SofiyaCat has today popped up with a test release of the Sega Saturn emulator Yabause for the PSP. this emulator has been ported to Dreamcast by DCemu UKs very own BlueCrab so its nice and very interesting to see it ported to PSP.

Be under no illusion that this is basically a tech demo but how cool :)

You will need a saturn bios too

Sega Saturn for the PSP was one of the very first things I asked for when I first joined here :) which at the time it was in the rules not to ask for a Saturn emulator on the PSP, and now there's a tech demo :D

Wow, that's fantastic. It's extremely slow, as you'd expect, and there's no sound, but at least it runs. =D This has great potential.

You will never be able to run a PSP app on DS.

Where's the source for the PSP version? There are so many ports of Yabause, I should really do a Xbox port. :)

Last time I checked, the source to the PSP version is on the website with the PSP version.

Also, there's hardly any chance of anyone bothering to port Yabause to the DS for the simple fact that there's absolutely no way it could ever be full-speed (it only runs ~7 FPS tops on the Dreamcast, which is more powerful than the DS)

Finally, feel free to port it to the Xbox. I think I can speak for the Yabause team at large when I say that we'd be happy to have another port as long as you can keep up with the release schedule :p as long as your port is legal (i.e, it uses OpenXDK).

Saturn has:

1MB SDRAM
1MB DRAM
1.5MB VRAM
4KB color RAM
512KB audio RAM
512KB CD-ROM cache
32KB battery backup RAM
512KB BIOS ROM

That's a little over 5MB. You might be able to cut out the CD-ROM cache, but it'd still be over 4MB, which is what you'd need to do it in on DS (never mind the amount needed for the emulator binary and any other buffers like translation cache)

Wow, that's nice -- maybe later optimisations to it help to speed up the Dreamcast port ?

The bios has to be named saturn.bin to get recognized by the emu.

I recomend you to get the latest psp yabause version here since it actually boots games now http://groups.google.com/group/chilly-willys-ice-flow/files?hl=en

Heres some blurry pics i've taken of Radiant silvergun and Deep fear:

saturn.cue
saturn.bin
Yourgameofchoice.bin
EBOOT.PBP

The structure of the directory has to look like this , the saturn.cue file has to point to Yourgameofchoice.bin or it won't boot of course.

There is no menu for chosing your isos thats why you have to name everything correctly.

If that doesn't work your iso is most likely corrupt or you got a faulty bios , beats me

I'm having the same problem with doomvshalo.
I've managed to find some bios files and rename one of them to "saturn.bin", and place it properly.

But how or where can I get the saturn.cue and Yourgameofchoice.bin?
Are they generated by the emulator itself?

And must I place the iso file which names excatly xxxx.iso?
In fact, I put a XX.img file into the "iso" folder, and it can be recognized in yabause of PC version.
