NEW IN v0.5.20
- Generic serial GPS receivers support (Holux gpslim236-240, M1000-1200 and others) for slim psp
- One version of the program (FW3.XX) supports both PSP-290 and Holux receivers.
Type of receiver can now be selected via configuration screen:
ENABLESERIALPORT=1 - Holux / serial port gps devices
ENABLESERIALPORT=0 - PSP-290 support.
Note that due to FW limitations the version for 1.0-1.5 firmware does not have support for PSP-290 receiver.
- WIFI upload should now work in all versions of the program. (must be enabled with LOADWIFI=1 flag)
- Variable map scroll speed (controlled via CURSORSPEED=..)
- Zoom in/out animation (toggled with SMOOTHZOOM=1)
- Smooth transition between 2D and bird-view modes
- Sound output controlled programatically in FW3.xx version. (applies to serial port gps devices only)
If during program starup the audio/serial connector is not plugged in, the sound is routed to internal speakers.
- Rotating POI icons, better rendering of compass arrows, etc
- Numerous rendering optiomizations (as of v05.05)
- Misc bug fixes
- Code cleanup
- Source code included

Factory-made cables and parts for DIY projects can be purchased @ http://pc-mobile.net/pspgps.htm

Everything seems to be working so far with my PSP-2000 on 3.71 m33-3.

One question though. I just got POI files working, and I have some questions regarding that.

ok, so I have this file "_myPOI" and its in the folder with the maps.
Sample:

#
!WAYPOINT
#
35.118752,138.911697,0
35.118153,138.909927,0
.......
35.116844,138.595917,0
<EOF>
I load up my map, all ok. Now... the POI doesnt show up by default, and pressing triangle does nothing (throws me an error). Ok, so i go "start" and enter POI lookup. (here it seems Circle means search, and X means load POI), press X on my POI file, and there it all comes up. Problem now is that mapthis wants to continue the waypoint thing from the last waypoint. wants to put more markers.. I dont want this. I just want to see my line. also, all these green dots show up on every coordinate in my waypoint list. Pressing triangle to turn POI off leaves me with a red line, outlining the path, which is what i want. But still it wants me to continue plotting a path

Is this a bug? Did I miss something? Is there some kind of waypoint termination command im missing in my POI file?

And where can I find a full reference for the POI file format?

Other than that, awesome program. Love it :)

warbird: this is done by design. The gray line from the destination point to your current location indicates how far you still have to go as the crow flies. Also, while viewing the map, you can place additional segments by pressing circle. Of course you could just ignore the gray line :).

In my version (based on .505 still) you can specify a _DEFAULT POI file, which is loaded when loading a map.

A reference for the POI file format can be found here: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MapThis!

how does the sound thing for audio/serial connector actually work??

- Sound output controlled programatically in FW3.xx version. (applies to serial port gps devices only)

If during program starup the audio/serial connector is not plugged in, the sound is routed to internal speakers.

In other words, if you plug in the cable before you start the program, no sound is coming out of the PSP internal speaker, which is NORMAL, and the sound is coming out of the headphone.

It used to be that whenever you had the audio/GPS plug plugged in, you would get no sound through the speakers.

However, programmatically it's possible to _still_ output sound through the speakers, even though an audio plug is plugged in.

What does the Wifi upload do ?

And the vector data, is it implemented ?

Very good that bugs are fixed and that there is now only one version of the program !!

Should fade many problems away :)

wait... there are two conrtradicting statement here..

Nieko u r saying that the audio function makes sound comes out thru the speakers when audio/GPS is plugged in.

r2000 u r saying that if we plug in the cable, no sound will come out of the speaker.

so.. which is right? or am i seeing the wrong thing? can't be.. i haven had my beer and its only 11:56 pm!! and if Nieko is right, its not working. i just tried

A few things must happen for this to work:
1) you must run 3.xx version of the program
2) must have ENABLESERIALPORT=1 in config
3)must start up the program w/o anything connected to serial port jack..
This was only tested on M33 3.5 FW and higher..
May not work on some earlier custom firmwares

The idea is that plugging in headphones normally disables sound through loudspeakers. However, programmatically, sound through speakers can be turned on when an audio cable is plugged in.

This version of MapThis turns on sound through speakers _only_ when you plug in your generic GPS when you've already started MapThis. If you had it plugged in before starting MapThis, audio will be turned off through speakers.

