, try doing the other and see if it helps.

2) Perhaps people have mp3's encoded at bitrates the emulator doesn't like?

This is a 1st release so there's bound to be bugs. But it's THE most incredible emu for the PSP so far. It proves beyond doubt that 16bit systems can be emulated at full speed with sound without frame skipping on PSP.

I have been getting the IPL.TXT error message and have checked the posts from before. I looked inside the .zip file and see that all the files are xxxxx.rom files and can't find any music file or the "track 1.iso". Does that mean I have to rip the ISO images off the games I own and then zip it again before I put it to the psp?

All the rom files runs fine on a neorage emulator on the computer.

ok this might be a no brainer but i didn't figure it out until now.for anyone still having problems, one thing that is not made clear is that what you have to extract is the actual ISO file!

i kept zipping it up and getting the txt error, you just have to extract the files that are INTO the ISO files in the game directory, and then put the mp3 folder in the same directory!

hope this helps,,enjoying metal slug 1-2 right now, this is cool!

I keep getting the can't load bin file. I extracted the League Bowling Iso and zipped up the contents. Then i took the mp3 file and put it in a folder. I then added the two files into a zip. Then when i try to play it, it says cant load the .bin file. I checked all the contents of the zip and i found no file with the .bin extension. Maybe i have a bad Iso or am extracting it wrong? Also cheked Kof99 and didn't see any .bin files.

OK. I have been watching this thread for the last two days and no one else seems to be able to put in plain English an "A" to "Z" step guide for this emulator.

Just like so many of you I fiddled with getting this emulator running and through trial and error know how it now works.

Below is a Kiddy Grade version of the steps you need to follow in order to run these games and/or music.
******* Before you start any of these steps, you MUST first aquire the "neocd.bin" bios file from the internet somewhare (since it is copyrighted it is illegal to own and is up to you to find without my help). This boots the emulator and without it you can't do any of the following**************

1. OBTAIN DATA FILES FROM NEO-CD GAME:
(a). this can be done easily if you own a neo-cd game or have a backup of one. (will cover ISO versions in a minute)

(b) put game in your cd drive, "right click" cd drive and choose to "explore" CD game.)

(c) You should see an assortment of file types with these extensions (.PRG, .SPR, etc.) These are the raw game files of the NEO-CD only.

(d) THIS STEP IS ONLY FOR THOSE WITH "ISO" IMAGES OF A NEO-CD GAME. (if you downloaded an image of a neo-cd game you will most likely have some music files and 1 iso image file. make sure that you have either "win-zip" or "winrar" so that you can unpack this ISO image file. "right click" ISO file and choose to "extract files" into a folder using either the "winrar" or "winzip" program. Once done this will give you a folder containing the same files you would get if you had an original Neo-cd and just copied the data files from it like in steps (a) - (c).

2. CREAT THE PROPER FOLDER STRUCTURE FOR FILES:
(a) Now that you have the Raw date files from the CD you need to put them in the proper folder layout.

(b) The emulator itself should have this folder stucture by default before you add any games or music files to it.
(E:\PSP\GAME\neocdpsp) The "E" just represents what drive my psp chose. Yours might be a different letter but the rest should be the same.

(c) Under the "neocdpsp" folder mentioned above you will want to creat a new folder describing what game it is you have the files for.
ex. (E:\PSP\GAME\neocdpsp\King of Fighters 99) It does not matter what folder name you give this, just make sure you can identify wich game folder is which.

(d) You will now want to move the files we aquired in steps (a) - (d) of part 1 of this explination into this fodler. For example I would move all these files into the "King of Fighters 99" folder if that was the game I got from either an original Neo-CD or extracted from the ISO image I found on the NET.

3. QUICK SUMMARY OF WHAT WE HAVE ESSENTIALLY DONE SO FAR.
(a) In real simple terms:
all the steps you have just followed up until this point basicly add up to you copying the Neo-CD game files themselves to a folder for this emulator to recognize. you could run this game now if you want but only the game will play. We have not moved any of the music over to the emulator, so you will basicly be playing a silent version of the game.

4. RUNNING MUSIC WITH THIS EMULATOR:
(a) this part is somewhat tricky as I have gotten mixed results depending on the method of doing it.

(b) I have only tried games with music that have been confirmed to work by other people on this sight so I don't waste time with incompatle games and or music.

(c) The only music I have been able to run successfully is music that I aquired with an ISO image that I downloaded from the internet. I have tried mp3 encoding the music from my original copy of the same game with no good results.

