Problem I've got with this (I reported the smae news on my site earlier) is that the screenshots look fake - would Sony really use that button/image for the radio?

Seems a little odd to me.

I will stay with the custom firmware, nothing great for me on this version.

I'm not too sure if these pictures are that reliable unless someone can prove me wrong. Sony's PSP XMB normally only has plain white icons not coloured. Can you provide the link to these as you are requested.

Not really, the RSS Channel has coloured icons depending on what channels you have.

The link (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20071212/sce.htm)'s already there..

I think it's real, check the Japanese Playstation site (http://www.jp.playstation.com/psp/update/ud_01.html) too.

Sony continues to mimic the many innovations spawned from the talented coders in the PSP homebrew scene.

We've had PSPRadio for quite some time. Better late than never. If this is true.

May be true, but I think we're all very happy they're doing that. Personally, I hope it is possible to switch the somewhat strange brushed-metal look of the radio player to something more pleasant to the eye. Something like a built-in PSP one with no third party logos inside.

I'm also believe that there might be ads displayed at some point, coming from the radio stations, to help them finance it all. At least I think that'd be a nice idea. Not that I like ads.

I was really hoping those screenshots were faked. I thought something like internet radio would be built into the already very nice music player we have in the firmware. Instead we get this boring brushed metal theme that was done to death five years ago. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I read about internet radio in the firmware I imagined a very simple menu where you select a station and it switches to the music player, not unlike how streaming podcasts have worked since version 2.60.

I guess in the end it might be more convenient than running PSPRadio, but the theme looks awful in contrast to the rest of the PSP firmware which thus far has remained consistent.