Hmmm.

I just copied my 5.2 mapviewer folder over my 5.05....

First I got:

" ERROR: COULD NOT START USB ACC DRIVER GPS WILL BE DISABLED "

So I changed serial port to 1 (using holux m1200) and now I don't get the error, but i get no gps info.

THX all- love the new smooth animation and this v. fixed some cursor issues for me......just no gps :)

EDIT: Looked through the readme AGAIN- and found that I had to be installed under 1.5 and that eboot.pbp had to be in the same directory. Problem solved! THANKS!!

EDIT II: I'm finding that I can't plug in after loading (to use the new sound routing feature) or my gps doesn't show up. I have to be plugged in when I start??

you can use wifi upload to get small maps from google directly over wifi.. I would not try getting a large map though - it may take forever.. gmdl is still your best bet..

still working on the vector data implementation - re-writing the storage container....

I finally got it done and works:thumbup:
I used (PSP Slim+Holux GPSlim236) combination, on my first try, I did not change the "enableserial" setting on Mapthis as suggested by Deniska, after doing that, it's all done, very easy and clean, thanks Deniska!
for the DIY cable, I want to suggested that one should try the "remote control cable" originally tested by Deniska, I instead used a "component TV output cable" because I thought that was also from the serial port, but after testing the pins with Ohm meter, I found that the cable did not solder one of the 2 pins in its sealed head, which is needed for this work, I have to unseal the head and do some soldering to connect the missing pin, which makes this cable vulnerable to water and so on, so be advised, just used the "remote control cable" that Deniska suggested. Good work!

by the way, can this software be used in "automatic routing" :confused: that is, I point out the destination, then Mapthis does the routing job, guide me which routes I should take?

Poi format has changed as of v0.505 - if you use custom POIs - you'll need to convert them to newer format: the icons should be aligned vertically with sizes equal to 8x16, 16x32, 32x64...

More info you can take a look to my previous edited post. I Think there is something wrong between this version and firmware 3.71 m33-3. Where must be mapthis 0.5.2 installed in GAME, GAME150 or GAME3.71 depending on installing psp290 or holux gps? And with the menu recovery-configuration-kernel set in 1.50 or 3.71? mapthis 0.5.2 need prx files for working with psp290?

First off it has been a while since I posted last as I have been out of the psp gps scene for a while. I notice this states generic gps support, does this mean that mapthis will now work with any serial based gps connector? or is it still limited to just the holux or the psp gps adaptor? I sold my psp gps and I now have a usb gps antenna for my laptop, and was wondering if it would be possible to use this with mapthis.

deniska

generic simply means not made by sony.
This mostly applies to holux models, although some other receivers work too.. you still need the "special" serial cable though

The latest version comes with a tiny map of new york city as a sample. with help of gmdl software, you should be able to generate a map for any region available on google maps. - if you see in on google maps - you'll see it in map this... plus there are ways to import other image maps - just search the forums for details.. it should work on 3.60 m33 although I have not tested it on this specific FW version...

philiphili: it's less sharp because the north-up mode has been "dropped" (it shows it as if it were track up mode). Because of this I still use .501, because I like the clarity you get a lot.

The main thing that has changed concerning files are the format of POI icons (vertical instead of horizontal) and of course config.txt.

All this may vary with fw that you have in your psp.

For afgunboi.

I can tell you what i have done.
- First, you mast have a wifi internet communication with an access point. (network setting of original menu psp).
- Load also a little map of the place were you are (not absolutely necessary).
- Change the option in config.txt LOADWIFI=1.
- Now you can find a new item in map choose: "=== wifi map upload ===".

OBOROO, you have to put the program in the right directory (psp/game or psp/game3xx ecc.), and also you have to check if usbacc.prx and usbgps.prx are in same directory of the program.
All this may vary with fw that you have in your psp.

There is so much more it can do compared to a stand alone GPS... in the sense of fun....I made a mp3 file from at&t's voice recognition sight...saying what we all wish a gps would say if you went left instead of right.....My friends pissed them self when they heard it.... but, unfortunately, I can not find a way to use it.... Is there some way to ad that " Off Coarse " or "wrong way point" ....

