Samsung has unveiled its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at this year’s Mobile World Congress. (http://www.pcr-online.biz/events/read/mobile-world-congress-2014/033047)
The new handset features a fingerprint scanner, much like the one found on Apple’s iPhone 5S. While it can be used to unlock the device, it has another function that isn’t included on Apple’s flagship: It can be used to authorise PayPal transactions online.
The fingerprint scanner could ‘lead to the end of use names and passwords’ said Samsung at its Unpacked 5 event.
The smartphone features a 16MP camera with 4K video capabilities, 5.1-inch display, 2.5GHz Quad-Core processor, 2GB of RAM and a battery that can last 20 per cent longer than the Galaxy S4’s.
Having already announced the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/mwc-2014-samsung-gear-2-first-wearable-tech-powered-by-tizen/033317) smartwatches the day before, Samsung unveiled a third piece of wearable tech along with the S5.

The Gear Fit is designed to act more like a fitness tracking band rather than a smartwatch. The display curves around your wrist and is lighter and more compact than the Gear 2. While it doesn’t have a camera, it does tell the time and have pedometer and heart rate monitor apps.
