Markus 'notch' Persson has cancelled an Oculus Rift version of Minecraft following Facebook's acquisition of the VR firm.
Earlier today the social networking firm purchased Oculus for $2 billion (https://www.develop-online.net/news/facebook-swoops-for-oculus-in-2bn-deal/0190928). Founder Palmer Luckey has since said the deal is “a special moment for the game industry” (https://www.develop-online.net/news/luckey-facebook-s-oculus-acquisition-a-special-moment-for-the-game-industry/0190929), but it is not currently clear how central a role games will now play in Facebook's future plans for the tech.
Following the acquisition, Persson said despite having previously held discussions with Oculus on a port, he had now pulled out following news of the deal as “Facebook creeps me out”.