I am glad you liked the program.. You are right, the beuaty of open sorce software is that you can tweak it to your liking.. In your case, if you are creative, you should be able (with help of gmdl program) produce your own set of custom (and pretty extensive) voice prompts (set of up to 1000), which would be triggered by certain combination of words in the direction listings.. ie you can have one promt for "merge left", another prompt for "left turn" yet another promt for just word "left" (if nothing else matches).. and so on...
So with some patience & creativity you should be able to "teach" the program to spill back any funny attitude that you wish ...

And.. if you ever come up with any funny promts set. please post it so other can try it out too.. ;-)

"wrong turn" feature is not yet implemented in the program itself.. but, in theory, one can combine a route with a set of manually added POIs which are set on every intersection where you can go off course. So if you make a wrong turn, you land on a POI (which can have a transparent icon if needed) saying "You made wrong turn, dude".. perhaps in7ane would look at implementing this if he has time... but until then, you can fabricate this "smart route" semi-manually if you just want to entertain your friends..

If i press the "X" button marking a point with gps on and starting to walk, and also continuosly press the "O" button, on the screen i have a red track. Naturally it is not very pretty for my right thumb, but if this is made via software, also saving every 5 or 10 minutes the track on ms for future retrieve, would be very useful. So when i am walking on the streets of a beautiful town, i know what places i have still to visit.

Another thing: is possible to display two or more categories of poi on the screen?

I'm using the gps psp-290 and the PSP Slim in Chicago. The reception always comes and goes and that's ok. The thing is that I don't see an easy way to trace a direction. Is there any way to do it in the PSP instead with a computer and the map program? Also I don't understand about geodata, is it the things about the stores and telephones? If someboty can give me some hints I'll appreciate it. Well, that's all. Thanks for the homebrew, it is great!

CLAUDIOGPS: not necessarily, although you should only use !WAYPOINT once, you can use !IMAGE:file.png as often as you want. Subsequent entries will then use that POI file.

christeck9: I have answered that question 3 posts before your post... But you might mean calculating a route from point A to point B (this isn't called tracing), which is not possible in MapThis yet. Indeed, use either GMDL or http://getroute.nieko.net/.

If you search the forums a bit for "POI" and "geodata" you should be able to find what the two are, or check http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Map%20This.

Since the scale shown on the map is a png file in the system folder which means the same scale will apply to all places in the world regardless its latitude. However, I find that the scale is not correct for my Hong Kong Map downloaded from Google by GMDL, Is the Scale.png not correct or should we "scale" the scale.png for places in different latitude?

Anyother problem is, China map download from mapABC by GMDL seems drift in both Long/Lat. I download the map of Shenzhen, China and the GPS arrow indicates that I am about 500 meter North West from my actual street corner. I think it is a problem of map ABC but can we adjust it from GMDL or the map This?

I am aware of the scale problem.. Although it is not on my "high priority" list..
The quick workaround is to create a new scale image for your latitude and replace the existing one in system folder...
As far as the map goes.. I may introduce x/y offset variables in configuration, to correct the positioning error.. Until then, if you are handy - you can try to use "MapCruncher" on your existing map to adjust the coordinates..

pctong, mapABC, or Google when supplying them specs, seems to have messed up on rendering the tiles - you can see the offset in Google Earth by loading up http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/MapABC.kml , my guess is that it will get fixed eventually as this will probably affect their searches/routing too (note how there is no satellite view in ditu.google.cn as that would show up the offset).

deniska, are you planning on just having a fixed lat/lon offset (user specifies 1 point) or something of a reprojection (2 or 3 user specified points) like what MapCruncher does?

deniska: I've moved NMEA recording+fakefeed to config file, and moved my GPS to POI recording to the start menu. As said before, I suck at graphics, so menubuttons.png still has to be updated :). [edit: new menubuttons.png done.]

NMEA recording is specified using the NMEARECORDING directive (0=off, 1=on). Of course NMEA recording only works when fakefeed=0. POI recording and NMEA recording at the same time is possible.

Start recording in menu always opens a file with "!WAYPOINT", but it only begins recording when you really have a fix (i.e., when you can see the green bars).

Instead of mapping reverse cycling through display modes to the left button, I followed AlbertoZ's idea of using the left button for night mode. Implementing reverse cycling would've been a lot harder also because of the overlap between rotatemap=0|1 when GPS is off.

