HP has claimed that there is no room for retailer profit margins on tablets.
Speaking to TrustedReviews (http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/retailers-make-no-money-on-tablet-sales), Pascal Bourgat, HP’s VP of Consumer Personal Systems said: “If you ask Dixons ‘Are you making money on tablets?’ they will tell you immediately ‘My friend I will tell you I am making no money on tablets’.”
Bourget said that there are low margins on tablets and their accessories should be a vital part of retailers’ business models.
“A small (tablet) jacket probably costs a few dollars to make but can retail for £25 so there’s decent margin for retailers and for us,” he said.
