Windows Phone has been struggling for market share, largely due to a serious lack of developers willing to invest their time (http://slashdot.org/topic/bi/microsoft-considering-android-app-support-for-windows-report/) in what one might consider a niche market. Statistically speaking, Android has more than 1.1M apps (http://www.appbrain.com/stats/number-of-android-apps) to Windows Phone's200,000+ (http://www.pcworld.com/article/2080804/windows-phone-store-passes-200-000-apps-so-lets-make-them-better-microsoft.html). Well, according to unnamed sources informing the Verge, Microsoft may soon integrate/allow Android applications into both Windows and Windows Phone (http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/12/5404098/microsoft-considering-android-apps-on-windows)."This follows the recent debate over whether Microsoft should try to fork Android (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/feb/07/satya-nadella-mobile-windows-phone-android). Peter Bright made the point that doing so would be extremely difficult (http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/02/neither-microsoft-nokia-nor-anyone-else-should-fork-android-its-unforkable/), and probably not worth Microsoft's time. Ben Thompson has an insightful post about how Microsoft's real decision is whether to focus on devices or services (http://stratechery.com/2014/microsofts-mobile-muddle/).