I also noticed two things:

In main.c::menuGpsInfo290() CPU frequency is reset after pressing Select, but this doesn't happen in main.c::menuGpsInfoGeneric(). Why is this?
Why is WARNINGDISTANCE based on pixels at zoom level 1? The more you zoom out, the closer by you need to be.

The complete changelog is:
Changes:

Auto switching of maps, Map This! will automatically load more detailed maps;
NMEARECORDING and FAKEFEED are specified in config.txt;
Left button is mapped to toggling night mode;
Toggling fakefeed in the menu is now recording GPS to POI file;

Trail can be seen on the map with marker turned on.

WARNINGDISTANCE is now really always in pixels, not relative to pixels at zoom level 1:
MIDPOINT POIs are ignored: don't show message plate;
_MY_POIS are read from /PSP/COMMON instead of per map;
The screen doesn't change brightness when adapter is plugged in (only when viewing map);
In all lists, left and right shoulder button moves the cursor 10 places back or forth;
Autozoom zooms in or out depending on your speed;

AUTOZOOM indicates per how many speed units it should zoom in or out;
AUTOZOOMHYSTERESIS (from GoDE) indicates hysteresis;

Second line in POI can now be 90 characters;
Support for _DEFAULT POI file, which loads at startup;
Analog scrolling, still taking CURSORSPEED into account;
No need for sioprx.prx when ENABLESERIALPORT=0;
Do not show _MY_POIS when loading another POI file;
Fixed spelling and added some info in config.txt.

Bug fixes:

STARTUPSCREENMODE works again;
makefile pointed to .PNG files instead of to .png;
{attraction,circle,warning}.png had green and red swapped;
When adding a POI the second line is empty by default, used to be single space;
With a valid STARTUPMAP and STARTUPSCREENMODE=0, no map was shown.

Also, ^M at the end of STARTUPMAP= in config.txt is ignored.

The changed files are: attractions.[ch], display.c, font.[ch], ICON0.png, ICON00.png, main.[ch], makefile, menu.[ch], menubuttons.png, {attraction, circle, waypoint}.png

Thanks!
I'll give it a try and merge in to official version when i have a chance..

-I dont' think I change the frequency in generic Sat info screen (there is no need for that) - but I'll doublecheck that logic..

WARNINGDISTANCE implementation was the easiest, and seemd like a good idea at that time.. if you want - feel free to change it..

Nieko
December 2nd, 2007, 21:38
Ah right, I misread, it's still possible to change CPU frequency, but it doesn't do it by itself indeed, like in menuGpsInfo290().

Concerning warningdistance, I removed the "/zm" after warn_dist, effectively giving a warning as soon as you're 35 pixels away from the waypoint.

Together with autozoom (I hope to get this in tomorrow) this allows you to see freeway exits earlier than e.g. a turn on a small village road.

I updated the zipfile above to include different approach to warningdistance.

This because (i.e.) when i walk in a city and in the meaning that i watch a building i involuntarily push "marker off" and my trail goes off .......

For me is useful to have the charge percentage because when i am outdoor i use the batteries until

Your problem is that you press cross (marker off) and thus you can't see the trace anymore?

This is intended functionality, if you don't want the marker anymore, you can't see the trace anymore either. Do keep in mind recording doesn't stop then, you have to disable this explicitly in the menu. As long as you see "REC: ON" in the upper left and as long as you're moving, it's recording.

Of course you can still load the trace file through POI Lookup when you're done recording.

I do not find it a critical operation. Recording itself is. You can always get the initial trace back by loading the POI file.

In principle, it could, but because the picture is so small, it won't help much.

If you search for "ov2 convert" or something similar on Google, you'll be able to find a few programs that can dump the OV2 data into a readable format. You'll need to work a bit with the data that you get then. In MapThis POI files, it's important to first have latitude, then longitude. I believe in the dump of OV2 data it's the other way around.

Get from a map for Map this! an image of great dimensions is possible to use the utility "view" of GMDL.

In fact, after having chosen the directory of the map, pressing the button "save 8192x8192 tiles" an image.png is saved, if the map of departure is of inferior dimensions to 8192x8192 and four or more if greater.

The inverse walk however I don't know, and it would be useful to have maps manually modified or to have maps from scanned plants of the cities.

