With so many firmwares released these days and updates coming as fast as hell its very hard to keep up with what is the best firmware for the PSP Slim and PSP Phat.

Firmware v1.5 used to be the kingpin although i preferred v1.0 myself but with these days of custom firmwares and so many revisions it will be interesting to hear from the DCEmu Members as to which firmware everyone recommends.

So over to you, whats the best firmware and why ?

3.90 M33- using eLoader runs all the 1.5 homebrew I want (Just Duke Nukem 3d), compatible with all games without using DevHook (Or whatever, I have a slim), and Skype.

i heard rumors that 390 pops fixes the crashes in ff8! havent had time to test it yet

The newest. 3.90M33, it's the greatest so far. Well, I don't know about on the Slim, but it's awesome on the phat

I loved 1.5... to me it was the most amazing thing and i never saw any sense to update due to devhook being able to emulate all the latest :) ( it took me until 3.03 OE came out that i finnaly updated to cfw )

to me.... 1.5 will always be the golden firmware no doubt about it. even today one of my psps runs 1.5 poc-2 :D

1.5 is still the most used and most developed for kernel ( even though that with slim's release its making 1.5 kernel coding obsolete ) but still... there is homebrew out there that requires 1.5 and most of it i love... so unquestionably... my vote for golden firmware once again goes to!

1.5

Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon

P.S. man, discussing 1.5 has brought me back to the good ol days of swaploit, kxploit, wipeout webbrowser hack, ect ,ect , ect.... those were the good ol days :)

Matter of opinion I guess, since no firmware version has it all.

I'd say 1.50 if it could do full screen for encoded movies.

I'd say firmware 1.00/1.50. Without them, you probably wouldnt have cfw.

For me 3.52M33 was the best.

For me 3.52M33 was the best.

100 % agreement :)

3.52 was the best so far .. best custumizing capabilities, great compatibility, no crashed or errors so far, ...

3.71 is good as well, but I personally have a kind of a "strange" feeling using it ... there was so much trouble at first when te CFW came out ... and still I get strange error messages like "unable to copy file to destination folder" or similar when I try to flash to FLASH0 ...

And since I don'T need this new fashionable crap in newer releases, I'll stay with 3.71 for as long as I can ...

But 1.0/1.5 were very good firmares, too! No fanzy features, just the "raw meat" :D

I loved my PSP when it came streight from Japan (a REAL PSP-1000 model ) and I flipped in the UMD of Bleach 2 and later Wipeout Pure!

1.50 does show full screen. You sure you encoded them at the correct resolution? If I recall correctly, it just couldn't show them at the full resolution of UMD movies.

umnnn... to keep this on topic, I'd say 3.71 m33-5 with 1.5 addon (for Phat) and popsloader has been the most stable with the most features... all things considered (such as... slim users never had 1.5).

The most technically astounding? Yet to come! That time machine... 1.5 on the slim will be the ULTIMATE on the achievement scale!

I own both a Phat and a slim so I'm unbiased.

i was stuck on 3.52m33 for a while, recently upgraded to 3.90m33. best thus far. i jumped from 1.50 to 3.53, and now 3.90. although, some se cfw's by dark_alex were awesome. 3.90m33+1.50 subset ftw

What are they benefits from updating to 3.90 from 3.52?

*More options in-game for pops

*You can now update to the latest custom firmware & plugins via the official network update so it save all the hastle
*If you have a slim then you can use the new skype
*You can now use either kerenel or user mode homebrew
*More new visuals when playing mp3s
*Internet radio
*More options in recovery
*You can use the latest emulators by NJ which seem much fast at loading etc

blah blah blah - just more of everything!

Even the xmb is fully customisable

Yeah 3.52 was the best about customizing, 3.71 is not that far behind (just a minor detail, install it through pandora and despertar V3 and you'll be able to flash any file you want, cause that way the files don't appear as hidden)
I just need to update my custom themes but I'm too lazy to do so

Sony made their themes, but I'll always like the waves infront of the wpp
3.71M33-4 4ever. (someday I'll update, just, not right now)

Hey Panini, Thanks for that, I had been wondering!
Could I ask you to list any downsides 3.90M33?

If it matters, I don't run any 'backup' isos, change my XMB, or do any Flashing (except when it's been needed to upgrade to custom FWs, to be honest I just do what I'm told & don't even know what else it's used for, haha).
I just NEED the thing to be able to run POPS, and EVERY Emu flawlessly & IF possible, the newest UMDs.
Cuz when you can choose if you want to fall asleep playing Trojan, Contra hard corps, Snatcher, Kirby's block ball, Vagrant story, or SFEX2...THEN you realize how amazing the PSP is.

I like 3.40 OE-A the best. Its stable and compatible with most old and new homebrew.

I started with 3.71m33 so i never tried lower CFW.

3.71m33-3 allowed me to play castlevania

However, from 3.71m33 to 3.90m33, I seen alot of changes from radio internet and now, skype and future Divx support. I go with the lastest CFW

3.90M33 all the way!

Plays all the emulators flawlessly on 3xx firmwares and all the 1.5 stuff too.

Fully customisable if you want it.

Plays all the pops games fine (I've yet to encounter any problems with my vast array of psx backups), plus its got additional emulator options courtesy of Sony... and not forgetting you can now merge multi disk psx games into one file rather than having loads of converted eboots for each disc (previously you needed cwcheat to load up the next disk/eboot when prompted) - all thanks to DA! :)

Without a doubt this is the daddy of all firmwares so far! :)
