i have another question...lets say you are driving around, but then you get an address....and you type it in...is there a way for the program to just pinpoint your location (with GPS mode on) and direct your to your destination? i tried it, but it was just a striaght white line, and a DIST to MARK value...

Ugh, this question has been asked so many times... See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Map_This!#Address_Lookup.

There might be, Deniska is still working on vector data. See http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2148023534#97.

i read just about every guide about mapthis. so i must download a route or make one in gmdl? then what is the point of markers? also can make POIs in mapthis and use them as routes? sorry to sound like a noob i know how it is because i code plus teach how to get custom firmware

Nieko

MapThis! currently doesn't have the code nor the data (or at least not yet) to generate a graph of streets and intersections and calculate a route from one node to another.

However, POIs are a lot simpler to implement, and they've been there for a while already. You can have POIs for supermarkets, etc.

By simply linking a bunch of POIs by drawing lines between them, you effectively create a route. The calculating part is left to Google, the drawing part to Map This!, simple as that :).

So yes, you do have to download routes (beforehand or wherever you have WiFi), either through GMDL or http://getroute.nieko.net/.

well that is better than paying for service, or buying a $400 gps...i wish i knew how to code for psp apps so i can help, i have many ideas, but dont know how to code it (just in vb, html, and mirc)

also, everytime i try to download maps from wifi, it says wifi failed...i will post a image later, and i did change the settings in the config file

Nieko

WiFi downloading isn't too good, I think you're better off using GMDL.

i see well, i just didnt want to go thru all the troulbe of GMDL, but thanks...and when i make routes, will the software know that my location is en route? thanks...im still reading the wiki, i want to know everything about it...bye

edit: yeah it works, but is there anyway to reverse the pre-made route? and how do you draw routes in the program? i cant seem to go around curves and stuff, or is that possible?

Don't know about GMDL, but on http://getroute.nieko.net/ you can simply click "Swap fields!" to swap the fields; then you can generate the reverse route.

Routes are downloaded directly from Google Maps, so if you're unsure a route will work, you can test it there first.

You can indeed draw routes yourself. Press X to turn on the marker, and press O for a new segment. You can't save this route though, and pressing X again will remove the entire route.

yeah i was playing with that, and when i press O it adds a line from the starting point...but oh well, i guess downloading routes are much easier...my other question (sorry to sound like a noob) is there anyway to add to a map? like load an existing map and add different cities? i have virginia beach, and i want to add different cities to it, or do i have to a whole other map

AFAIK you can't really put a more detailed map inside a bigger one, unless you're willing to spend hours and hours on figuring out how the file format works and what to take into account.

One of the changes I made to Map This! involves automatically switching to the most detailed map for the current location. E.g., when you're in France, it shows the map of Europe, when you move back home to the Netherlands, it switches to the Netherlands, and in your home town it loads an even more detailed map.

See my signature for that.

When I do the address lookup, it cannot find anything. Is this a mapthis problem or the gmdl problem.

Also when i zoom in to add poi on gmdl, it adds poi outside the zoom window and reaches the maximum and doesnt load all of them but loads many i dont want.

thanks

if the geodata.dat file was made from GMDL then its most likely the programs fault not mapthis...

Have you tried disabling plugins?

What is wrong with this maptis prog?

hope you be glad.
I use very well of your program, and I have some suggestion for make better this program.
1- The waypoint read in 20 meters or 5 second, it is best there was a variable for this No.s.
2- It is better that we able to reverse waypoints for back traveles.

sorry for my bad grammer. do you need explain about up notes?

I show you the answers that in7ane made to me to the same question in another forum.
It needs however that in Microsoft VirtualEarth is present the zone of the map.

Regards.

"Custom map size is limited by the bitmap in .NET, so unless Microsoft decides that larger bitmaps should be supported and updates .NET it's pretty much set. You may want to take a look at rendering a map with MapCruncher ( http://research.microsoft.com/mapcruncher/ ), which can use arbitrarily large images, and then importing that into GMDL."

"CLAUDIOGPS: to use the rendered MapCruncher tiles, from http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Global_...MapCruncher.29
1. Select MapCruncher as the Map Source
2. Click Set next to that and select the directory containing the tiles (Layer_NewLayer by default)
3. Click Pull Tiles under the Advanced section which pops up (rather than Download The Map)"

Nieko

You shouldn't need any PRX files at all for a Holux receiver. In general, if you have a fat PSP, better run Map This! (the 1.00 version) from GAME150.

