While they’re available in Japan and elsewhere, Sony has decided not to offer S-video cables for its new PSP Slim handheld in North America. Why not? A company representative told us that they wanted to streamline their selection, giving owners a choice between cables supporting composite, “the de facto standard,” and component inputs, which are now available on the majority of new televisions. Those S-video lovers among you all will have to take a stand. Either way, it’ll set you back $19.99—for once, picking the deluxe option won’t cost more. Unlike the first version of the PSP, the revised PSP Slim is capable of outputting video signals to compatible televisions, letting users watch media on larger displays. The PSP Slim can output game video on televisions, too, but only through the component cable. (The system’s output is in a progressive-scan mode, which other cables don’t support.) Additionally, the PSP Slim is less bulky and lighter than the original and is more battery efficient.

Well I agree with WTF about the chotto not being released in the u.s., but it doesn't realy matter with the svideo cables, since you can't watch gameplay through the svideo psp cables on your tv

I don't see the need or the point in utilizing S-Video for TV-Out using the Slim. Component is what you want. If you don't have an HDTV yet, I'd highly recommend getting one. I know they are not cheap, but worth every penny if you shop smart.

People will prefer component when it comes to the PSP TV-Out. I know this and SONY knows this.

I speak from a huge audiophile and videophile mindset though so I always want to get the most out of my electronics.

Honestly though, I'll probably never even use my PSP Slim & Lite on a TV. That is just silly to me.

I would much prefer an s-video lead as my plasma tv isnt a hd one. We havent all got the money to go out and waste on hdtvs!

For me the only reason to buy the slim and lite would be to hook it up on a big screen, apart from that it seems a pretty pointless updgrade. Extra ram and a slight reduction in size/weight is no selling point to me when i have a phat that can do everything I want and more.

Each to their own though.
