This time from IGN:

Sony Japan announced today plans for a year-end firmware update for the Japanese PSP that will add some major functionality to the system just in time for Christmas.

On 12/18, Japanese PSP owners will be able to download the version 3.8 update. This update adds the following features:

BB Mobile Point Demos
When in the vicinity of an access point for Yahoo BB Mobile Point, a paid wireless internet service that's available at 3,500 retail and public locations throughout Japan, you'll be able to access the PlayStation Spot retail download service directly from your PSP. This will give you access to demos of upcoming games. This service appears to be available even to those who aren't subscribers to the BB Mobile Point service, as you won't be prompted for an SSID/WEP key, ID, or password.

Record Television Programs
Those with the PSP's 1seg tuner will be able to record television programs to their Memory Stick Duo. Some programs will allow you to flag them in advance for recording as you browse the 1seg channel guide. Once it's done recording, the PSP will automatically enter sleep mode. This feature will not allow you to record multiple programs at one time, nor will you be able to watch a program while recording another. Game and internet functionality of the system will also be inaccessible during recording sessions.

Internet Radio Compatibility
You'll be able to listen to streaming internet radio broadcasts through an Internet Radio Player.

Two of these features appear to be specific to the Japanese market, so we'll have to wait for official announcement to see what's in the 3.8 update for regions outside of Japan.

Record favorite Television shows huh? That would be neat. Come on SONY and SanDisk, hurry up with that 32GB high-capacity, high-speed PRO Duo memory stick.

SONY could easily steal some of the market share away from Apple with their phenomenally successful iPod line, if they would give the PSP a LOT of storage potential. The PSP is a superior multi-media device, firmware updates are far more frequent and feature-inclusive than iPod updates, and more and more younger demographic are finding the PSP Slim more appealing.

It will be good to see some new fetures before christmas, but i'll update to this once this has become a CFW, I wouldn't be able to use it without homebrew.