I have found a way instead to have more indications on battery charge: with the plugin Battery PRX v0.021 http://dl.qj.net/dl.php?fid=12955. I have noticed a good compatibility with your preceding edition of mapthis.
With this I have also noticed that if the speed of the cpu is not set by menù, after having accessed the panel infogps, this change to 333 mhz even if in the config.txt i had pointed out the frequency of startup to 222 (and obviously the speed of cpu was effectively at 222 mhz).

The problem was that on "gps info" and in the status bar at top, the value was shown correctly, but at the panel right side, wasn' t... so the application points to a place based in the value in the right side panel.

Nieko, the program works very well and the new implementation is very useful.
There is however a problem when maps are used with overlap of zones.
If in the zone of overlap, some sectors have not been unloaded during the creation with GMDL, during the visualization can appear some black zones.

This is a problem of GMDL, because, when some zones are eliminated douring download, these are eliminated only in the zooms of inferior level and not in that of first level (I have correctly used GMDL?). It would be well instead that GMDL created all the levels of zoom with the same coverage.

Besides when the analog pad is not center perfectly at times the map flows alone.
Instead of a driving type linear y=kx, would be better a driving type quadratic y=k (x+c) 2 or cubic y=k (x+c) 3, where y is the move of the map, x is the move of the analogic pad, 2, 3 the exponents and c a possible dead zone.

Good job, you are very strong and also all who works to this project.

Regards.

p.s. I have discovered how to make maps with GMDL from any images. But doesn't a complete guide exist for the use? (so i immediately would discover all that can do). Till now I have not found a complete guide.

You're right, auto switching of maps does not take into account the possibility that several layers may be partly empty. Perhaps I can implement this later, but I'm not sure. (It might be too CPU intensive e.g.)

I'll be gone for a few weeks though, so it'll have to wait.

About the analog pad, do you mean speed should be the input from the analog pad squared, so pulling the analog pad all the way will make the cursor move 4 times as fast as only halfway?

CLAUDIOGPS
December 16th, 2007, 20:48
Nieko, for the analog pad, i mean that the first displacement of this, move very little the map, but increasing the displacement of the analog pad the map move much more faster. In this manner when i want to center on a poi i can do easy, with little movement, but when i want to move very fast, i put the analog pad to the end.
As now, but not linear, but with a curve, that increase his slope.
So you can have hight sensitivity and hight velocity when you want.

For the map layers, i think is more simple to pay attention when i do them with GMDL.

Good holidays.

Just got my GPS 290 and got everything working... except I don't find the instructions for generating and loading maps. Right now I am getting 1 sat, but I haven't6 taken it outside yet.

Using a US Phat running 3.52M33 Mapthis.52 and gmdl5.04b

Ok so the little addition of a leading "_" solved the map issue I was having. Now I just gotta get the system to find more then 2 satalites at a time. I might acutally have to go outside

Hi, first of all, I'm using a PSP 1004, 3.71M33-4 with 1.50 kernel addon2, and IdStorage fixed with keycleaner. The program works fine, and in GPS INFORMATION shows GPS STATE: ON.

But it's hard for the program to find satellites, and when found, shows on GPS INFORMATION screen:

FIXED: 00
HDOP: 0.0
LAT and LON:0.000000
ALT: 0.0
and in all satellites, AZIMUTH 000 and FIX: 00

Where is my problem??

Thanks!

CLAUDIOGPS
December 26th, 2007, 11:11
Eawy, is not very easy to find what is going wrong.

In any case:
1) you have to be outdoor with a large peace of visible sky;
2) the time of fixing may vary with the position of gps satellites on your had. In one moment fixing would be very fast, (not less of 1.5-2 minutes) two ours leter wuold be very long (also 6 minutes).
3) To fix faster you must be firm.

This is for Italy, but I think also in Europe is the same.
I don't know if in another continent is the same (in Alaska?, in the North Pole?).

Hi, I've tried again MapThis!, and this time works, but after about 20 minutes. It started to find satellites faster than other times, but still show the same values on GPS INFORMATION.

After about 20 minutes, AZIMUTH began to change, and I skiped from GPS INFORMATION and after about a minute, it localize me.

I think that 20 minutes are many time, isn't it?

Thanks a lot!

Nitro2985: use GMDL (http://www.in7ane.com/psp/) and search the forums if you encounter problems.

eawy: 20 minutes is a lot indeed, you may want to buy an extension cable: http://pc-mobile.net/pspue1.htm. It reduces the time to get a fix drastically :).

