A good way to convert MP3 WAV and other audio formats for free?

Use foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org/). It is free and can convert many more formats. Not only that but it has plenty of plugins to do other stuff.

Foobar 2000 huh? I agree it's an ace program, I use it to convert lots of media in mostly MP4 format at a low bitrate of 31KB/s as I can still have good quality music at a far smaller file size.
