Another reason not to buy the slim solved

I'm sure DaX will make it a bit better to avoid that ugly loading screen.

Maybe you can edit it yourself with a different gameboot

I've been away from 1.5 for so long... Can someone refresh my memory as to what's exclusive for 1.5-enabled PSPs? I'm serious.

Its a fake firmware 1.50 didn't have a rss setting icon like psp in the video all the guy did was use a firmware name editor to change the name that shows up to 1.50

where do you see a RSS icon? ( i dont see one anywhere ) i have a psp running 1.5 and everything that he shows is JUST like 1.5.... also...he is running a 1.5 application... so it seems legit

really...i wonder how he did it... but even so its still cool

Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon

p.s. ( the guy who posted the video is a trusty source ;) )

Hold on with Slims having 1.5 kernal won't emulators run alot better with that double memory upgrade, assuming he can get this thing to use the kernal fully and custom firmware one with the kernal?

This is very interesting news. Now the slim just became a whole lot more alluring, although it still lacks the IR port. I guess when the official keyboard is finally released, that won't matter all that much, though.

Yeah... If this stuff of doble memory works it will be great...but if not...i don't know nothing good for 1.50 fw. 3.90m33 is soooo coooool !!!

I know this is amazing work, but since I own the phat I don't know what is 1.5 exclusive and what isn't. Would anyone mind telling me what popular homebrew is 1.5-only?

PCE (the excellent pc engine emulator) doesn't work unless youve got the 1.5 addon (Ive even tried converting the eboot but it still doesnt work).

I wish i had a slim now but dont seem worth it when i have the fat not sure how often i would use the tv out since that is the only feature i dont already have in one way or another.

I feel the same. If I'm near a tv then I'm near a real console so plugging in a psp defeats the point of a handheld. lol

The dpad is suposed to be better on a slim, but this is easily fixed on the phat with a simple mod anyway.

don't forget that the 1.5 kernel can't handle memory cards >4GB. I would think DAX would have taken care of that problem already if he could.

With that in mind... what makes any of you think it would actually use the extra RAM of the slim? The latest homebrew had to be updated to take advantage... it doesn't use the RAM simply because it's there. The only 2 reasons people care about 1.5 is for the IR port (something that simply isn't going to be fixed, unless some hardware company designes a USB IR blaster for PSP, which I wouldn't hold my breath for) and the second reason is all the homebrew that hasn't been updated!

None the less... this is still a very impressive feat. Even for someone who cracks every new firmware that comes out.

If you use >4GB card, you just need to install 1.50 kernel apps FIRST (on the first 4Gigs of the MS space) and then you may copy all other stuff (3.XX homebrew and other) to the MS.

This works for some apps but not all. Some 1.5 apps will just error out. Perhaps partially because they report a huge negative number of free space.

So can anyone elaborate to how this 1.5 slim can be put to a custom firmware now with the 1.5 kernal add on, basically so we can play these emulators using the double memory.

phsychokill
February 1st, 2008, 19:30
people could make the games work under 1.5 for the slim but it will probly take alot of work between the custom firmwares and program makers as 1.5 never had the ram so the firmware wont register it without some intensive programming telling it other wise but this would be simmilar to takeing the mem card limit out of a firmware.

i havent used 1.5 since before slim came out. so help me out here
i used to really want this, but now that its almost here i ask what is the real point?

what with 3.71m33 and 3.80m33... i like some of the features it already has, plus with not being able to load certain umd directly (tho im sure theres a way around this) id much rather have m33+1.50 or even m33 than simply 1.50. what exactly would be so much better with 1.50? what are we missing (besides IR)

and how is this double memory thing you guys are talking about work?

Eviltaco64

Coolie4 - Im sure that 4.00m33 will have 1.50 support for Slim. Im sure its still being tested.

So, a 1.50 kernel is in the works for series 2000 PSPs huh? This is ace, makes me want to save up and buy the slimline handheld right now!

`The0n3
February 1st, 2008, 21:44
Im guessing this is gonna be a kernal addon just like he does for the phats when he makes new firmwares its probably still in testing though.

never thought 1.50 was going to happen on slim i should never doubt dark alex

i knew it was possible, i just didnt think dax would bother, in my eyes this is for more compatibility with older homebrew.

the slim psp has twice as much Ram than the fat psp, which 1.5 is native to.

theres a thread somwhere on lan.st that states that not only does the 1.5 kernel lack obvious features, like wpa encription, wma playback, etc. (unless dax has pathed them in) but is actually slower for things like RAM access than the newer kernels, which would mean slower computing so theres pretty much no point, everything should be released in the 3.xx

i would think in this first instance that 1.5 would be bootstrapped into 3.xx in a similar way that 2.71 was bootstrapped to 1.5 in dax's 2.71se. and i would also think that this would further slow the system down.

1.5 aint far from where it started and the name time machine is really quite adequite! this should be only used for looking back at the past. start coding with it and you would be messing with the timeline

Gotta agree with that. I love this PSP scene and all the possibilities that DAX has given us with CFW. Haven't been this excited since the first console/arcade emus started surfacing for PC's in the late 90's. Exciting times!

I wonder if a CPS-3 (Capcom Play System 3) emulator would be possible if the 1.50 kernal works along with the extra memory available!

its already been released, just go to D_A site or go to the forst page of the post, ive using it now with my 8GB memstick, in 3.90M33-2, and now i have 3 firmware and a pandora in my memstick, cool er??, just read the readme included in the attachment, reading first might lessen the problem.. :)

It's very nice that Dark-AleX released Time Machine but I heard you need to Pandora everytime you want to use it... is this true?? If so, i'd rather just wait for kernel access on the slim

you can already download the v0.1 version here: http://www.dark-alex.org/
and its true that you need a pandora battery but I think you only need it once

I realise this is in the readme, and I apologize if this has already been addressed. But, has anyone had difficulty getting DAX time machine to work with 8 gb memory sticks?

Vaang
April 21st, 2008, 17:41
Let me elaborate on this. I was initially able to get dax time machine working, and successfully boot accompanying firmwares on my PSP 2000. I upgraded to an 8 gig memory stick subsequently, replicated the installation process, and was also able to run 1.50 (+hw modules) and 3.60 firmware on it. But upon filling the stick past 4 gb, i could no longer run DAX TM firmware (excluding my native CFW)... Anyone else had this problem? please help

pandora only works on memory sticks below 2GB. I think the same for Time Machine.
Just buy a 512mb stick & use that for pandora & Time Machine. BTW is there anyway to put a different CFW on TM apart from the one DAX's preset CFWs

nah, it worked on my 4gb, that is a good idea though - regarding swapping memsticks.
