Dark Alex the icon of the PSP Homebrew Community has today released a new version of his M33 Custom Firmware for the PSP that allows users all the official capabilities from Sony plus the ability to play Homebrew Games and Emulators inc Sonys official Playstation 1 emulator and even back your own games up to play on the PSP and save your UMD Drive from overuse. Todays release has the great feature where you can network update direct from Dark Alexs homepage just like the official firmware.

Spread this awesome news (http://digg.com/playstation/Custom_PSP_Firmware_Opened_Up)

http://digg.com/playstation/Custom_PSP_Firmware_Opened_Up

Alright people, the wait is finally over. Dark_Alex has finally released the highly anticipated custom firmware 3.80 M33 for the Playstation Portable. The full readme and changelog from 3.71 M33-4 (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/3-71-m33-3-popsloader-released-78837.html) is shown below as follows:

3.80 M33
--------

Requeriments:

- Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher. In the future installation using
panddra battery will be released.

Instructions

- Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
- Get the 3.80 sony update from somewhere, and put it in same folder, with name "380.PBP".
- Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.

Changes:

- HEN core: user mode can load now signchecked files from flash.
- recovery: flash1 format will create flash1 directories after format.
This could fix some flash1 issues with the previous versions.
- Network update from dark-alex.org page. By default is enabled.
You can turn it off in recovery (when off, network update will download sony updates as usual).
- Nids resolver for various kernel libraries.

Comments:

In 3.80 sony has changed (again) kernel nids. The nids resolver will resolve a lot of nids from firmwares 1.50-3.60
(traditional nids) to the ones of 3.80 kernel.
In general, 3.71 nids will NOT be resolved to 3.80 ones. However, to compatibilize 3.80 M33 with prx's programmed for 3.71,
a few very 3.71 nids that were found in some 3.71 plugins will be resolved too.
More info about what is resolved in nidsresolver_status.txt.

Thanks to the combination of the nids resolver and the user libraries possibility in kernel mode added back in 3.71 M33-3,
some programs that stopped working in 3.30 M33 may work again now. One of them is PimpStreamer 0.90.

Finally, popsloader plugin from 3.71 will not work in 3.80 M33 due to its system dependancy. A new one will be rewritten for 3.80 M33.

This currently does not work (at least, the homebrew progs that I use) I did try to apply the 1.50 Kernel Addon, but it will only go on to the 3.71 M33 firmwares at the moment...

This does work on both the Slim and fat PSPs

Really thanks. Seeing this, I'm not upgrading. I have a lot of homebrews that only work with 1.5.

I prefer to wait for the 1.5 Kernel support for 3.80 :D

@ dazman - 3.60 M33 can be updated: Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher

As far as the 1.50 eboots go, if they use the two folder system (with one folder having % in it), then these do not seem to work (but this may just be me being special:p)

And I have to agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Shizzy - Many Many Thanks to Dark_Alex & Team M33 for this release

Just in case any of you wanted to know, the battery plugin does work and so you can still create Pandora batteries!

I know this as I updated both my slim and phat psp and found out that 1.50 kernel was not supported, so I created a Pandora battery using the plugin and restored my old nand so I can keep my phat for 1.50 kernel stuff and my slim for 3.xx kernel stuff!

Great work dax and team, thanks.

How bricked is it? Can you access the recovery menu? If you can, the recovery folder in 3.02 OE-A (http://pspnett.com/filarkiv/302OE.rar) in 3.02 OE-A should fix it. Read the readme for additional information. You'll also need the 1.50 firmware update (http://pspnett.com/filarkiv/v1.5%20Firmware%20EBOOT%20(PSPNett.com).zip).

I cannot get the damn 3.52 M33-3 update to work... It just gives me a black screen and shuts down the PSP...

What are you trying to update from? Make sure you first have 3.52 M33 (http://exophase.com/files/psp/3.52M33.zip) installed first, then try patching to 3.52 M33-4 (http://exophase.com/files/psp/M33-1234.zip).

I can't without upgrading to 3.52 M33-3 first. Since that seems to be the requisite to goto 3.71 or 3.80. Each time I run the update the screen just goes blank and nothing happens...

I got it from dark-alex.org, so I don't see why it shouldn't work.

Hi guys, this is my first time updating my PSP with a custom firmware (It's running 3.71 M33 right now), so please help me.

When Dax says to copy the update folder into PSP games, does he mean to copy the files IN the update folder or the folder itself?

Second, where can I find a 3.80 update? Thanks

I don't understand why they would. But you could always try. It'd be cool if they do. You, with your Slim, have every reason to upgrade to this anyway.

