Hello everybody, i'am new on this forum and sorry for my english, i'am french :p

I'am coming to get some help about making a map, because in french forums it seems they don't know my problem.

So here it is:

I just want to create a map of my city. I followed many tutorials that was the same.
Here is the list of what i did:
- I launched "Global Map Download Tool.exe"
- I begin by searching my city "Montpellier" in France
- then I zoom a bit to see it well (not to the max zoom)
- i named my map "_MONTPELLIER" in the map name.
- I clic on "Download the map"

and here is the message it give me:

"Something not quite right with this page, change to map view (it's fine if there is no detail)"

same error if i try a preview.
I forgot anything ? I tried by cliking "OSM Mapnik", and GeoData, but same error, always.

So I really dunno what to do now as I can't continue making a map.

Anyone here may help me please?
I really want to make a map.

many thanks!!

Yes, I'm from Singapore and I'm getting the same problem. You can try to switch to "Microsoft Virtual Earth Map", that still works.

I think Google changed something in their maps and in7ane hasn't updated GMDL yet.

gmdl0.5.04b
http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html

Fixes getting x/y from google, something also seems to have broken with user-agent and webclient (in a recent windows/ie update I think), that's fixed as well - but let me know if anyone still has any problems.

i'm having a problem with gmdl.

Basically, i selected my area, downloaded the map, but only AFTER it finished (e.g 2 hrs later), it told me the map could not be found or something, and it deleted the directory.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Cheers

This happened before, I think it's because Google changed some digit here or there. Try matching the URL of an image from actual Google Maps with the URL in GMDL (top left IIRC).

what do you mean by top left IIRC? I have the same problem, an I need to download a couple of maps to my iphone!

I was pretty bored so I thought I might take a look at the source code for GMDL. I don’t have Visual Studio installed so I was doing a pretty terrible backtrack in notepad.

From what I can see when Google is selected in the map download option an exception caused probably due to some index range error.

This error (again notepad trace) is from the method “private int[] GetNumbers(string page)” under the Google section of the GMdl.cs source. The application (again from what I can tell) is not functioning with Google's new “z=” idea. So in the GMdl.cs source the code is searching for “zoom=” instead of “z=” hooray for Google!

I think the initial start of the problem is at the line which reads “int start = page.IndexOf("zoom=");” and then stems from there. There may be other problems but at this point I gave up on notepad.

SO… This leaves the following conclusion, in that Google changed something, and fudged our wonderful program. However, I could just be completely wrong as I only browsed through the source very quickly.

I might install Visual Studio later tonight and have a crack at a quick fix. I'm not sure how In7ane would feel about this tho :S

I'm having the same problem. Something in google has changed. I worked fine 2 days ago. I guess we can wait for a new version of gmdl.

Another question.. Are there any way to get the geodata from googlemaps?

This module of GMDL never works for me!

Figures- I have been waiting to get this app until we arrived in Australia today, I have spent several hours of my vacation trying to get this app to work right so I can copy maps for Brisbane, after messing with this forever I finally figure out that it's not a problem with me, it's a problem with google changing something grrrr... This sucks, not only do I have to get used to driving on the opposite side of the road and all these turnabouts, but I don't know where I'm going--- Please help!

this program seems to use Internet Explorer engine to show pages of the maps

can anybody try using this program with Internet Explorer 6 instead of 7 installed? or even trying with IE 8 beta?

I can't install IE6 here, but if somebody could... just to see if this works!

Same problem here. It was working last week but now it's giving this message with both 0.5.07a and 0.5.06b.

Yesterday, I tried again, and I finally can make map by GMDL through Microsoft VirtualEarth Map, but not the google one. I use IE6 for Windows XP SP3.
Now, I have my map of Vancouver. Thanks a lot to Deniska and In7ane.
But, when I try to make a map of Beijing China(my hometown), the Microsoft VirtualEarth Map can not help. Becouse there is no detils in the created map. I really need the feature of creating a google map by GMDL.

i am using the GMDL tool 0.5.10b build 18873. When i first started using this, it worked just fine. Now after a few days, it no longer works! i can browse, but when i try to preview or download a map, the images dont show up, they just do that red "X" thing. i have tried yahoo and Microsoft's VE, but Yahoo has that "Something not right" error, and MSVE just says, Service unavailable: Server name could not be resolved
The address of the requested server could not be resolved to an IP address. Please help!:(

same thing here... no preview and the folder after download are empty.

these are for google map and google map maker. I didn't try other maps except openstreet which works perfectly.

by inspection, I found that there are slight difference in the url of files in the preview with the webpage, like sample below.

from http://maps.google.com/:
http://mt1.google.com/vt/v=w2.99&hl=en&x=583&y=876&z=11&s=Gal

from gmdl:
http://mt1.google.com/mt/v=w2.99&hl=en&x=583&y=876&z=11&s=Gal

from these sample, the actual difference is the letter "v" from /mt/ of gmdl.

and for map maker, the urls are quite different...

from http://www.google.com/mapmaker:
http://gt3.google.com/mt/n=404&v=gwm.1072&x=583&y=876&z=11

from gdml:
http://gt2.google.com/mt?n=404&v=&x=583&y=876&zoom=7

culangot, thanks for the tips.

in7ane, I've fixed the downloading problem for the Google Maps and MapMaker (I hope you don't mind).

All of you that are getting error, you can download the GMDL with this fix from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/119162321/33cef3dd/gmdl0510bbuild27199.html

Note: it's only a new build since the real developer of GMDL is in7ane and the real site to download the versions from GMDL is http://www.in7ane.com/psp

Yes, thank you. Too bad it's stuck in Google Maps and you can't switch to Yahoo Maps or MS VE ... Google is useless for some countries (like my own) except for the main arteries and city names. Hope this too gets fixed. Thanks.

Edit: Why did you delete my previous comment ?

DSpider, who's your location? I've tried some options in GMDL and as I could see most of them are working. So... will wait for your answer to run some tests here.