You could also try the green sat info proggie (search the forums for it), see if that works.

HAllo,
I have a problem with GMDL!
I would like a map of Bangkok with English street names.
If I GMDL with a card will still do all the roads in English but if the card produces everything is in Thai script.

Sorry my English is not so good.

Looks like you use google maps and this is how they render the map for Bangkok..
If you find a good other source - post it in gmdl thread - perhaps in7ane would be able to incorporate that source in to future gmdl versions..

Thanks Deniska,
I like some of the new touches.
Like that little arrow that spins around and always points to your marker.
Nice for bushwalking too.
I found it better to make sideplate.png a plain black square,
easy to see ijn the car, and outside.

Two questions, I had it working before, but deleted the config
of the old version

################################################## ##
### THIS LET'S YOU SKIP THE SELECTION MENU ON ###
### STARTUP AND LAUNCH SPECIFIED MAP IN GPS MODE ###
## !REMOVE ^M CHARACTERS AT THE END OF THE STRING ##
################################################## ##
STARTUPMAP= _Default

Is this correct?
I can select this map from the menu, but it isn't auto starting.

Also,
For the 1.00 version, why don't you delete the standard exit callback that isn't working and do this:

if(pad.Buttons & PSP_CTRL_HOME) { // just exit ffs
_sw(0, 0); // cause exception to crash PSP unit (1)
asm("break
"); // cause exception to crash PSP unit (2)
}

Is a crash (PSP standby) not better than a non working exit screen?
Cheers, Art.

EDIT,, NVM figured out one of my toolchain installs can compile it :)

Hi Nieko,

I've tried your version and I found it great most especially the POI using the GPS. However, MY psp slim hangs even if I'm just viewing maps. I tried browsing this site for an answer but I was unfortunate to find one. I'm not sure why it hangs even i'm not doing anything besides from viewing maps. I tried to lower down cpu but still the same. My version is slim 3.90 M33-3 (original fw). Is there anything else I should do? Thanks.

find out the TX voltage on the thing and what protocol/baud it uses... it might work, but first make sure that voltage is <3V (you may need a higher resistance value). overwise you'll fry the serial port on PSP

I do not think it will work.

GPS12 puts out RS232 level while PSP accepts only TTL.
A simple resistor will not do.
You need a RS232>TTL converter.

There were information making such with the phat but I have not seen any for the slim. But basic theory and construction is the same so you could search for such information for the phat.

But frankly I would just get a holux or PSP GPS as the ultimate cost (and time) of your converter will not be that much different.

You should describe in greater detail what your setup is and what type of problem you are experiencing (i.e. does it exit with an error message, code, etc)
Over wise, it's really hard to suggest anything but generic: "Read the stickies!"

But I have a suggestion for deniska and Nieko for the future update of the program. Is it possible to calculate a route POI file automatically from current position to a maker or a specified POI without Wifi as most of the commercial GPSs do. Nieko, is possible to bring traces drawn with your version on google map as for the pois?

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see your message.

Since the POI format used in Map This! doesn't really follow any specific standard (other than CSV), you'll have to write your own script for that.

Because the format is really simple, a simple regular expression will do. This can even be done in Vim :).

If you can manually convert one POI file to a file Google Maps/Google Earth understands, I'll take a look at writing one for you.

Except for the header and footer in the KML file, which you'll have to put there manually, the regular expression'd be something like this:

s/^([^,]+),([^,]+),(.*),$/<Placemark>
<Point><coordinates>\2,\1,0</coordinates></Point></Placemark>/gim;

I hope that's of some use to you :).

Latest Map This! version does not load on my fat PSP (1004) with Sony's FW 1.50 ...

Have spend a couple of hours trying to get this to work, ... no success yet.

This is what I've done:

- Downloaded "MapThis0520.rar"
- Copied the folder "mapViewer" to ms:\PSP\GAME (including folders "maps" and "system")

- I'm using a Holux GPSlim 236
- I've bought the serial cable
- The GPS-viewer Green Proggie for serial GPS works fine (get the correct positions)

Must admit I'm close to stop soon, but would like to get it up and running, any suggestions are very welcome, txs.