I'm not quite sure if there are any differences between the device shipped with Go!Explore or the Japanese one, nor about the exact GPS chips etc. in it.

I've noticed that the time needed to get a fix depends mainly on sky visibitility (try it in an open field first) and also partly on the weather. If it's really cloudy, it seems to take longer.

Btw., with that extension cable I could even have 5-6 satellites fixed while inside with all the curtains closed, so you may want to consider it. (Though that extra length isn't always that handy to carry around.)

eawy

As for your problem, you could try following the steps on http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Map_This! or try my version of 0.5.20 (see my signature), perhaps that one does work (config.txt thingy perhaps).

In principle, a whole lot of things are possible :), but not all of those are desirable. Personally, I don't think every single option of the program should be customizable in config.txt, and same with this one. Same also applies e.g. for directly showing geodata lookup or specifying a certain fixed location where the map will always open.

Galpuro,

There are plenty tutorials out there on how to do this.
I strongly suggest to use a "Pandora battery" with a software modified memory stick using "pan3xx" latest version and "despertar_cementeriov3".
Unfortunately to use these software to make pandora battery and a pandora ms, is necessary to have (also for ten minutes) a psp with custom firmware.
If you know a friend that have one.....
This system is very simple and fast. In this way i had installed on my psp fat and another slim the cf 3.71 m33-3 and mapthis! work fine for hours and hours without freezing.
If you want to know the exactly procedure that i used, i can give you the link bat it is in Italian language.

compatible with mapthis! that show battery status, other things and usage of cpu.
Update 4 of the CFW 3.71 M33 is required to run this plugin. it is very useful and pretty. But i sow that your version of mapthis! has an usage of cpu of 95%, and the version mapthis! 0.5.0ZZ has an usage of cpu of 95%.
This is true or not? (i will test the battery life).

Directly with mapthis! is impossible, but if with GMDL you have download geodata for your map is possible find a street, you have to do: menu'-> address look up-> write exactly the name of the street e.g. "via Giuseppe Garibaldi" in Italy and where you are "senyetal utca" (if i read right). If you write only "senye" mapthis! will give you all streets beginning with this name.
In posts of Nieko there is a link that give you the path to go in any place, but only with pc. With psp with wifi connection? I don't still test.

Markata, I have understood right? only six days from ordering in China to arrive in your house at Varna? It is a miracle!
I waited a month to receive a psp 290.
Also a my friend in San Diego (US) say to me that for him it take the time as me.

CLAUDIOGPS I'm talking about the cable (bought from http://www.moby.cn/ ), cause I buy some other stuff from play-asia.com and also waited a month. ( thats why I'm happy - can you compare 1 month to 6 days ? :) ) . I bought my holux from my country ;)

Deniska - u r the master!

Some of us using this site:
Calculate routes using PSP browser: http://getroute.nieko.net/

is there any possibility for put this directly into mapviewer?

then we will get possibility of serching routes without exiting mapviewer :)

or... maybe there is no reason fordoing this becouse you have some serching engine as well as vector maps :)

Once again - You are grat!

Nieko, is possible to activate "record to poi file" without gps on? in this way, moving with joypad, I could make a route saved on the ms, to use in second time.

Regards.

ps can you see n. 185?

Nieko
January 21st, 2008, 16:01
It used to be possible, through some sort of hack, but I disabled that.

I don't think I'll be working much on Map This! any time soon, so I'm not sure if I'll get to this.

Concerning n. 185, if you place "!IMAGE:somefile.png," in a POI file, then all entries after that will use that image file, until you specify another !IMAGE of course.

I'm not quite sure what you mean with changing name of PNG files in _DEFAULT POI file btw.

Nieko, many thanks, everything has gone right reworking poi files with GMDL - poi section.
Is a pity that you will not work anymore to brief on this project, because your version is very interesting.

how to use? http://getroute.nieko.net/ :eek:

Nieko
January 22nd, 2008, 11:37
You simply fill in points A and B (e.g. from "10 Street, London" to "1 Another street, Manchester" and click "Get route!". The file you get you should save in a map folder or in ms0:/PSP/COMMON/.

What? Do you mean: "Can I use it without an internet connection?", then no, you can't, because then you can't connect to the site in the first place.

