So we have support for Memory Sticks greater than 4gb on 3.90 M33 firmware now. But what about those who are in another firmware?

Dark_AleX released a patch that let's you use the 8gb Memory Stick in any other Custom Firmware. All you have to do is follow the instructions below and you are ready to go.

Warning: Make sure that you know what you are doing. You are dealing with the Flash0 manually, that means you can brick.

Instructions:

- Copy the patch(attached) to /kd folder
- Add the following line in all pspbtcnf*.txt file:
"/kd/mspatch.prx" after the line "/kd/msstor.prx".

Note: You need to install the 1.50 Kernel add-on before installing this patch to the firmware. And remember that you'll have folder km instead of kd in some firwares.

And that's it. Good luck. :)

Forgive this, but is this intended to fix issues with homebrews run on an 8gb card?? Because i'm running 3.51 m-33 and have scads of homebrew on an 8gb card with no issues. The only game i've noticed not working is Super Mini Sonic....but I can live with that. :D

Excellent work regardless.

i have 3.80m33-5 w/1.5 kernel. Do I put it in kd or km.

DarthPaul

Put it in km. Or just take a look and see if msstor.prx is there, put it where msstor.prx is. But I guess that it's in km in 3.80.

You need to install the 1.50 Kernel add-on before installing this patch to the firmware.
Hmm, what if you have a 1.50 kernel custom fw already?

If you have a 1.50 custom firmware already, you're ready to proceed. Just follow the instructions given and that's all.

Sounds great.

I guess it's off to check the MS prices tomorrow then.

So would 3.52 fall under 1.50 kernel custom fw ? Cos I've never had to install an 1.50 add-on for it, yet I'm able to use 1.50 homebrew...

If I am not mistaken 1.50 Kernel add-on is only for 3.60 M33 +

You don't need to patch your 3.52 for 1.50 kernel.

Right, cheers. So do I still copy the mspatch.prx and src folder over to kd, or do I leave anything out ?

I just got my Ultra II Sandisk 8Gb MS. Check pricegrabber for cheapness.

Everything works fine on this one, I had a regular purplish Sandisk 8Gb gave me issues.

i can play homebrew games even without this patch is out with my 8GB original MSPRODUO, but the only problem in 3.90M33 is that i cant use some plugins for it, (popsloader, etc) can someone confirmed if the plugins now working if you patch this one on your flash?

edit:

ooops, theres a confusion out here, the patch is use for any firmware and yoou put it only in you memstick, dis is not the patch for 8GB users who uses plugins, ive seen the trail in the other forum site..

I just bought a 8 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and a sweet new faceplate.

I might install this or just install 3.90 with the 1.5 Addon v2.

I hope I am not alone, but since updrading to 3.90m33-2 FROM 3.71m33-3 I have had problems with my 8gb memory stick only when playing umd and backups and trying to save games... I can load save games okay and play but as soon as Im playing for like even a minute and go to save I get the black screen. and the psp shuts off..

All of my homebrew runs okay on my psp phat with the 1.5 kernal installed so I need some help.

Specifically does anyone have GTA, vice city stories and liberty city stories running okay when you save ... also the simpsons game which I have on umd does not save but freezes...

Thanks,

You didn't apply the patch again did you? It just looks like you don't need to for 3.90 M33.
Maybe something you might have overlooked, otherwise can't help ya, good luck though.

hi, i think you did not install the update 2 of 3.90M33, it fix the problems in the 8 GB memsicks as the update comes with the patch in this thread, or try to reflash if you still dont play the games normally, or if you have class a mem stick, thats one of the problems..

No problem with a genuine Sony 8Gb Memory Stick here.
I had the patch applied ready before I got it.

I've also applied this patch for a mate's PSP, and all is going well
with his 8Gb MKII MSPD.
