Its been a few days since Dark Alex surprised us with a new release of his excellent Custom firmware for the PSP. Did the release live up to its billing and is everything working or fixed from previous releases.

Its great but since I have my psp phat from march 2005 I think I'll stay with 3.80 M33-5 so I can use IRShell 3.90 Keep it up DAX

To tell you the ruth I think Dax released the cfw too soon. 3.80M33 Had come out not too long before it along with 5 updates within 2 weeks or so. And Pandoras battery does work on it. I used it.:o

Yes, it does. I was playing gPSP like 5 minutes ago on my HDTV. (TV-Out) ;)

Emulators and homebrew works just like it does on 3.80 M33 for you who don't know. Also IR Shell now works too... pretty much the only reason I upgraded to 3.90 M33 is because I have a slim PSP and I can use Skype. Other than that 3.71 M33 is better & much faster with back-ups and themes.

well....so far everything is working great.... and Skype works marviously ( chatted with a few dcemu people :) )...

as people noted.... IR Shell doesnt work so well on it so if you are a phat user who MUST have irshell.... then stay with 3.80 M33

Same here, I'll stay on 3.71M33-4 until a game needs higher firmware to run

i upgraded cause of new games that need new firmware suchas crisis core usa version soon and also super robot wars A portable is coming in june! so updating is always good

3.80m33 popsloader works in 3.90m33, there is 1.50 kernel addon and irshell works with a quick hack.

There is a reason to upgrade to 3.90m33, dax fixed a bug with m33 no-umd mode that halted the console when you exit a game with home button.

It's recommended using m33 driver because sony's no-umd driver slowsdown on some games in 3.80m33 and 3.90m33.

I think that there are enough reasons to upgrade to the latest CFW

Speaking for myself I don't see any reason to upgrade.
I am on 3.71M33 and have no problems.

Is there an option for 3.80 from the popsloader menu?

Some are saying that some ps1 games run fine on 3.80 and not 3.90 or 3.72

Some are saying that some of their home brew does not work.

Upgrading for the sake of upgrading makes little sense.
Upgrade if you need to.

For myself I don't have problems with no umd mode.
I don't want to format my MS because of the new fat driver
I don't need 3.80 or 3.90 pops.

A compelling reasons for me would be:
Full DivX support.
Blu-Ray to PSP (if a firmware upgrade is needed)
A Skype hack for Phat PSP's.

funny, Dgen runs fine for me. with patch applied. i like this new cfw but why is gomessenger not active yet? go to site but says coming soon. apart from that no probs. irshell 3.9 seems to work fine if you patch prxs from attachment below. hope this helps. keep up the goos work Dax and m33 :)

from 3.71 m33 -> 3.80 m33 : everything works fine on my slim

3.90 m33 : irshell now works with patch prxs. when exiting skype, it does not go to XMB. it jus black screen & shut down the psp

I can't use gpsp (the lastest one) in irhsell, it freezes, so does CPS2PSP under irshell.. Skype doesn't load either and if I goto XMB then launch a homebrew from the game menu, its like irshell was never loaded and then the L + SELECT function stops working and I can't go back... I never got Metal Gear Solid to work... how do you guys use popsloader?? I never really needed it till now I guess

meh i went back to 3.80 M33 - 5 because there was a wifi bug on mine. For some reason i think there's also a sleep bug (when sleeping in game, it will reboot when turned on). Seriously hoping that bug is fixed. I do like the effort although i have to agree, he may have released it a bit too early. This could've been a serious mistake but i guess we got lucky for there are very few bugs.

Stuff wont work from Game390 anyway.

You can always just use Game and Game150
Just make sure the Game folder is set to the 3.90 kernel in Recovery.

Honestly I was hoping DAX and company would have found a way of getting Skype working on the fat models. I was greatly disappointed when this wasn't the case, as, to me, it is the only truly useful feature worth upgrading to 3.90.

I do hope, however, they figure out something.

i did the upgrade and now i regret having done it. vagrant story doesnt work anymore. before the update i was playing vagrant story via popstation on 3.80 m33-5. on 3.90 m33 it is stuck at the load screen. what a disappointment.

I like it honestly. I don't use irShell so it's a perfect firmware. My PS1 games seem to be running smoother than on 3.80 too.

The official reason was the lack of free memory on phat. But if it can run Go!Messenger, I don't see why we didn't just get an inferior Skype. One which could call other Skype users/mobiles/landlines, but couldn't handle incoming calls, unless you've launched the Skype option (which forced you to exit the XMB and into the Skype app). From what I've read, Skype on the Slim isn't all that ideal, since your PSP has to be on, and if you're not near a wireless connection (which is quite difficult here) you're ****ed, so you'd probably have to arrange it anyway, meaning it wouldn't be all that different. Then again, I could be talking out my arse, as I'm a mere spectator in this PSP scene, who couldn't develop a sausage.

Furikup's basically a Skype for phat, but it's still in the very early stages, and hasn't really got much of a UI yet.

Does anyone else have a problem with memory usage on a slim? Every time an App or game opens the memory remaining on the card reduces or increases to what seems like random incriments.

With custom firmware 3.90M33 that is.

3.90M33-2 is now stable i guess, as it now support 8GB for plugins that did not resolved in 3.80M33, and now i can use my 8gb memstick without hesitations, before i always downgrade to 3.71M33-4 cause all my plugins there works, but with the new update, my verdict is the best man!!!

I'm getting a awful lot of crashes with sertain things, like my snes emulator, and sometimes on my loved Master System emulator playing Wonder Boy III :(

I'm not sure why things are crashing, but I'm not liking it :(

I upgraded, it works fine after the 1.50 add-on and 3.90m33-2. work all my stuff except nitePR. :( but i can use a different cheat device till 3.90 become avalible with nitePR. :D