3.52 M33-2

As I tried to say earlier, try patching to 3.52 M33-4 (http://exophase.com/files/psp/M33-1234.zip) instead. Also, reformatting your memory stick could be helpful. If not, try restoring the system's default settings / formatting flash1. If that doesn't work either, I'd recover back to 1.50 and re-upgrade from there to get a clean flash, or just re-run the 3.52 M33 upgrade.

As for the UPDATE folder it should be like this: \PSP\GAME\UPDATE
Inside the UPDATE folder you have to put the 3.80 update (you can get it from sony's site) and rename it 380.PBP
Then just run the update from the psp!

Format flash1. It should work perfectly - it needs to be done in 1.50 kernel, and the EBOOT.PBP should be in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE

since the slim cant run the 1.5 stuff 3.8 M33 should make very little differance in what you can run it will only affect what a fat can run as they can run 1.5 and there isnt a plugin for it yet.

Try going back to firmware 1.50 before updating back to 3.52 M33, then the M33-4. I posted the necessary files some pages back.

Alright, I'll give that a shot. If that doesn't work I suppose I'll have to use the Pandora battery to get it back to 1.5.

I thought it was bricked, but it wasn't, had to turn on the PSP, turn it off, and turn it back on again before it'd work.

Using the updates, do I need to put anything else in the M33Update folder or just have the EBOOT.PBP? Also what kernel do the updates need to be run under?

You have to put a 1.50 firmware update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4) named 150.PBP and 3.52 firmware update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1209) named 352.PBP in the same folder as the 3.52 M33 update folder. Be careful not to overwrite the original EBOOT.PBP.

The updates are run under the 1.00/1.50 kernel. When installing from 1.50, you put the updater folder in /PSP/GAME. I think you have to install the kxploitpatcher included first. When patching to 3.52 M33-4, put the updater folder in /PSP/GAME150.

8 GB sticks do seem to be unreliable for homebrew. Glad to hear it's working.

Finally I am on 3.80 M33-2. Network Update feature is awesome. As well XMB seems to be a bit faster (maybe I am just used to my old Apple Cor theme, which is now gone thankfully, got real tired of it).

Thanks for the help everyone :)

Pandora was out of nowhere and was a C&D release, if memory serves me right.

Pandora would have never been possible if the Sony tech at the PSP repair facility didn't leave it in someone's PSP.

Can someone help me plz? I have OFW 3.71 on my PSP Slim. I want to update to 3.80 M33, but whenever I try to, I get this message..

"The Game Cannot Be Started" Error Code (80020148)

I fallow Dark_AleX's instructions, but It just is not working. I have the battery above 90% and its just ughh..

Any help please?

DarthPaul
January 15th, 2008, 01:24
@SerenadeDS: You need a previous Custom Firmware to install this one. To install a Custom Firmware using an Official one you need to downgrade your PSP. And to downgrade it you need a Pandora's Battery. Ask one of your friends with a modded PSP[if you have any] and they'll know what a Pandora's Battery is and they'll help you.

both could work, if you copy the folder itself you'll only have to replace the previous one

for files
http://www.psp-hacks.com/

As for the UPDATE folder it should be like this: \PSP\GAME\UPDATE
Inside the UPDATE folder you have to put the 3.80 update (you can get it from sony's site) and rename it 380.PBP
Then just run the update from the psp!Hi, thanks mike and uruz, so I'm retarded and still am not clear on everything. So basically I copy the update folder into my PSP > Games folder and then I put the official Sony update, renamed 380.pbp, into the update folder too and not put the 380.pbp in the psp > games folder?

So like

PSP > Game > Update > eboot.pbp/ 380.pbp /u235.prx???

Thanks for all the help, It's really nerve wracking this!

I have a QUESTION

I noticed someone had a PSP slim and they said something to effect of "just use eloader for all 1.50 homebrew to work on the slim"

so can I have 3.80 m33-2 on a PSP Slim and use eloader for all 1.5 homebrew??

Anyways. my PSP phat is working 99.9% good just a few issues with 3.80 m33-2 /w kernel 1.5 addon

Sometimes it stops reading my memsticks, especially the bigger ones (4gb 2gb)

thats all i can find!

someone please answer my question! thanks!

i am new to the PSP hacking world and i have just downgraded my mates PSP from its original state at Firmware 2.71 to 2.80 and then back down to 1.50 it is a TA-082...

what i want to know is.. should i keep the PSP at 1.5 or should i upgrade to a Custom Firmware? and if so which one? Because i would like to play iso file games on it...

