A leaked internal Microsoft memo apparently sent by head of the corporation's Games division, Don Mattrick, to his employees, states that the Xbox 360 is on course to become the next-generation console winner.

The memo, originally leaked to and reprinted by Dean Takahashi, also implies that the Xbox 360 is generating more third party revenue that its rivals.
"History has shown that the eventual winner of each console generation was the console that generated the most third party revenue, and according to the most recent NPD data, Xbox 360 generated more third party revenue in 2007 than Nintendo and Sony combined," it stated.

That's a reasonable assumption, but the following years could prove differently.

To think they'd claim they've won when the other two systems have only been out a year.

When it comes to income vs. expenses, MS has all others beat. The third party support is indeed higher for 360 then any other console, ever.

The Wii does have a real danger of plateauing in a year or two.
3rd-party support is laughable, and most of those games are badly misguided in their use of the system's gimmicks, while the "core" Nintendo franchises (Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Smash) have already come and gone, with no new games for any of those franchises in the near future (apart from the New Play Control! Metroid remakes).

Nintendo's only advantage this generation is that they've been profiting on hardware sales from day one, while Sony is still eating about $80 on every PS3 (down from $250+) and Microsoft pissed away a couple billion replacing all of those broken X360's.
