The hard disk that comes in the PS3 is this:

A 60Gb SEAGATE 2.5" SATA NOTEBOOK HARD DISK DRIVE

You can get a 160 Gb SEAGATE 2.5" SATA NOTEBOOK HARD DISK DRIVE here at this website.

Looking at a few guides, I was able to see that the upgrade is very straightfoward, and, it does not void your warranty. Infact, the japanese ps3 manual came with instructions showing how to upgrade the HDD yourself (apparantly).

I think I'll give it a try sometime.

Bull, x.

Update: Oh! And look... a video; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-B1mQ21XXLE

That simple.

Yeah, you can put bigger than that in it, I think.
Too bad you can't run PS3 games (downloadables like Warhawk) directly off of a portable hard drive though. That would be much cooler and more useful (because you can use it for things other than the PS3.

It depends what you want to use it for.

If you download alot of demos, games and video it can fill up quite fast, i also have loads of music on my PS3 so i can play it through my sound system.

i currently have 30GB free [60GB unit] and while four demos around 1GB each could be deleted, the rest is used often and wont be deleted. I will definately upgrade the HDD at some point, but i wont do it unless it is worthwhile with the largest HDD available.

They do now that you can download original xbox games like halo :CE and fable to play on your 360, plus the amount of demos and arcade, music all adds up

How's YDL? I'm downloading an ISO of Fedora right now, if only I could find my wireless mouse...

Hm, if I don't like FC5 then I'll go to YDL when I change my hard drive. Thanks.

i would try demos though.
how big are they anyway, cause if you need a bunch of space then they must be big, even for a demo.

usally a demo is around 1GB, with some of the fisrtparty show off demos being more. Ratchet/Uncharted are 1.2GB, 1.4GB

Warhawk was around 800MB i think.
