This is a weekly sig competition. Not a normal one though. Each week I will give you a stock image that you have to work with. There are no ristrictions except for the fact that the sig must contain the provided stock image.

The competition will not be held if there are less than 4 entries. Winner will be decided by a poll.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to everyone who entered our first compo

This is our second time around. Lets hope we get more entries this week. Here is what you will be working with:

This render is just so beautifully done.

Get busy!

First in ages, don't have a chance of a vote. But its the taking part that counts, huh?

illegal size i know, but its not being used as my sig.

I didnt like the render but still, i hope there is a better one next week.

EDIT - This is a legal sized one, but i dont think its quite as effective. Enter which one you choose.

I hate that pic.... I'm no longer participating, by the way. And if anyone says, ''Oh, it's just becasue you didn't do good on the last one'' Shut the heck up. It's not. It's because these pictures are a bunch of crap.

Shrygue
November 9th, 2007, 22:44
That is a good good signature you came up with but even the smaller one is 211KB - 136KB over the limit.

...and watch your mouth, Shelly. There no need to be so rude about it.

Triv1um
November 9th, 2007, 22:46
Dang, i forgot to look at size. i really don't know how reduce this.

I will look into it.

Shrygue
November 9th, 2007, 22:51
Well, you could try saving it in JPEG format, although that tends to decrease the quality of the image. Of course, there may be other ways reduce the file size without affecting the quality but I won't know as I can't make sigs.

Oh, please. Don't you think that picture is a bit inapropriate? That's the annoying thing. I'd appreciate it if you didn't post such pictures. Wario was ok, but like I said, this picture is a bunch of... Garbage.

That modified meets the rules at a loss on quality. Just remember though that if you aren't going to use it in your signature here at DCEmu, just stick with the one that's best to you for the competition.

Anyone please

Save the high-res render as a png to your desktop.

Then open the render in photoshop, and the black will be gone.

You cant just drag it over if you want it to be a clean render.

billionhits

What I mean is i need to sort of cut out the image.

When I do what you said the black is still there

The only way I can think of doing it is by using the rubber

ganondorf
November 10th, 2007, 14:57
Just open it in Photoshop mate. Black will be gone.

And Shelly, I really hate your atitude. No one cares if you think its garbage. Thats the stupidest thing, to blame it on the renders. Triv1um thinks they are garbage, but he does not complain about them. Its either you have an entry, or you dont. I respect those who try their best and dont give up.

Ahh, your problem was that you were using the low resolution image.

If you dont know how to scale down the image, grab your MOVE TOOL and click SHOW TRANSFORM CONTROLS (located below window and help.)

Hope this helps, feel free to pm me back for any other questions.

I have to admit I didn't think too much of the supplied image to begin with but that's half the challenge - to do something different or interesting with it.

Shelly, you're welcome to your opinion but it seemed a little OTT. What is it you dislike so much about the image? Just have a bit of fun with it, turn it into something you do approve of.

Anyway, here's my attempt.

for best quality and low filesize you should all use .png

being the great photshoppers that all of you are ;) i thought you knew that :p

P.S. yeah and i agree with shelly, thats not something i would do either probably because the female is half naked and is in 3d

due to some moral issues and to show that im not perverted, thats probably why im not doing it (BTW this is not to insult people who are using it! its from MY perspective ok?)

Fair play about your reason for not using this image, you made the point clearer.

I have to admit I find it strange that you think it 'perverted' to use the image. After all, you don't need not show any of the flesh in whatever you do with the image and could focus on making a sig with the other elements present rather than the girl.

Personally I don't feel bad using it. We did loads of naked life drawing at college and the naked body is a really fascinating thing to try and draw/replicate on paper. I guess I find it weird how people could possibly be offended by what we are.

I think it's the constant sexualisation of the body in the media that's the problem and I guess I can understand how you might think the image contributes to that.

Out of interest, would you be offended if the image was of a topless male Barbarian for instance?

Please don't think I'm having a pop at you. I respect your opinion and I'm sure we could start a very big and long debate on this topic alone :D. I'd find it very interesting I think.

As for the use of png files, I personally find jpegs better as a little compression will yield smaller file sizes without compromising the quality of the image. As soon as you increase the number of colours in the png file palette to avoid the dotting, the file size ends up much higher than the jpeg.

Well that's my tuppence worth anyway.

No probs.

Hopefully the next contest image will be less controversial.

November 11th, 2007, 02:20
Ok folks, times running out. We need more entrants, I will have mine shorly.

Edit*

Wow guys, I didnt know that the renders I pick are too hard or controversial for you. New renders and differnt types of renders are the challenge and should be fun. Like beetroot bertie said, if you dont like the render, change it so that you do like it. The only sport ive seen since the first compo is Beetroot and buddy, without any questions or anything, they have made a sig.

I actually think that this was one of the best renders ive used and one of the easiest. The talent is to blame, not the render.

Here is my entry:

Like you said "talent is to blame" that was my problem, im not at the standard to work with that sort of render.

Sigh, again, I'm just saying. Besides, I only came here to see if I could turn it into anything. But since I can't oh, well. But I do appreciate it how you cut off some of it. Not like you had a choice. But still, think you can use a better picture? Sorry about my attitude, just was in a bad mood. :(
Ganondorf, your's is awesome! I don't know who to vote for now. I'm gonna have to go throught the whole board and see which one is best.

But thanks, im glad you guys like my sig.

I just have regular paint. I have Windows XP.
Photoshop, eh? Do you have to buy that or something? I've heard of it.
I also know that Kodak Easyshare has a few special effects you could do. Luckily, I have that. I'm gonna try it out.
Edit:
Alright. I didn't use Photoshop for this, I used Kodak EasyShare and a little bit of paint. I'm a begginner, as you can see. This is my first acual entry...

Sorry if it's a little long. I'm not going to use it as a sig anyway. Feel free to criticize it. If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. And yes, I know I didn't do much. Well, I couldn't. :(

Great first attempt, although I have to admit I don't the font colour.

Photoshop is a full professional image editing application. It's excellent, but for a home user, expensive.

There's a few free alternatives out there. Adobe did do a stripped down photoshop called Photoshop elements but I'm unsure if that's still available. There's some free alternatives listed at this site:

http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/mmedia/FreePhotoshopAlternatives.html

Hope they help.
