Via Dark_AleX (http://www.dark-alex.org/).

An update from the legendary Dark_AleX for his custom firmware, 3.71 M33, named 3.71 M33-2, was just recently released on DAX' website, and so was an update for the 1.50 kernel addon, which allows for 1.50 homebrew to be used on 3.71 M33 (only for PSP fat). They contain a number of fixes listed here:

3.71 M33-2 changelog:

- There was a bug that caused corruption when writing files of more than 32256 bytes using usb flash.
The bug has been corrected, and now the implementation is as reliable as it was when it was based on 1.50 kernel.
(tested with a full restauration of a dump)

- Psp Slim: a functionality to let the charge of battery when connecting a usb cable has been added.
This feature is based on Noobz plugin code.
By default is not enabled, you can enable it in recovery.
Note that the charge of battery may be delayed some seconds since the moment you plug the cable.

- After installing this update, program at /PSP/GAME/UPDATE will always be executed on 3.71 kernel, despite configuration.

- VSHMenu: vshmenu will not be executed when onscreen keyboard is active, to avoid the lost of
the select button function in the keyboard.
An option to reset the psp has been added.

Note about twi bugs remaining:

The WLAN network error, and the PSP Slim psx game change of brightness.
These two bugs are copyright of Sony :) happens too in OFW.

The WLAN network happens when there is no network available, so not a big problem.

1.50 kernel addon v2 changelog:

- When returning from sleep mode, 3.71 ipl was executed causing an inmediate crash. Fixed.
- vsh plugins were being executed on recovery too Fixed

It is important that you read the full readme for installation instructions!

Could you perhaps use come punctuation? It will make your comments much easier for others to read. Assuming you make your comments because you want them to be read, of course.

By that last little bit, is he trying to say more XMB (vsh) plugins will work in this release based on 3.71 M33-1?

By that last little bit, is he trying to say more XMB (vsh) plugins will work in this release based on 3.71 M33-1?

No. He's saying that previously VSH plugins were being loaded even in recovery mode. In this version that does not happen.

question...for PSP phat users like me...do i update the 1.50 kernal revision 2 first? or the 3.71 M33-2 update first?

Got it DarthPaul...thanks..!

@specialist83: If you already has 3.71M33-1 installed, you can update to any of them first.

I installed and tested some things
1)1.50 Homebrew - Nice, if you go to sleep mode it doesnīt crashes
2)3.XX Homebrew - Nice
3)PTF Themes - Nice
4)480x272 video - Nice
5)UMD & backups - Nice
6)Recovery Menu - Nice
7)Network (Browser, PSP Tube) Nice

Itīs stable like 3.40 OE and with more features. A true DA firmware.

DarthPaul
October 3rd, 2007, 06:22
^ Saracchini which version of PSPTube did you test?

Because the latest version is not working correctly for me. It boots, shows me a loading screen, and then the PSP turns off.

I can 't seem to update to 3.71 at all.
i'm at 3.52-4 M33 but the psp won't read UMD discs somehow but plays backup ISOs,if I run the UPDATE it checks the files to be ok, then goes back to the XMB and says that the UPDATE is not ment for my current firmware.( oh and VIDEO ISOs won't work neither)
Tried keycleaner everything seems ok.
Can someone help?

They were all true DAX firmwares... The whole way along I had the same feelings and experiences with M33 as with OE, I just seemed to update more often lol. But yeah I have never understood why people bashed all the M33 FWs I took the chance when it started and was happy all the way through. Thanks again DAX, but yes I too will stay on 3.52 M33 until its necessary for me to update.
3x3, I am guessing you bought your PSP already with custom firmware on it... You need to do some research on all this stuff, but let me tell you the basics. Your PSP is on custom firmware obviously, your post sounds like your trying to update to 3.71 via a UMD, well you can't. You are trying to go off custom firmware and onto official SONY Firmware. You can't since your psp is on custom firmware it has locked the updates to regular SONY crappy firmware, there are ways you can get onto the SONY 3.71 but , this is a BAD choice, you won't be able to backup, run backups, use recovery to fix your psp, or use homebrew. Research all this custom firmware stuff if you need to update, and learn how to make the custom firmware updates via the tools provided in the downloads, it is not hard, but you need to be at least mildly technical. As for your unit not running UMDs we maybe can fix that now. Hold the R trigger while turning on power on your psp. You will go into recovery mode (part of your CUSTOM firmware) in there I believe under advanced configuration is UMD mode, switch it to UMD only or UMD inserted or whatever, and if necessary reset default settings. Good luck, theres a lot to learn but its worth it

Yay, I updated my psp with no problems. One tip though for those who have not updation the 1.50 kernel add-on, put the 150.pbp eboot to the root of the psp, not on the game150 folder.. Now, checking on the bugs.. ( i hope there's none..)

Maybe you're not getting any answers because you're asking in a completely irrelevent thread? Go and ask in the help forum, or read one of news posts about the official theme creator. Or, even go and ask at whatever EvolveXMB has become now (I forget). You know, where the theming experts hang out?

I just updated last night from 3.40OE to this one.
What are the new features, i heard something about the home menu different or some new menus or something, what are the new firmware features that are inherited from the sony firmware.
Also, do regular PSP can download the official sony themes and apply them? What's that about POPS not working? PSX games not loading anymore? compatibility down?

Press SELECT and you'll see what that's about.

[quote]

Official theme support, seeking in videos or somesuch.

Compatibility changes. Some work better, some worse. The Popsloader plugin to load other firmware's versions of pops is no longer compatible.