1.5 is nice but if you want all the bells and whistles upgrade to 3.52 m33 then goto 3.80 m33 then 3.80 m33-2... as you can see for my psp history, mine is just like yours. Everything works perfect now with the 1.50 kernel addon

Oh yea, iso's work, you may want to convert them to cso's because they're smaller. Anywho just put the iso's/cso's in the ISO folder on the root and they appear under the memory stick under games. Works like a charm, I just downloaded God of War chains of olympus demo.. works goooood

Daedelus and Picodrive workin gooood

What's the best homebrew out there in your opinions?? I just got the fruikup or whatever, the skype alternative and im gonna try it when i get home on my wifi!

WILL SOMEONE ANSWER MY QUESTION, I FEEL SO NEGLECTED, TALK TO ME PLEASE lol

Woah... thanks soo much man... your a champion...

just a few things... what do you mean by all the bells and whistles?? like what are some of the things you can do buy upgrading to a Custom Firmware like the ones you listed??

and if all i simply want to do with it is play the iso/cso's just to be safe shud i stick with 1.5??

as far as i know the cso's are compressed iso's?? am i right?? will they run slower then the iso's and will they lose quality??

thanks again ;)

you can use the streaming internet radio player now under the webbrowser menu, there's some other cool things u can do but i dont know all of them.. just more cool menu stuff and features, if anybody wants to list them please feel free

csos are compressed isos yes, they dont run slow for me, i converted them so they dont take up a lot of space on my memsticks (i got 2 4gb's hehe) they work fine, god of war froze one me only once outta the 2329832 times i played the demo

i think u need custom firmware to run iso's/cso's direct from the memstick

okay you've conned me into getting a Custom Firmware lol... do i have to do it in the order that u said?? like go to '3.53 m33' > '3.80 m33' > '3.80 m33-2' or can i just go straight to the last one??

another thing... whats the 1.50 kernal addon do??

oh and can i delete all that stuff on my mem card now like the 'HEN_280' and 'TA082 IdStorage Change' and 'PSP Update ver X.YZ'

djbrotherson

go in my order > PSP PHAT 2.81 TA-082 > DOWNGRADE to 1.5 > UPGRADE to 3.52 M33then 3.52 M33-4 Then 3.80 M33 > 3.80 M33-2 > then add the 1.5 kernel

1.5 kernel allow you to play homebrew that requires 1.5. You know when you download homebrew and it has two folders? one with the name and one with the name and a % at the end example

SNES9x
SNES9X%

homebrew that uses 1.5 kernel is mostly older stuff

the only 1.5 stuff i have is

daedelus - n64 emu
picodrive - genesis emu
pspPDA - hence the name
bookR - text/pdf reader

yea u can delete all that crap

@ carlotta. i had the same code too, used chilly willy etc. in the end i went back 1.5 them via 3.52m33-4 to 3.80m33 (then used the network update to get to 3.80m33-2, amazing!) not overly impressed with the radio (prefer pspradio), but the update over network is sooo cool:D ny idea if this fw can have waves added like 3.71? superficial i know, but hey!....

edit-waves working, gameboot and 0-12 backgrounds tested too. working fine

Okay. I'll warn all of you right off that I am a charity case. After all I just registered on this forum all of 2 minutes ago.

I have a fat (old) PSP and it is currently running firmware v. 1.50. I bought the PSP in HongKong before the US release date and well . . . its been a while since I've used it. I had emulators running on 1.50 but thats about it.

Because its been so long I don't quite know how to go about upgrading and installing a custom firmware. Would one of you mind telling me where to go or what to read so I can upgrade to 3.80 M33?

I'd like to test it out.

Thank you.

Alright first you need to install 3.52 m33. now this is str8 from the read me

PSP 3.52 M33 Installation

1 - If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from "1.50only/" of this download to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME/" and use it.
2 - Once done it, or if you are under any Special/Open Edition/M33, copy M33CREATOR folder to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME" (1.50fw) or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150" (SE/OE)
3 - Download official 3.52 eboot, rename it to 352.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"
4 - Download official 1.50 eboot, rename it to 150.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"
5 - Go to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33 CREATOR". Once finished, it will go back to the XMB.
6 - Go again to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33UPDATE". You'll have to press X to agree to the installation.
7 - When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.
8 - Enjoy your 3.52 M33 ;)

Then you need to install the addon M33-2

Then addon M33-3

Now you download 3.80 M33, install it.
Then dl the addon 3.80 M33-2 and install it.
Would you like me to make you a file with all these in it?

Ashton,

My last post may have misled you. I pretty sure I still need that link from you. My mistake.

Update:

I thought I had found the official eboot files I needed - but 3.52 M33 firmware creator keeps giving me this error "Loading 1.50 firmware . . . PBP signatures don't match."

Anyone know what's wrong? Sounds like I have the wrong eboot file for 1.50.

P.S. - sorry for all the posts in such a short time.
