HMV can see the writing on the wall. Nobody buys CDs now. Nobody. But everyone buys games! Putting the two together, the British retail giant has announced that as CD revenues drop by an estimated 10% per year, they'll be replacing them on the shelves with more games. But they'd best get a move on; Britain's specialist "high street" retailers have been dropping like flies over the past year or two as the market for store-bought CDs and DVDs falls through the floor, and if HMV can't win the punters over with games then they'll soon be following.

Well this is dumb, people either buy CDs or they pirate their music. A small portion of people actually put forth the money to buy it digitally. If you cut one hand, more people will look to piracy then to digital downloads.

The internet and the mp3 are killing the CDs. People should support their bands buying the discs, not downloading it illegally.

Well you won't be able to buy the discs when stores stop carrying them. Suppose your 13 years old, and you don't have a credit card nor do you have access to one, and your local stores don't carry CDs any more, what alternatives would you have?

cds are not selling anymore, so they replace the amount of cds they dont sell with games to keep their profits and income at the same level. Its not HMVs fault that you dont have a card to use on the internet but thats the way its going so get used to it. no everyone thinks, i cant get a cd ill download it illegaly. there not stopping stocking the cds they are just reducing the amount of cds on sale in store you can still order them in from the desk if they dont carry the one your after like they have always done.

this is just a smart business move.

not many people buy cd's anymore, there better used for handouts at concerts.

hmv's prices are uncompetitive in comparison to online retailers, the fat that cd sales are falling all round is only one aspect of the problem. People aren't prepared to pay £13.99 for a new album when its £8.99 on amazon. End of story.
They're not competitive for games either so unless they start improving might as well start digging a grave now.
