Well another studio down. Maybe I was right? Blu ray is just better. HD will die a slow death. It's what I predicted a year ago. Now with Warner's down for the count with Blu Ray. That makes it easier for Wal-Mart to push Blu Ray. And whatever Wal-Mart pushes - wins. Hd better start giving out those $120 million dollars checks to stay alive. Maybe they can give me some so I can give it to my Make-A-Wish charity, just to shut me up. Have faith people Transformers will come out in Blu-ray one day!

I must have missed the report but I dont get how you can say blueray is better.
Disks cost more to make, no backward compatibility, very stupid DRM.... HD allways seemed to make more sense to me.

The only reason I can see movie studios thinking Blu-Ray is better is that is has the extra layer of DRM.

They use the same codecs, Bay is just talking out his ass as usual. Go back to school and learn how to direct a film. Throwing FX at crap isn't directing.

Everyone is talking about the HD camp paying of studios to go blu-ray only, It seems to me all this pro Blu-Ray talk is either due to the extra DRM or its sony who's paying people off.

Its a crappy day for those who want a cheap, high capacity optical media for PC backups.

EDIT: What's with DCemu today, it seems to be working ok then goes seriously slow, then back to ok again. All other sites are fine for me.

No the Blu-Ray Disc Association has played fair. Microsoft, in fact, payed out Paramount to drop Blu-Ray in favor of HD-DVD. And, from Michael Bay says, Microsoft didn't do it because the company though HD-DVD was better, but because Microsoft needs time to develop its download service, in essence, buying themselves time.

LoL do you really think Sony can afford to pay people off right now?

They did, Warner, do you think a company that made their movies better on HD DVD then Blu Ray decided one day they were wrong? The reason their blu ray releases didn't have that was because they couldn't support it. Sony obiously paid them out, F9z, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, stop talking like Bay.

The companies go where they feel they'll make the most money, Sony didn't buy them out. If you looked at the Bluray vs HD-DVD chart, you'd realize that Bluray is outselling HD-DVD...

EDIT: Here, do you see HD-DVD outselling Bluray on this chart? I don't.

Naturally, people are going to buy the HD format for which they have the player. Therefore, its only expected that people buy far more Blu-Ray then HD-DVD, since the 8 mil (correct me) sold PS3 is, well, 8 million. if MS had originally put an HDDVD player into their 360, given its year headstart, the ball may have been in HDDVD's court.

But its too late for them. I guess its for the better though, a 360 would've been $600. :/

Then why did they say they weren't paid?

Actually, many people forget that Sony have other enterprises other than PS3's and PSP's - and the PS3 is far from a failure - it was quite hard to get hold of one at one point near Christmas.

However, I don't think they were bought. If you take a look at that chart, it just shows they feel that there's a greater market in selling Blu-Ray disks, as it seems more people have players.

I know that, I'm just saying that their already losing money on PS3 so why would they spend more on 'bribes'.

They do make some kicka** laptops (Vaios, I suck at spelling) They're TVs, however....

But yeah, the rest of the Sony corp probably will take some of the slack. I'm gonna suppose that if console sales are making them lose money, that they will be heavily relying on game sales to make up for it, correct?

I never said they didn't pay em, and you need to put in the production costs. Sure it might outsell, but considering how HD DVD costs less, on the production line and in the editing room, it evens out in the end.

Its only popular in Japan for 2 reasons:

1. PS3 is crazy their
2. Japanese have their own weird porn, tv shows, etc that are only in Japan which are being released onto Blu Ray because people have PS3's their, the cheapest Blu Ray player. And the closest formwat that could meet their um "needs"

It costs less, sure, but Blu-Ray has long had the majority of support in Hollywood, which indicates to me, that features, not cost, is the deciding factor for why Blu-Ray was chosen. From what I have heard around here, Blu-Ray discs have better DRM protection, which is something movie studios (and if Blu-Rays are ever used for music) music studios would prefer.

And besides, I think the price of Blu-Ray discs have come down quite a bit. Just a few weeks ago I looked around at Amazon.com and there were a few movies that were more expensive on HD-DVD than on Blu-Ray...

Studios like Fox and Diseny haven't released good titles on Blu Ray other then Die Hard, but thats not enough to say those studios are helping out.

Blu-Ray is winning, and has been, so these companies must be doing something right.

The two formats are equal in performance.
The difference is available content.
Right now Blu-Ray has about 70% of the content on the market.
This is why sales are so high for Blu-Ray.

Blu-Ray:
Disney
Fox
MGM
Warner
New Line

HD-DVD:
Paramount
Dreamworks
Universal

There is a lot of money involved here.
The quicker the market standardizes the format the better for everyone.

Exactly. Format wars only hurt the consumers in the end.