Sorry, forgot to inform that the folder "mapViewer" (which is copied to ms:\PSP\GAME) came off course from the folder "MapThis0520\FW1.00" and not from the folder "MapThis0520\FW3.XX".

0.520 requires 3.xx custom firmware kernel to run.. - the only sure way to ensure compatibility with different psp boards and gps receivers...
So the best solution is to upgrade your firmware..
If you must keep it at 1.50 - try using older versions of Mapthis - somewhere in 0.49xx range (make sure you get "generic gps" version)... but you'd have to put up with some bugs and missing features...

Is there anyway to make this work with the Freedom GPS 2000 keychain GPS device. It is the perfect size, and gets good reviews: http://blog.treonauts.com/2008/02/freedom-keychai.html

It uses the MTK 6601 chipset.

Thanks,

I could not find anything indicating that the device supports RS232 type of communication over a serial cable.. if you find any diagrams for the charging socket that would claim overwise - send me a link..

deniska, txs for ur speedy reply. Just to let you know, I was able to get MapThis 0460runing, and when i combined the eboot.pbp's from the 0460 folders "Mapviewer" and "Mapviewer%" with the 0520 folders "system" and "maps" , it got up (I wonder is it still 0460 ...?), but with mayor bugs in the menu's. If needed, let me know, I can send you some screendumps.

Txs again, will upgrade soon to latest M33, but am looking how to dualboot, with M33 loading from the memory card, and SONY 1.50 from the PSP itself (if possible at all).

Deniska, thanks for the great tool for navigating with PSP!

But there is one problem for me :( (and probably for number of users in Russia's middle and east side)
There are only few routes for each Russian cities except Moscow and St.Petersburg.
For example Novosibirsk has only two or three main routes (MS Virtual Earth).

And I think the best solution is your MapThis! with vector maps support (in case there are some programs that allows to add and edit routes).

Would you be kind enough to let me know the date of the next release?
Or, potentially I could get non-stable version (as beta-tester :) ) ?

Thanks in advance.

Thoroughly impressive. Thanks, Deniska. My 290 just arrived, and I had it all up and running inside of about 20 min. 290 did take a bit to acquire and resolve all the satellites, but with maybe a minute or two of walking around, just in my backyard, it was up to 9 sats and nailing the location dead on. GUI's smooth, sensible; this thing's just all win.

It's "Nieko" actually, not "Neiko".

Anyway, last time I tested gps.txt worked just fine. Unfortunately I don't have the time now to test anything, but you could check out the source code if you're brave enough.

For writing to a trail file, the thresholds are 20m and 5 seconds. Both need to have happened for a new entry to be written.

Firstly thanks for the great software

I am living in Shenzhen, China. I know there are problems with the longitudes and latitudes being inaccurate for Google Maps for China (something to do with mapABC uploading incorrect data).

This was discussed here:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=551268

Some chinese coders released their own modified version of MapThis together with a program called Mobimaps which allows you to download maps from 51ditu.com which has accurate maps of China. The version they modified was the 0.4.97 release of mapthis. The Chinese maps work great with this version of mapthis but the trouble is that we miss out on the latest features of the up-to-date software. Loading the 51ditu.com generated maps in 0.5.20 shows the maps as being corrupted.

Here are some examples:
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5404/lat823938lon57666501010tu9.th.png (http://img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lat823938lon57666501010tu9.png)http://img247.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/7296/lat823952lon57680301010cr4.th.png (http://img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lat823952lon57680301010cr4.png)http://img247.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)

I have loads and loads of maps of China which I cannot use in the latest release which is a real shame.

If we can get this to work then my fellow chinese inhabitants will have a solution for their map problems.

I can send a sample map on request.

Thanks

i'm using psp 1001 cfw 5.00 m33-3, i use gps 290 and i'm running on 1.50 kernel

problem on mapthis!:
-the usb gps state is always off how can i turn it on?

oyeah i think i don't have any usbacc.prx and usbgps.prx, cos when i toggled flash (0), i don't have KN folder, i have KM folder and there's no usbaac and usbgps prx. so i download the 2.71 usbacc.prx and 3.03 usbgps.prx from 'yet another FAQ for mapthis' page, and put it in on mapviewer folder, and on flash (0), but the gps still don't work.

i also tried the keycleaner, still not working...

problem on GMDL:
-i'm using gmdl ver.0508b and when i opened the exe file the program wont show the map, i tried typing town, state, country, but still wont show a thing.how am i supposed download the map if i can't even see the map? huhu

However today i uploaded a Big chunk of map: about 1.5 GB. and it does not want to turn on this map. When i select it It says map loading, and then it shuts down. Can the size be a factor of it not turning on ? the smaller maps i uploaded before still work, no problem.