(d) I noticed that the ISO image version of the music is mp3 encoded at a rate of 326kb. No Cue sheet or other text file seems to be needed for the emulator to recognize which song to play when.

(e) sine my mp3 encoding software does not support a kb rate that high I don't have any means to test if this is the only kb rate this emulator supports. Your kind of on your own on this matter.

(f) as far as the folder structure for the music I can explain that to you. You will want to creat a folder called neocd.mp3 under the game folder it relates to. for example (E:\PSP\GAME\neocdpsp\King of Fighters 99\neocd.mp3) This folder belongs under the folder of the game the music is intended for. *** THIS IS A FOLDER CALLED "neocd.mp3" NOT A MUSIC FILE OR OTHER TYPE OF FILE, DON'T GET CONFUSED JUST BECAUSE IT HAS A .MP3 EXTENTION ON ITS NAME*****

(g) lastely, once you have compressed all the music files from a spacific Neo-cd game you will place all the mp3 files in the associated "neocd.mp3" folder for that game.

If all has gone correct, you will be playing your neo games real soon. I cannot guarrantee the music portion of this guide will work for you as I do not know where and how you have aquired the music files for SED game.

Best of luck to you! ^_^

This is a list of all Neo Geo CD games.

KOF series, Metal Slug, Last Blade etc. etc. are what the Neo Geo is all about.

beldandy561
July 8th, 2005, 19:52
Oh! I almost forgot.

Here are a couple of other pointers that will help.

1. once you aquire the "neocd.bin" bios file you will want to put it in the root folder of the emulator. for example E:\PSP\GAME\neocdpsp\King of Fighters 99\neocd.mp3 You would place it in the "neocdpsp" folder so the emulator can recognize it upon startup.

2. If you have downloaded a .zip file for a Neo-Geo game that contains .rom files and not .SPR and .PRG files you have downloaded the CARTRIDGE version of the game and not the CD version. These files will NOT run on this emulator!

3. If you are constently getting .txt and .bin errors I would recomend aquireing another copy of the "neocd.bin" file from a different website as the one you have downloaded may be somewhat deffective.

Good Luck!

samurai shodown 4 : working well, a little graphical issue with the background sky
twinkle star sprites : perfect

I am new here too, but have frequented many other forums with these same kinds of topics. They are considered very sticky topcis and could cause legal action to be taken against the webmasters for disbursement of information that would lead tot he aquiring of copyrighted content.

I would tread lightly in your quest to find these game images, as too many questions or requests could get you banned from this sight or get someone else banned for just wanting to help you and post illegal information or links.

90% of the homework has been done for you. I have been collecting roms for well over 12 years now and you learn from experience what is ok to ask for and what is not.

When doing these google or yahoo searches you also start to learn other ways of asking the same question and you may find that it brings about a different search result.

Mix and match terms, sometimes trying to locate a single title is easier than locating a library of them. Even if you only find a couple images, through those pages there may be links to other pages they got their images from. Think of it as a brain teaser treasure hunt.

Ok here is how i finally got the sound and music to work on two of three games. Instead of zipping the Iso's files, i just left it like that uncompressed. Psp/Games/Neocdpsp/metal slug 2.... In the Metal slug 2 folder there should be the files from the Iso AND neocd.mp3 folder... Thats how i got the sound and music to work.... The game that didn't work is Samurai showdown.. but I had an idea why.. I had changed the names of the files earlier so maybe it doesn't play it... because it can't find it now...

The bad news? the game plays alittle slow now with sound and the files are much much larger...
The good news? I save a lot of money on car insurence and you can hear the game's music and sound effects..

Hello all, I have read this thread over and over but I still can't get it to work.
I did everything (I think) that you guys said to get it to work. I can get the emu to load up and see the metal gear folder but thats about it. I do not see anything else.

I have it as psp/game/neocdpsp/metal slug....now I know you need to make a folder called neocd.mp3 Now do I zip up all the mp3's and the ISO together and put it into the neocd.mp3 folder? or just have the mp3's ziped and the iso loose? Or does the iso go into a diffrent folder all together.

The iso I have is called Metal Slug - track 01 it is 25megs. Thanks for anyhelp you guys can give, with your help I know I can get this thing working.

edsel, inside the psp/game/neocdpsp/metalslug folder, you'll need another folder called "neocd.mp3". All the mp3 tracks for the game go inside there. With the ISO (track 1 file), you need to extract all the files inside it first. Use a program like Isobuster or UltraIso to do this. Extract all the files inside the ISO into the psp/game/neocdpsp/metalslug folder.