Re: themes, download them from Sony's site and transfer them to your memory stick under PSP/THEME.

DarthPaul

what are the new firmware features that are inherited from the sony firmware.
The new features from Sony are:

- You can now set custom themes in [Theme Settings] under [Settings].
- Support has been added for assigning buttons in [Remote Play].
- A scene search feature has been added under [Video].
- Sequential playback is now supported under [Video].
- Simultaneous playback of content under [Music] and [Photo] is now supported.

Also, do regular PSP can download the official sony themes and apply them?
Yes.

What's that about POPS not working? PSX games not loading anymore? compatibility down?
The POPS work, it's just that the POPSLoader prx to load POPS from other firmwares[like 3.30] doesn't work anymore. But I heard that the compatibility is better and there's no need for the POPsLoader, but I'm not sure.

Sonicboy 101
October 3rd, 2007, 17:13
The POPS jap code fix doesn't work anymore, so many games aren't gonna be working that relied on it.
Hence I say its gone down... but maybe some have gotten better?

Thanks for the info.
The select menu is interesting, it could be built to be a good configuration menu for plugins and such. I've been toying with the idea of buying a slim but right now i don't see much difference in terms of what new things it brings to the table.

Another update thats not mentioned,

In M33 3.71 (1) when you changed the kernel to 3.71, at the bottom it states it has been changed to 3.52. In M33 3.71 (2) it now says 3.71 when 3.71 kernel is changed

Okay, to cut down the amount of questions on the POPS not working, could someone please suggest which program to use to convert PS1 ISOs into Eboot files, and which program you'd use to convert Eboot files you already have into a compatable one with this new CFW. Also, do Savedata from 3.40 OE POPS work on this? if not, which program would you use to convert those if they can be converted. Hopefully, these questions will lead to some usable answers, and cut down the number of "what's this about POPS not working?" questions (not complaining about that one, but don't want to see 50 more of the same question later on). Thank you.

PSX2PSP Popstation GUI 1.2 is what I use. Couldn't be easier. Just browse to the ISO or eboot file and add whatever artwork you like or none at all, and it converts it.

I don't think you can convert eboots to be compatible with certain popstations, in fact, I'm sure you can't unless there's someone out there who makes patches or something to make them work with certain firmware.

As for save data, I don't use it but my guess is yes.

I'm still on M33-4 but will upgrade shortly. I'm hoping a plugin or workaround of some kind will let us load different pops with the newer firmware.

I wanted to report back that I finally fixed this PSP

This is what I found.

1. I tried using a "clean_part_fatpsp.image" NAND file to fix partition errors that might be causing the problem.
As it turned out this didnt fix the problem because this was not the problem to begin with.
I am still very gratefull for being given the file as a tool to help trouble shoot the problem.

2. The problem was that I had a corrupted Cemetary2 memory stick.

I rebuilt the Cemetary2 memory stick from scratch instead of converting an original Pandora memory stick.

I then flashed one of my first 3.52M33 NAND backups with the original NAND partitions.
Then I installed 3.71M33 using the newly created Cemetary2 memory stick.

Now everything works just as it should.
(3.71M33-2 Yea!)

I never suspected the firmware.
I have always though it is was a problem with the PSP or the process.

Anyone having problems with Cemetary2 not being able to:

1. format flash0 using Cemetary2 to install 3.71M33
2. format flash1 using Cemetary2 to install 3.71M33
3. get a white screen and power off brick using Cemetary2 install 3.71M33

Should first try recreating Cemetary2 stick from scratch instead of converting an existing Pandora memory stick.
Then try fixing the NAND partitions.

Please note that I had this problem before I started using Cemetary2 to try and upgrade to 3.71M33.
The only way I could get 3.71M33 on this PSP successfully was by using Cemetary2

Thanks for not flaming.

It seems like if you try restore your PSP from standby after a while (in 1.5 apps) it will crash and then you'll have to start the app over. If I turn it on right after I turn it off it works though.

I've had some strangeness with 3.71 m33:
After one or two network connections or scans my psp returns an internal error 00000001 and can no longer scan?!

It'll still hook up with an existing connection though.
If anybody knows anything about this let me know.Haven't beeen on the net much lately 'cause of work, please forgive if this has already been addressed :)

I have original 3.71 M33 and I want to install this update. But I also need 150 Kernel Add-on. I download this and when I unpack with WinRAR it says:

"150kernel_addon2.rar - CRC error in UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP. The file is corrupted"

Please upload again :( I want to update my PSP today!

OK I upgraded my PSP 3.71 M33 to 3.71 M33-2

But now I have to get back to original 3.71 M33

So I can downgrade firmware to 1.50 and then upgrade to 3.03 OE-B

(Reason: 1.5 homebrew doesn't work on 3.71 M33, on M33-2 either, but I saw it work on 3.03 OE-B.)

How to do I restore back?

Ooops! I deleted the upgrade from my Memory Stick but I still have it on my PC hard drive. Please help me quick!

3.71 M33-4 (http://dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=81722&highlight=m33-4) is the newest revision. Install that together with the 1.50 kernel addon v2 in this thread, and you'll get the newest version with 1.50 homebrew compatibility (if your PSP is fat).

I installed 3.71 M33-4

But when I install 1.50 kernel addon v2
(I didn't install 1.50 kernel original before)

I press X and it says
Incorrect or inexistant 150.PBP at root.

And then it turns off.

Please help me fast!

Download the 1.50 firmware update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4), unpack it to the top level of your memory stick, the root, where the PSP folder is, and rename it to 150.PBP, then start the kernel addon program.
