Im not sure about the rest of Europe but the UK is one of the worst in the world for being ripped off

The current frenzy to get hold of Nintendo Wii Consoles highlights that you need to pay well over the odds to get one unless your very lucky. Divineo UK have them in stock at £269 (http://www.divineo.co.uk/php/affstart.php?affcode=arboretum&prod=wii-wii) which yes is expensive but Amazon prices start at £300 and much higher.

Importing Consoles such as the Nintendo DS and PSP/GP2X will give you no problems whatsoever as they are worldwide region apart from UMD Movies on the PSP.

I myself prefer to import from the likes of Play Asia who have the US Version Nintendo Wii (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-2pz-71-bt-49-en-84-j-70-1q86.html) in stock at $399 which is £192 with shipping youll pay say £220 at most and use airmail if possible to avoid nasty customs charges or ask Play Asia to lower the value if you do get charged.

Yes if you buy a US Version Nintendo Wii and live in Europe/UK your stuck with US games but being as US Games are half the price of UK Games thats not a Problem.

The Same Can be said for the PS3 which SuccessHK sell for £206 (http://www.superufo.com/product_html/Playstation_3_PS3_40GB_Console_White__Jap_version_ .html?aff_id=24) and slightly more for the White 40GB PS3. Games are worldwide region free and as before with Nintendo Wii games they are much cheaper as US Versions.

Dont be ripped off and dont be afraid to import but always ask questions of seasoned gamers ;)

I am a UK expat living in Sweden and I can tell you that you do not know how lucky you are! Games and consoles cost more in Sweden and Denmark and take longer to get here. The second hand market is a bit over-priced here too.

If you import a console, you dont get any kind of free repair service do you, or something?

Not sure.

I have no qualms on importing and do it quite regularly, but everyone I talk to say they won't due to having no warranty.

im surprised the Wii can sell for so much.

I didnt have any trouble getting one at launch for the RRP of £179

Surely nintendo could rectify these inflations… unless it is not the resellers upping the price that is

yeah it's freakin ridiculus but true at least the last time I checked,
It started from $10000 mex
A friend just told me, now is around $6000 mex

edit: most likely, no one buys it and they have to go down

Cheaper buying from the likes of argos.

Also you have power issues with importing and have to get converters and crap.

No thanks

* I would agree with Importing games however

from the uk should get a clue,
Wii in continental EU is around 250 (including VAT) euro, still more expensive than in the US but less than the UK prices, and besides that we dont have a shortage here, simply do mail order from mainland EU and you are set, no hazzles with no warranty etc... and no problem finding one!

Yup, yup, the UK is not getting all that ripped off. I remember those high prices from the last time I visited. Around $3500 Mex for a PS1 (When you could get them for ~89.99 in the US)

Also to notice is that the UK currency is stronger than the dollar(In the recent few years) and in general the standard of living is higher than in the US, while in Mexico and latin America it's the contrary. High prices, low wages >:[.
