MrTuto_Alek just gave word on IRC that a 1.50 kernel addon for 3.80 M33-2 now has been released by Team M33. Essentially, this lets you use 1.00/1.50 kernel homebrew on your new custom firmware like you can on earlier custom firmwares. Great news for PSP-1000 users indeed.

Spread this awesome news (http://digg.com/playstation/Custom_PSP_Firmware_Opened_Up)

http://digg.com/playstation/Custom_PSP_Firmware_Opened_Up

Requirements:
A PSP-1000 (fat) with 3.80 M33-2 custom firmware installed. Official firmware will not be able to install this.

Instructions:
- Copy the files in the release to a directory called anything BUT UPDATE
- Move the directory you created to /PSP/GAME/.
- Get the Sony 1.50 update and copy it to the root with name "150.PBP"
- Run the program and done.

Download:
1.50 firmware update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4).
3.80 M33 (http://dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=85553).
3.80 M33-2 patch (http://dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=85614).

Note:
This will not work on the newer PSP-2000 (slim).

Thanks to Exophase.com (http://exophase.com/) for the installation instructions.
Comments on this good news?

Installation:
Download the attached file and open it. The files inside must be placed in the folder /PSP/GAME/UPDATE. If it doesn't exist, create it. A full 1.50 firmware update will also need to be put in the top level / root of the memory stick, and it must be named 150.PBP (check download link below).

I testesd the following 1.50 applications in 3.80 M33-2 + add-on

MVSPSP, CPSPPSP,CPS2PSP - OK
Ruka's Snex9x _TYL - OK
PECP - OK
PSP PDA 1.3.1 - OK
official gpSP 0.9 - OK
HUE (latest) - OK

All then working fine. I dont tested sllep mode because my PSP for some unknow reason aways corrupt flash1 independent of firmware version.

I'll not update yet. Bugs still not ironed out yet.

yes this is a bit buggy. And you can put it in any folder you want. It doesn't need to be in any update folder.

nvmd: ignore my buggy comment for now. I know there are issues but I can't proprly test because I have my 8GB card in my phat, no 1.5 homebrew on my Slim, and dunno where my other cards went off to :P too lazy to swap cards & homebrew around.

but now that I think about it... why would 3.x homebrew ever have trouble with an 8GB card? Perhaps it's time to do a swap and keep the 8GB on my slim...

This is great now I will update my PSP to 3.80 M33. I can't use my PSP unless I have my homebrew on it, I use them more than the games I have got for it and most of them only work for 1.50.

After installing this update on top of 3.80 M33-2 I still can't run most homebrew, the only one I've gotten to work so far is the UMD DAX Dumper, all of the others just freeze on a black screen and turn the psp off.

I've tried reformatting my memory stick but that only got the dumper working. I guess I'll just have to stick to official games for now.

For all of those who this isn't working for. Do not put this in game/update. put it in game/Whateverthe****youwant.

The author of this is completely wrong.

Well, this isn't working for me. GAME/UPDATE yields a corrupted icon, GAME/other name yields startup, then freeze at the PSP logo
GAME380/UPDATE yields the same freeze at the logo.
Has anyone else faced the same issue, or does anyone have any advice?

EDIT: Turned off music.prx and now it works. This is the second issue I've had related to the various plugins of the music.prx...would like to see something done about that, but it's a minor issue at best. In the mean time, I'm glad to have my homebrew back, thanks again to DAX and M33

Ok People Dammit, Im Tired Of Hearing All These Psp Problems So Check It

1. Download Update
2. Obtain 1.50 Eboot And Rename To 150.pbp
3. Place 150.php On Memstick Root
4. Place The Files From The Update In A FOLDER IN The Game380 FOLDER
5. Name The Folder In Game380 To Something Else Other Than "update"
6. Run Updater From Game Menu

Done!

I don't think so because PSP Slim owners can't use this addon. But, I don't have wireless access so maybe you can try it out.

the 1.50 kernel addon for 3.80 m33-2 will not work with PSP SLIMS

I heard you can use eLoader to run 1.5 homebrew for slims though... can anyone confirm this???

