Hi All,

For windows users who want to develop on their windows PC, little homebrew for the PSP, without spending hours or days trying to install cygwin and compile the toolchain, this package is for you !!

You have first to install VirtualBox that is freely available : http://www.virtualbox.org/

The version i use is there :
http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/public/psp/virtualbox/

You should then download rar files present here :
http://forum.psp.free.fr/public/psp/pspsdk/

You have to unrar the rar archive in disk1.vdi (you need at least 4Gb of free space on your hard disk)

Then create a new virtual host, Linux 2.6 with 256 Mb of memory, and use the disk1.vdi as a disk image !

This disk image contains a full install of xubuntu 7.4, where the PSP SDK has been already compiled, and several other software added (such as the famous IDE Kdevelop, gcc, SDL etc ...).

After virtually booting Xubuntu, the login name is psp, and the password is psp.

I've written a small PSP project (hello world) for Kdevelop, ready to use.
Then you must create a shared folder called "shared" (to share files between windows and your virtual Ubuntu host) as follows :

Then you can boot xubuntu :

And login using psp as login and password :

If you want to install xubuntu by your own, then you will just have to install the pre-compiled version of the PSP SDK (with gcc-410) :
http://forum.psp.free.fr/public/psp/pspsdk/pspdev-gcc410.tar.bz2

Hope that helps,
Zx

Wow. This seems like a huge contribution to the PSP homebrew scene.

It's a very small contribution ... I've only installed Xubuntu under virtual box, installed the SDK i used and that's all ;)

It's a good thing to make this available.
Same with the precompiled toolchain in cygwin setup tuts.
I've only compiled the toolchain once, and the only other way I've
got an environment set up was by either copying it,
or downloading a package similar to this.

This is nothing short of fantastic. thanks for your help getting things running, ZX.

Now - on to tackle why the second fire button on 5200 games doesn't work in PSPATARI and see if I can fiddle with PSP2600 to get Pitfall II working at a decent speed!

Thank you very much.
Maybe I try to put some old projects back together. I was always afraid of setting this stuff up.

Have virtualbox devs fixed the USB slowness? last time I checked psplink was working extremely slow.. This may be useful for some testing but mostly irritating as you need to wait a few extra seconds to load things up..

USB integration works great. Just enable it int eh virtualbox setup, and choose the PSP Type A, and it's just like having it attached to windows.

Usblink works Ok you can also create a second share to your PSP/Ms folder directly just like the one betwen windows and ubuntu.
The only problem is that you have to have psp connected to run your virtualbox or you will get a share missing error.

You don't have to have your psp connected. Don't set up your PSP as a Share. Just enable USB in teh Virtualbox settings menu. Once VB is running and you're booted into Xubuntu, connect your PSP. It will show up as a USB device just like it does under windows.

Thanks for an excellent helpful disk image (works with latest virtualbox 1.5.4 with no config problems so far!)

I do have a slight problem.....
Any chance you could reveal the root password for the image. I want to update xorg.conf for my 1360x768 widescreen TV resolution but can't at the moment! Also need to set UK keyboard mapping

I'd discovered VirtualBox a few days ago (a really easy to configure 17 MB download) and used it briefly with PuppyLinux but now you've saved me a whole heap of configuration for a full dev environment.

Nice work pre-installing the virtualBox drivers etc.

Thanks for this and all your other psp homebrew work.

Enter the following command in a terminal :
sudo mousepad /etc/X11/xorg.conf

(afaik, there is no root password under xubuntu)

For the keyboard you may have to change the XkbLayout field (set to "uk", i guess) in xorg.conf

Thanks. When prompted for the sudo password use 'psp' of course.

'gb' for the uk keyboard.

Now happily running fullscreen at 1360x768 with an '@' on the right key!