That's it.
If you want to save space on your ms duo, you can zip all the files you just extracted from the ISO into one archive (called mslug.zip or whatever), otherwise just leave them all there uncompressed.

READ THIS

OK, you download a file, and you get an ISO and MP3's

The ISO is usually named track 1, for instance Metal Slug - Track 1.ISO and the MP3's start with track 2.

Take all of the MP3's and put them in a folder called neocd.mp3

Then take your ISO and unzip it. It will be a folder with a bunch of other files in it. Name this folder metalslug.zip(or whatever the game is called)

Take your neocd.mp3 folder and put it inside the .zip folder that you just created(note: it is not an actual zipped folder, just a folder named game.zip).

Then put the metalslug.zip folder inside of the neocdpsp folder.

You then will run the .zip folder as a file from the file selction menu in the emulator.

(you still need the neocd.bin file to go in the neocdpsp folder)

TADA! I really hope this helps you guys, since you seem to be having a lot of trouble.

I guess that works for you all, but for most of my games i sacrifiice space for sounds and music.. I didn't put the files in the Iso into a folder... i just left it in the game folder with toghther with the neocd.mp3 folder... ^_^ its my way of getting most of the games to work perfectly...

Yes! Down sample your MP3's = lotsa saved space.

Many of the ISO+MP3 sets floating around have very high quality MP3's, i.e. 300kbps or more. You don't need that high a bitrate to sound good, in fact I find 80kbps to be acceptable, and 128kbps sounds great. So down sample your mp3's for the PSP, but I'd recommend saving the high quality ones on your PC.

I find that resampling your mp3's at lower bit rates can save 25% - 50% of the space a game might take up. You'll need some software to do it, something like MP3 Workshop (I have an old version I use).

If anyone knows a good FREE MP3 editing/reampling program, please give a link here. Thanks.

Don't pay extortion money to "ROM sites" - it's one thing for people to share copyrighted stuff for free, there are ethical arguments to be made for that practice, but IMO selling ROMs is disgusting and is true piracy. The entire emulation hobby exists because of people sharing info and data, so you should never support those vermin.

My apologies to DCemu if I wasn't supposed to mention the newsgroups here(?), but I really don't want to see people supporting those horrible "pay us for roms" sites. Delete this post if it incringes on this sites policies, I will completely understand.

eh??? can you put this in more simple terms, i can't figure out all this crap, i downloaded a metal slug rom, but it was in 3 parts, so i name a folder metal slug, and attempt to place the files from metal slugpart1 .rar to it, bt when i try to put the files in metal slug part2.rar in it, it tells me "this folder already contians a file named...." and gos through ALL of the files.... so how the hell to i make the 3 diffferent parts into one???? and where exactly do i put the sound in the psp memstick??????

edit- i got the neocd.bin thsts 512kb, and put it in the neocd folder in psp/game.... and put the part1 metal slug.rar into a folder named Metal Slug, and put the Metal Slug folder into the neocd.zip.... i turn on my psp and go to NEO GEO CD in my games, memstick thing, and press X and it gos to the neo geo loading screen thing, and then the screen gos black and i go back to the psp menu.... with no error messages or anything..... is it really SO hard to get metal slug on my psp.... i've been trying ever since the 1.5 got hacked.....

edit- i downloaded i different neo geo cd emulator for the psp, and followed its instructions, a made a folder within the neo geo cd folder in game, called Metal SLug, and then made a zip called mslug, and put the iso file inside of it... i then made a folder called neocd.mp3 in the Metal SLug folder, and put all of the mp3 files into it.... then i started it up, i browsed to the mslug.zip, pressed O, and then it said "fatak Errir: could not load NEOCD.BIN#... i have the 512kb NEOCD.bin in the folder it told me to put it into......

edit- ok it turns out the NEOCD.bin was in the wrong folder.... so i got it in the right one now, NOW when i start it up, it says something about an error compressing ipl.txt or something

edit- alright, ive been playing metal slug for about a half hour now...im playing right now... ive beeen aweaiting weeks for this..... i will probably be playing all day.... i cant peel my self away... i finally figured out to unzip all the files from the iso to a zipped folder called Mslug, sadly, i have 300mb free on my memstick, now i have 112mb free... but im too busy playing metal slug..... ill erase some stuff later..... music works fine, it is pretty easy to put the games on once you now to unzip the ISO files.....