Hi Nieko, good morning and wishes for the new year. Last summer in Brussel, in a souvenir shop, near Grand Place, my psp slim with psp290 was stolen . for this reason I have bought a Holux M1200 and I have made the cable for connection to a psp 1000 that I had at home (cf 3.71 M33-3), but I have found the following problems:

-I cannot hold the holux to contact of the psp shell, because this, douring functioning, it sends forth some radiations that make impossible a correct hookup of the satellites. At least 10 centimeters of distance are needed for a correct operation.

- Using your version of the program, the recording trail files, every time they come overwritten with the same name: trail 00000000000000, and the points contain information of speed but not of date and time. Obviously date and time are perfectly regulated in the psp.

I think that the first problem is impossible to resolve, but is possible to do something for the second?

CLAUDIOGPS: about the first thing, it may indeed interfere too much. Even with the PSP-290 reception gets a lot better with an extension cable.

About the date not working correctly, that may indeed be the case. I've never had a Holux or anything like that, only the PSP-290, so that's why I've never been able to test that.

In the GPS screen, do you see the proper date and time there? I think I took those date and time for recording too.

Anyway, you may want to take a look there.

I think the program you're using to extract the archive isn't working properly, or doesn't fully support RAR. You could try WinRAR or WinZIP, those should work.

Otherwise you could try the version in which I've made some changes: http://stuff.nieko.net/psp/mapthis/mapThis0520%20-%20Nieko.zip

Thank you very much, Nieko. I could do well.
However, I didn't know that my PSP needs CFW to use Map This. I think I should have studied more how to install and use Map this correctly before I tried it myself... So, could you tell me which version of CFW I need and where I can get it?
Also, I tried to use DMDL file,gmdl0.4.16.zip, but I couldn't use google map, and even VE didn't work well. When I chose VE, I could see the large size of preview, and it took a long time to download it because of its huge file size.
Is there other way to get the maps?
I'm asking you a lot, but I'm really interested in Mapthis on PSP. Thank you very much.

Hallo Nieko, In the GPS screen, I see the proper date and time, but if somebody else tould to me if has't the same problem with holux i could think that the problem would be something wrong with hardware, an incorrect copy of the program on the ms and so on.

turtle: come on, really... Try searching the forum first, find the wikibook. Try to do at least something yourself before asking for help.

CLAUDIOGPS: if the clock works in one place, but not in another (GPS recording), I'm afraid I just made a mistake somewhere. If you incorrectly copy a program, usually it doesn't run at all.

Nieko, it is a pity that nobody wants more to develop mapthis, because it is one of the few interesting applications for psp. For me is not interest alternative menù, mp3 player etc. because the original Sony are already all right.

Besides mapthis, Pucelano made a nice spreadsheet (but to improve). Another nice thing would be to make a program for the planning appointments (there are something, but to improve) or something to study the sky (a planetarium).

However I understand that without earn some €, nobody want to spent time for this. It would be beautiful that Sony do as Apple do for the Iphone, but this will never happen.
For more unlucky, the new psp are not crackable (for now),
What unhappiness!:(

Hello again everyone...
I've made an application to extract from Google the coordinates from a given street. I've printed this info to a CSV file and imported on GMDL to generate the geodata.dat file. BUT... no matter the changes what I do in the CSV... when I put the generated geodata.dat file in the map folder, the search never found the street.

Anyone here has an CSV of example what generated a working geodata.dat file? I'm using this info:
-26,3611103; -48,8101808; RUA AMABILE SEBALDI; JOINVILLE (SC)
-26,3586086; -48,8104450; RUA HENRIQUE WALMOR LENNERT; JOINVILLE (SC)

-26,3554195; -48,8193221; RUA ABAETE; JOINVILLE (SC)

There's something wrong with?

