Circus (http://playeradvance.org/forum/showpost.php?p=159428&postcount=1) has released what is an exceedingly interesting new homebrew app for the Nintendo DS.

http://c1rcus.free.fr/images/screen02.png

This app is a clone of the Pictochat Software that comes bundled with the Nintendo DS but this homebrew variant uses Wifi to connect 2 DS consoles together using the IP Address (you need to know that bit)

So basically you have a text/chatroom that you can contact people worldwide.

I assume both people have to have this software though right? Or does it emulate pictochat somehow? I don't see how it could trick the other party into thinking something was locally connected so I'm guessing both people have to have the software, which doesn't make it nearly as cool.

Cool.

But be warned - you are not going to pick up hot chicks by using this as a means of communication. I repeat - This will not get you hot chicks!

I've always wanted something like this for my DS. He's done this quite well. Good job Circus.

This is great, Pictochat was always a program that needed wifi support. The fact that this is homebrew means we could see lots more new features added too, a built in friends list, a file sender (imagine sending your favourite ds app to your friend wirelessly), even microphone support(!). I'd love to see this project develop, it's already more useful than the built in chat app.

Great program, but I was wondering if you could make a homebrew pictochat client that can load images from your SD card into the message box. It would be really cool to make some black and white pixel art and load it into pictochat to make all of your friends think your a pictochat savant. :)

"Fail in the application's initialization due to wrong configuration. Application's reinstalation may fix the problem".
:(

Does it require some runtime installed, like VB or Java?
I'm running windows XP SP2.

Also, only 2 DSs can communicacte?

I got this same message, in English, it says:

\woctochat0.1\Server\Server.exe

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I'm installing it now, hope it works. It looks like a very promising homebrew (I've wanted something like this for a long time) :)

Looks great. If I knew more people with DS's id start a server, but I dont, so I wont.
If somebody was willing to host a couple of dedicated, it would be good to see some IP save slots to quick-launch to...
Or better if enough people used this to have a server and a sniffer to see who is open at the time.