Only a few do.

Neo Turf Masters works awesome.

King of Fighters 99 works great. Samurai Shodown 4 does too(a few glitches)

well, technically it isnt illegal to download roms and such for emulators if u own the system and game u r trying to emulate, even though i doubt everyone here owns a sega cd, but neone can really prove u dont^^
i would personally disagree with it being illegal if the system/games isnt even around anymore to buy

Aside from the odd bug (like the one mentioned on Last Blade 2), this seems to be pretty spot on. The King of Fighters games work beautifully. So, after the compatibility goes up and the bugs are ironed out, is the next step to emulate the non-cd NeoGeo? I know they are different systems and the cd version is simpler but are the systems completely different or very similar? Just wondering how much of a jump that will be.

no, it doesn't matter. at all. you have to make a copy of YOUR OWN disc in order for it to even be pseudo legal. Even then it is illegal to use the copy unless the original has been damaged, or you do not have means to use the original etc.

also, on your little rant about being an american, if you are under 18 you aren't a citizen so it doesn't matter, and if you're 18 or over, then it's 100% on you to make change if you want it, NOT to just complain. I know they are different systems and the cd version is simpler but are the systems completely different or very similar? Just wondering how much of a jump that will be.

Actually the NeoCD and Neo AES/MVS are basically the same thing internally. The CD system is not at all "simpler." They all use the exact same engine (68000 @ 12Mhz, with the same graphics and sound chips onboard). The NeoCD is basically a NeoGeo with a CD-ROM interface and a 7MB RAM buffer. So once you've emulated the NeoCD, it's not a far jump at all to emulate the NeoGeo cart systems. If the NeoCD had been equipped with a cart slot, it could've played both carts and CD's (if only they'd done that!).

In fact the AES/MVS would arguably have been simpler (no CD interface code needed) and faster (CD requires MP3 decoding simultaneous with emulating the Neo hardware) to emulate on PSP. So why emulate CD instead of cart first? The answer is RAM.

The cart based NeoGeo systems used ROM carts, which means they expect dynamic access to the entire ROM. The PSP only has 32MB RAM (still a ton for a handheld though) which is too small to hold most cart based NeoGeo games. So right there you have a big problem. It can potentially be solved by implementing some sort of dynamic caching code, but you would still probably have some annoying wait times and/or slowdowns since all the data still woudn't truly be dynamically available in RAM.

The CD games, on the other hand, were reworked version of the cart games - designed to load in chunks inside the NeoCD's 7MB RAM. So to emulate the NeoCD, the PSP's 32MB is more than enough.

quzar
July 14th, 2005, 03:49
There are three things in reference to the Neo Geo CD being simpler:

1) The graphics hardware it uses is not exactly the same
2) The emulator for it is MUCH simpler than any existing MVS emulator because it does not include raster emulation, which is relatively complex and requires a lot of additional processor time. The reason for this is that relatively there are very few CD games that use raster effects.
3) The emulator can be run without sound effects to a much nicer end result than most since (if used legitimately) it can stream CD audio loslessly.

All in all NeoCD is much more portable than any MVS emulator.

ProphetZG
July 14th, 2005, 05:02
1) The graphics hardware it uses is not exactly the same

Incorrect. It is the same.

http://www.egameaddiction.com/neogeocd/original/neocdspecs.html
http://www.egameaddiction.com/neogeocd/reviews/faq/neogeocdfaq.html

The reason for this is that relatively there are very few CD games that use raster effects.

Incorrect. The NeoCD versions of games had the same raster effects as the AES/MVS versions. The emu doesn't have them because the author never bothered adding them. The only differences in graphics tended to be cut animation on some later games, simply because the 7MB RAM wasn't enough to hold all the frames from the cart versions.

The primary difference, as I pointed out before, is the NeoCD replaces the cart slot with a CD interface and 7MB of RAM to buffer data and program as needed. It is otherwise the same overall hardware. Which was the entire point of its existence in the first place - to offer the real NeoGeo experience using a much less expensive medium (CD vs. ROM cart). Load times and ever expanding game sizes sadly made the NeoCD a less than perfect replacement for the AES/MVS.

quzar
July 14th, 2005, 08:34
Even for the AES/MVS only around 50 or so games use raster effects (and for the CD system there are only around a total of 100 or so games of which around 10 use raster effects). ask anyone who can read a mame driver. raster effects are only emulated in those that require them, and the rest do not require raster effects and they are not emulated. Trust me, I have spent hours upon hours in the guts of emulators, I know what I'm talking about.