January 15th, 2008, 21:19
Wow so if the 1.5 kernal add on comes one day after 3.80 M33, then why didn't DarK_Alex just wait another day. I thought 3.80 would be more complete and working 100% but now it is but it would have been nice to have it all at once.

Ok, at last I updated, and so far so good.

My testing

snes9x 0.42me - works
Gpsp 0.9 - works
nesterJ - did something weird but it started fine afterwards
HP48gx calculator emu from Zx - works
Fastloader (I use it to rip my UMDs) - works

As for plugins
cxmb - no longer works, psp wont even start (I just use it, so I can have a custom gameboot)

hold plugin - works
screenshot plugin - works

So I'll just miss my beloved slash & blood gameboot

"pspnet_ap_dialog_dummy.prx" and tells me there was an error, then exits... I thought maybe it had worked, but pandora battery installer and PspTools v0.1a dont work. gives me an error "80020148"... any help?

What does the "Game folder homebrew" option in the recovery menu do?

There are two options: "Currently: 1.50 Kernel"
and
"Currently: 3.80 Kernel"

I have not installed the 1.50 kernel addon yet, but I thought the above option was used to enable 1.50 kernel homebrew, no?

testing:

all homebrew works for me
sleep mode DOES NOT WORK ON ALL HOMEBREW... STILL!!!
only works on umds and playstation games.

I would really like to know how to fix this because it is starting to piss me off.

and don't give some BS answer like "well, some homebrews cannot go into sleep mode' I KNOW THAT! things that used to go into sleep mode with firmwares lower than 3.71 don't come out of it anymore, like gpsp 9.0.

I updated to 3.80, and did all the updates to try and fix this problem, but it still does it.

someone told me to reformat flash 1, but that caused a few features not to work anymore.

I will try another memory card, see if that works.

EDIT: I can get games out of sleep mode, as long as the psp has only been off for less than 5 seconds.

EDIT AGAIN:All I had to do is reformat the stick? oh well, it works now.

DAMNIT: still does it, worked for a while there.

DAX said this was going to be a problem before this was even released.
Don't be pised. Either give it time, or fix it yourself.

On another note, many problems may also be because of $ony's 'optimizations' to the FAT driver... there's a whole other thread on the news page that talks about this.

I have fixed the mistake now. Sorry about that, but it was said even in the IRC chat. No need to go to attack on me.

The option in the recovery mode is to choose which kernel everything in the /PSP/GAME/ folder will run with. If it's set to 1.50, everything in it must be in the 1.00/1.50 format, other things won't work. You will still need the 1.50 kernel addon, and you're best off having the GAME folder's kernel setting to 3.80 and put all 1.00/1.50 homebrew in /PSP/GAME150.

I also noticed thay cxmb no longer works.

The slash and blood (prince of persia) game boot works though if you flash it and overwrite your original psp gameboot. :D I've done it and it works fine (where as on 3.71 it didn't for some reason which is why I was using cxmb in the first place). I haven't got any custom fonts though - and I'm using Sonys offical theme changer.

1.5 addon read as corrupted data on my psp i follow the advice of bro darkrave?

January 16th, 2008, 13:00
okay ive done everything exactly how the instructions have said...

I have FM 3.80 M33-2 and ive made a folder inside GAME380 called 1.5 Kernel which has the 4 files in it for the kernel updater... and then i also renamed the official 1.5 update to 150.PHP and its currently in the MP_ROOT folder

now when i go to run the 1.50 Kernel Addon i click X when it asks me to then i get a message saying 'Incorrect or Inexistent 150.php at root'

why is this happening???

Sisarius
January 16th, 2008, 14:37
Take the 150.PHP out of the MP_ROOT folder and put it in the root of your memory stick. Where you see the PSP folder, Video, and Music that will solve your problem...

It will replace it. When you install 3.80 M33-5, no 1.50 kernel homebrew will work before you install this, as the old one is incompatible and is deleted under installation.

Blackrave it still works fine. I think it doesn't touch the files whatsoever for the 1.50 subset so it continues perfectly or Dark_Alex has developed the new updates to be compatible with the subset.
