One of the creators of Konami’s Castelvania: Lords of Shadow 2 has lashed out at some of the game’s reviews.
OXM (http://www.totalxbox.com/72503/mercurysteam-boss-slams-lords-of-shadow-2-reviewers-for-lack-of-honesty/) has had a go at translating a piece on Eurogamer Spain (http://www.eurogamer.es/articles/entrevista-enric-alvarez-esto-que-ha-pasado-con-castlevania-es-totalmente-injusto) in which game director Enric Alvarez says that the “specialised gaming press [lacks] professionalism".
Added Alvarez: "[You can say] 'I do really like the rock but I hate the opera', [but] this is an opinion, not an analysis. If I had to do an analysis of Don Giovanni, [I] would not even know where to start. There's a lack of honesty in the gaming press.”
In for particular criticism was Edge’s 4/10 review (http://www.edge-online.com/review/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2-review/).
“[It’s] totally unfair,” he said. "One must be blind or stupid to give it a 4/10 for a game of this quality. With a 4/10, people interpret it is a crappy game, badly done, it breaks, with mechanics that do not work, with some awful graphics."
Alvarez also concedes, however, that "that in the end it is an opinion, and [an] opinion is totally respectable” although he adds that readers should “not confuse a review and analysis".
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow currently has a Metacritic score of 62 per cent on PS3 (http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2) and 70 per cent on Xbox 360 (http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2).
