Intel has showcased a portable all-in-one desktop PC expected to hit the market this year.
The ‘Black Brook’ desktop design is an all-in-one PC with up to a 27-inch touchscreen display, which can be unplugged from its docking station and carried around like a large-format tablet.
The prototype device, which Intel said it expects to reach the market in a range of consumer devices during 2014 and 2015, was revealed as part of Intel’s reveals at GDC 2014, where it outlined its vision of ‘revitalising the desktop’.
Intel also made a number of other announcements, including:
An eight-core Extreme Edition version of the Core i7 processor based on Intel’s new X99 chipset – said to be the “first eight-core desktop processor [and] the first desktop platform supporting DDR4 memory”.
A 20th-anniversary ‘Anniversary Edition’ of the Pentium processor, including “unlocked” clock speeds, Intel Quick Sync Video and support for Intel 8 and 9-series chipsets.
An unlocked ‘Devil's Canyon’ fourth-gen Intel Core CPU, which Intel advertises as featuring "improved thermal interface material”, “updated packaging materials” and support for the Intel 9 series chipset.
