The latest firmware for your PSP has now arrived, heres whats new:

Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.
Skype has been added as a feature under Network.* (Only for PSP-2000 series.)

Available through NETWORK UPDATE but remember that homebrew wont work on this official firmware for now. For those who do upgrade let us know your findings

Another firmware especially for the hackers to play with, wonder how long this one will take before it's cracked. :)

I also would really like the Skype feature on my Slim PSP. However, my biggest hope for 3.90 is that SONY fixed the memory stick driver which is causing all sorts of problems in 3.80.

Its still unclear whether SONY messed with it on purpose to dissuade people from using CFW for playing game backups. I don't see why else they would have messed with it.

So DarthPaul, I hear you may be getting a PS3 soon? Keep me updated.

So does Pandora work on 3.90?

bah
January 30th, 2008, 11:12
Pandora kicks in before the firmware is loaded.
I don't believe it is possible for sony to stop pandora working via software, it would take a new hardware revision with a different restore procedure.

I keep reading skype isn't there and if it's not, I don't see the point of upgrading my slim

It would be wiser to wait for a 4.0 M33, this skype thing is not enough to justify hacking the thing.

I would like only the 3.90 pops... I couldn't care less about SkyPE. It sucks on a PC and it will suck on a PSP.

Sony's firmwares aren't useless at all. Without them Dark_aleX would be unemployed:rolleyes:

Sony releases another update huh? Very unexpected. I wonder what firmware version 4 would hold, hope something good is available for owners of the 1000 series PSP by then.

Hopefully it comes with the PS3 update to enable remote play of PS2 titles. DivX is also likely.

What I heard was that Sony optimized the code (the pre 3.80 driver was much bigger in size than the new one). Whether this had anything to do with CFW or they wanted to get space freed up in the flash, I don't know.

Added:

I hope DA and company get cracking on this, I really want to know if they can get Skype working on the Fat PSP.

I think it'll be better to wait until 4.0 to make a custom firmware
Cause this much release of official firmwares sounds to me like an attempt to crack Dark Alex with a bunch of work

Why can't we use text news items straight into the RSS feeds ?

Ive been waiting for this feature.

Huh? Have you not seen the Skype vids that said it was coming out at the end of January?

But 4.0 is rumored to have Divx support, which if the PS3 is anything to go by, also came with VC-1 (WMV) support.

No I didn't actually as I didn't pay much attention about it. Not much point if I don't use the Skype service myself.

Yep, I heard that too. However, IIRC, the size only decreased a few hundred kb, if that. It seems like an unnecessary optimization. I guess I can only hope that one day it is possible to use the pre 3.80 driver with custom firmwares. Unless a vast amount of people using official 3.80 + firmware start complaining, I doubt SONY will change it.

im really hoping for that.... ive talked to a couple people that said it wasnt coming... but then again..they may be pulling my leg :p

seriously....if divx comes out for psp... thats all i would want and it would be the last thing i would really want to update to ( unless its something that REALLY pushes me to update )

*crosses fingers that divx does come out *

Thanks for Everything,

While I agree that DivX support would be monumental, there's loads of things I'd still like to see implemented.

I just upgraded from 3.71 M33-4 to 3.90. messed around with skype for a while but i dont have the headset or the mic to go with it. it works rather well IMO as far as i can tell. called my sisters laptop (which has skype and a built in mic) i was able to hear her talk on my psp. the quality was prety good.

Got bored and downgraded back to 3.71 M33-2 using pandora.

worked fine for.

So have Sony not fixed their memory stick issue in this update ? :(