The graphics hardware is mostly the same but is not an identical chip. Read technical documents as opposed to loose 'specs' pages. The CD version had different possible resolutions for sprites because of the fact that it was only possible to access a max of 7mb at a time (and realistically less, since a certain amount had to be used for actual game data)

I think I can actually understand what you're trying to say. Wow.

Anyway, just posting a few more compatibility checks for the following games:

Samurai Spirits RPG: loads the start screen,
then blacks out after selecting the Start Game option.
Can anyone else confirm that SSRPG doesn't work?

Art of Fighting 3(or Gaiden): plays well, music and sound are all okay.
However, on certain stages there are some background problems.
Still, very playable.

Crossed Swords 2: plays well, music and sound.
Like AOF3, there are background problems with the background
sometimes covering over the parts of the screen at times.
However, because it's necessary to see the whole screen to be able
to guard attacks, etc., I find it a little less playable than AOF3.

Magical Drop 2: sound and music during start screen,
but no sound or music during actual play.
Plays very though, went up to around 80fps when I didn't limit it.

man there is more game title for tha vms then tha cd im i right or wrong because i go to this web site and tha neogeo cd really dont have that much game dame it ......

correct me if i'm wrong: "Man, there are more game titles for the MVS than the CD. Am I right or wrong, because when I go to this web site, the NeoGeo CD really doesn't have that many games damn it.... "

The MVS has maybe around 300 titles ( games come out for it still) and the CD system only has 104(?) total games (if not 104 exactly somewhere between 95 and 120). There were less than 5 games exclusive to the CD system, but an important one was Samurai Spirits RPG.

ok, so how can i save my games using this emulator for the psp?

wait for more than 10 minutes for someone to come who knows your answer. I know for a fact that in the original emulator saving was automatic, and if it was implemented at all in the psp version, it would also be automatic. The only drawback is that you need to format the memory card first (the neo geo cd virtual memory card) this can be done from most games. Again, this is only if saving works at all.

Saving does not work. I formatted the card, saved a game of Metal Slug, exited (using the option in the main menu) and found the save data in the memory card manager. When I reset my PSP, the save data was gone.

super sidekicks 4 : no sound, no sfx, and graphical issues

The Super Sidekicks games are the ones I was most looking forward to as well.

Can you tell me what the deal is with Super Sidekicks 4 though? Some sites list it as a NEOCD game, others only go up to number 3...?

Saving doesn't work for me either. At least it doesn't in Metal Slug 2.

Great emulator. One of the best. Look forward to future versions.

never. the mvs cart is somewhere in the neighborhood of 80mb, a giant compared to MS 1 and 2.

But Super Sidekicks 3 still doesn't work. :(

quzar

doesn't matter. Super Sidekicks 3 doesn't play right on the original emulator and is to a point not playable. The bug is that the field is not displayed properly, and instead of the field there are just two sets of the audience.

as for saving, i think if there is actually a file being saved in order to get it to work, certain games require you to load it (this is what we get for having no real bios emulation).

Hi at all,

first of all Sorry for my bad english.

I have problems to run the NeoGeoCD-Emu on my PSP V1.50. I've read all this Thread but this Emu doesn't run.

I have 2 Folders in PSP/GAME called "neocd" and "neocd%" cause i have the Version 1.50. In the Folder PSP/Game i have also put a folder wich named "neocdpsp". In this Folder there is another Folder called "Metal Slug". Also i have put the "NEOCD.BIN" there. In the "Metal Slug" folder i put the mslug.zip and the "neocd.mp3" folder. When i start the Emu, there comes following error "Fatal error: Could not load NEOCD.BIN".

Can someone help me. I've tried everything but i don't know where the mistake is.

Thank you.

there is saving (in the emulator, maybe not this port of it...). the memory card thing is in japanese because the emulator is hardwired for japanese. You have to go to the memory card manager to do it.

RedKing14CA

quzar
July 22nd, 2005, 08:26
yea that's what i said, it's exactly that, but the problem is that the emulator doesn't yet have region switching, so it's stuck in japanese.

Well, there's your problem. You've been searching the internet. Try the Yellow Pages first. There's at least six game stores in my neighborhood that sell Neo Geo CD's, so I'll bet that you've got a few as well. If, by some odd chance you don't, there are deffinately more than a few mail order companies that do sell them. Go buy some CD's and then make the roms yourself. It's a cinch. That'll solve all your problems.
