You might need to give a little bit more details.

-What kind of GPS-receiver did you purchase?

-What PSP do you have, and which FW?

-Which version of Mapthis do you use?

-Did you check the configuration in Mapthis?

Try to read the startersguide on the forum, it really helps you to get your mapthis up and running.

There's also a readme in the ZIP-file of Map-this you downloaded, also try to read that first

EDIT: INstruction-movie on how to get Mapthis! running (http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=vlDV1cwF7l8)

And how can I put in a street and city I want to drive?

Do you have Mapthis already up and running then, and do you see satellites in the "GPS Info"-mode in the main-menu of Mapthis?

If you don't have got Mapthis! running, there is no reason to explain how to get directions.

Well I don´t find anything that helps me. The only thing I can guess is a hardware problem? :confused:

Try to turn off your WLAN switch before you go into GPS mode and see if it helps.

I've never understood why turning off the wlan switch would help. Can someone explain that?

ich˛: if you know someone else with a PSP, you can check your GPS receiver there. Be sure to copy exactly what you have on your memory stick, or just put your memory stick in that other PSP. If it does work, hardware problem, if it doesn't, software problem.

Picked it up somewhere but haven't tried it myself. If it doesn't help nothing's lost

I turned the WLAN off but doesnt help. Why try another PSP? Is mit GPS Reveiver broken?

Nieko

If you don't know what's wrong, you'll simply have to eliminate possibilities. If your receiver is indeed broken, it will also not work on another PSP. If it does, however, then your own PSP is probably "broke". (This may still be a key issue, search for Chilly Willy's Key Cleaner to solve that issue for PSP-290 receivers.)

Oh, what I said in the post above was a bit too simple. If it does work on another PSP, your own PSP may be at fault, not your GPS receiver.

Where can I get the Cleaner. Do you have a link?

Put the program in GAME150 or GAME371 or try to change your kernel settings in recovery mode.

ich˛: what exactly doesn't work? A simple "it doesn't work" really isn't enough. I think it'd be best to give an exact description of what you're doing. E.g.:
1. Put mapViewer directory in ms0:/PSP/GAME371/;
2. Changed system/config.txt to reflect my GPS receiver;
3. etc.

ich˛

mapViewer is in ms0:/PSP/GAME371/

What should I edit in the Config File?

if you're using 0.5.20 version try to look in your config.txt for ENABLESERIALPORT, it must be 0 for psp-290..

Enableserialport=0

Does not work!

Can you see in the "GPS-Info" that the GPS-state is "on"?

If it does: Where do you test for the connectivity (i.g. in your house, outside)

If you test it inside your house, try to go outside, and be patient, it can take a while for the PSP290 to see some satellites, and to get a fix.

I testet it in house on the streets in bus :confused:

Yeah. I got it to work. Don´t know why but it does work.

Is it possible to make a map where I can enter the City and Street name and it navigates me there?

^^^

only if you're in the U.S i think. You get something called GEO DATA.

I'm in the UK so i dont know how it works properly. I assume it's quite simple to set up.

P.S

best way to get sattelites is this:

go into your mapthis software. Choose your map, e.g myarea

when it loads up and you're shown your map on the screen, press SQAURE on your PSP. You'll go into: ''GPS ON'' mode. Make sure you're outside your house. You wont get a good signal inside your house. If you're in an open are it's better rather than a forrest etc.

Then press START, go to GPS INFO. Watch the sattelites slowly but surely find you.

When they do, go to the option above GPS INFO, and tap X. It'll read your position and show you where you are on the map.

Simple :)

I´m from Germany so there is no Geo Data :(

Will it be possible in the future?

I will try it with "http://getroute.nieko.net/"

Just open the createt file and press square right?

You can download route files (which are POI files) through http://getroute.nieko.net/, which you can open using POI lookup. You don't have to press Square, as that enables GPS mode.