You'll need to give a better description of what you're doing and where exactly things go wrong. A simple "it doesn't work" isn't enough.

Ah, you mean you're using the WiFi download function in Map This! itself :). This function hasn't really worked that well for me either, you're better off using GMDL (http://www.in7ane.com/psp/).

You'll know your PSP-290 works if in the GPS Info screen it says "GPS state: ON".

DIGG THIS (http://digg.com/gadgets/MapThis_0_5_20_with_holux_support)

http://digg.com/gadgets/MapThis_0_5_20_with_holux_support

NEW IN v0.5.20
- Generic serial GPS receivers support (Holux gpslim236-240, M1000-1200 and others) for slim psp
- One version of the program (FW3.XX) supports both PSP-290 and Holux receivers.
Type of receiver can now be selected via configuration screen:
ENABLESERIALPORT=1 - Holux / serial port gps devices
ENABLESERIALPORT=0 - PSP-290 support.
Note that due to FW limitations the version for 1.0-1.5 firmware does not have support for PSP-290 receiver.
- WIFI upload should now work in all versions of the program. (must be enabled with LOADWIFI=1 flag)
- Variable map scroll speed (controlled via CURSORSPEED=..)
- Zoom in/out animation (toggled with SMOOTHZOOM=1)
- Smooth transition between 2D and bird-view modes
- Sound output controlled programatically in FW3.xx version. (applies to serial port gps devices only)
If during program starup the audio/serial connector is not plugged in, the sound is routed to internal speakers.
- Rotating POI icons, better rendering of compass arrows, etc
- Numerous rendering optiomizations (as of v05.05)
- Misc bug fixes
- Code cleanup
- Source code included

finally I bought a Hulox m1200, it works great. Thank you Deniska for your great work.

what cable did you use?

was it the GHPSP - Holux GPSlim 236/240/M1000 cable for PSP-1000 from http://pc-mobile.net/pspgps.htm ?

what are the differences between the Holux GPS slims and the m1000 and m1200 ?

i might order mine today but i would like to know if the cable for the m1000 works and which is a better receiver?

btw this is my first post here.

thanks

February 11th, 2008, 23:42
yes, I got my cable from Pc-mobile,it works for both M1000 and M1200, I think the bigest differences between two is that M1200 is only half size of M1000 (M1200 is probably the smallest GPS receiver in the world). so M1200 will be recommended

I got the M1000 model just because i noticed i can use Nokia Cellphone batteries if the original ones my holux uses dies or so :D

+ i already have a standalone charger for those kind of batteries + i made a GPS+Charge cable myselve and added scematics to it on this site :D

So you reckon =P if i get the holux 1200 it will lock on faster? =D

haven't been around in awhile =P hadn't used my gps much...also want to thank you guys, especially PDG for all the help these years.

ok so i'm having some problems. i can't seem to get this version of MapThis to run. I'm using the Fat PSP with firmware 3.52-4 M33. I have my kernel set to 1.50. I took everything from the 3.XX firmware version of the mapthis and put it in my GAME150 folder. Yet when I put my card back in my psp and access the card it only gives me 2 corrupt data icons. I tried moving it to the GAME folder and the GAME352 and changing the kernel. I still couldn't get anything to work. What am I doing wrong?

Nieko
February 13th, 2008, 15:05
3.xx firmware won't work in GAME150, and if 1.50 is your default kernel, then also not from GAME. It should work from GAME352 though.

And as always, try http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Map_This! :).

BouncE
February 13th, 2008, 15:46
hmm...i even set my kernel to 3.52 and put the 3.xx folder contents in my GAME352 folder but it still give me corrupt data icons...and i have looked at the WIKI page...it has not information regarding the corrupt data icons.

Nieko
February 13th, 2008, 16:51
Are you sure you have e.g. the file ms0:/PSP/GAME352/mapviewer/EBOOT.PBP? It's important that the EBOOT.PBP is in a subdirectory of GAME352/.

BouncE
February 13th, 2008, 17:13
ahh, damn. i think i figured it out... i didn't have it it like that. I had the files right under the GAME352 folder, didn't make a folder called mapviewer and put all the files in there. Thanks Nieko for your help.

your device sees 3 satellites but does not fix on to them.. try giving it more time.. also check the thread which discusses the sensitivity tweaks, etc..
