So they will be selling PS3's with YDL installed?

Seriously, how are they going to make coin on this?

No-one will pay much when they could do it themselves for free.

Problem is, there are people out there (idiots mainly) who would pay the extra coin to have it preinstalled. Sony could include it in another sku, cut something else (the GPU was supposedly shrunk to 65nm; although no PS3 has this in it yet) and tack on an extra 50 bucks and throw in the DVD. (Bring the manufacturing cost down by 50 or even 100 dollars, add on that, sell it for 500 dollars).

And even then, with it being preinstalled, they could even sell it as a "Computer"; they could easily justify adding to the price that way (and people would jump on it...)

Only way I would pay extra for it to be pre installed would be if they gave yellow dog GPU access.

Well yes of course.

But if there was a way to do it with 'there consoles' there would be a way to do it with 'ours' so again. Pointless.

Seriously, this will fail.

Well, I am not sure; the PS3 was supposed to come with YDL preinstalled (whether it didn't for cost, or time, who knows). It wouldn't cost Sony all that extra to throw it in there and they could use it as leverage to reach into the "computer" market (and therefore garner more sales). Or they could even bundle it on their websites and some other online retailers (like Dell.com or maybe even at Best Buy) with a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse and still earn profits on it.

GPU, Ram and CPU access would be the most important to consumers buying the "PS3 PC" so Sony would have to unlock that or make it more lenient; but the market would probably be very willing to adopt the PS3 as a PC, if Sony marketed it as such.
