Mapthis questions

Alright so i have a couple of questions about the whole mapthis + sony-290 gps thing. ive heard of people having trouble with it while in hawaii...so is the gps usable everywhere or just certain locations. also about the whole making your own maps...is it possible just to make one detailed map, not like satellite image detail, but street name detail, of one state? thanks in advance.

the gps should work everywhere.
Some millitary installations may jam the gps signal, so if you live next to one - you may have problems getting this working..
I have a very detailed map of NY state which takes ~ 1.6Gb on memory stick.. so I don't see any huge problems getting a map for 1 or few states..