Here I'm sending the link to get the map I've downloaded. It's only 16mb.

Finally Mapthis works with Starsnav BT-74S using exactly the same connectivity as Holux!

I also tried sony usb gps but Starsnav seems to having much..much better accuracy and sensitivity than original sony 290's usb gps module.

I used extension cable (http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=20581) instead of remote control.. As far i remeber for anyone who tries RX and GRD cables was coloured Blue and Orange + i used 2k Ohm resistor on RX.

Jk.

Help!!!! I am getting seriously hacked off with the mapthis prog. Don't get me wrong it is a fantastic bit of kit and the GMLD tool is a breeze but I cannot get my GPS-290 to work:-(

I am running CFW 401 m33-2 and map this0520, I've tried the 043.bin and putting the usbacc.prx and usbgps.prx from the CFW next to the EBOOT and sioprx.prx files but still no joy:-( I understand the software will work on any CFW. Any help would be greatly appreciated:-) Cheers

Unfourtanly you need a custom firmware psp you could hack if you had firmware 5.3 and use the chikhen app but you upgraded it to 5.5 or maybe you bought it like that, you would have to wait to see if they can bypass OFW 5.50

DIGG THIS (http://digg.com/gadgets/MapThis_0_5_20_with_holux_support)

http://digg.com/gadgets/MapThis_0_5_20_with_holux_support

NEW IN v0.5.20
- Generic serial GPS receivers support (Holux gpslim236-240, M1000-1200 and others) for slim psp
- One version of the program (FW3.XX) supports both PSP-290 and Holux receivers.
Type of receiver can now be selected via configuration screen:
ENABLESERIALPORT=1 - Holux / serial port gps devices
ENABLESERIALPORT=0 - PSP-290 support.
Note that due to FW limitations the version for 1.0-1.5 firmware does not have support for PSP-290 receiver.
- WIFI upload should now work in all versions of the program. (must be enabled with LOADWIFI=1 flag)
- Variable map scroll speed (controlled via CURSORSPEED=..)
- Zoom in/out animation (toggled with SMOOTHZOOM=1)
- Smooth transition between 2D and bird-view modes
- Sound output controlled programatically in FW3.xx version. (applies to serial port gps devices only)
If during program starup the audio/serial connector is not plugged in, the sound is routed to internal speakers.
- Rotating POI icons, better rendering of compass arrows, etc
- Numerous rendering optiomizations (as of v05.05)
- Misc bug fixes
- Code cleanup
- Source code included

You PAID for Registry booster? Oh... you poor unfortunate n00b... The download link for MapThis is on the very first post of this thread!

Well, pwning n00bs aside, I have a legitimate question:

GMDL does Geodata for the USA and Canada, but what about other countries? I'm in Australia, and would really like to have that info on my PSP. Is there another program that can pull that info?

December 27th, 2009, 20:50
MapThis and all other homebrew applications for the PSP don't work on the latest official firmware. You need to use custom firmware but as your PSP is on v6.20, then unless you've got a PSP 1000 or a 2000 that's not got a TA-88v3 mobo, you're screwed.

As I konw,MAPTHIS 0.50 had a function that you can use O+analog to proofread lotation in GPS mode.
BUT this function doesn't work in MAPTHIS 0.52.
it seem author cut it off in new version.
WHY??
it's very useful.especially google china map isn't accurate enough.
PLEASE ADD IT IN NEW VERSION!

it seems your network was broken once or more while you downloading.

A New Idea
I have a new idea, but I don't have the skill to modify the software,So I want to tell you my suggestion, and hope you to make the modification.that is:
when I download and make a google satellite map, not curve map of my homeland, I find that google have set a large distortion to the satellite map,So the satellite map has a big shift relative to the curve map,and I think the satellite map is not correct. then
I hope you modify the software, so we can make compensation to the map data, something like delta longitude and Delta latitude, and save these two number in the relative map directory, and next time we open the map,the compensation numbers will be automaticlly read.however,This method can only solve the linear map distortion or error.
And we will operate like this:
We start mapthis with psp-290,and select the map,and psp-290 will locate the map at a position using the GPS signal, record the longitude and latitude, then we shift the map to the position where we really on manually, record the longitude and latitude again, calculate the delta value of longitude and latitude, use those as compensation value,so we now have an accurate satellite map.
