Linux for Wii Released - The Wii Homebrew Explosion Continues

The Gamecube Linux (http://www.gc-linux.org/wiki/Main_Page) team have today released a Proof Of Concept version of Linux for the Nintendo Wii, heres the release news:


Although we haven't posted any news in the last 2 years, we have silently continued our work keeping the kernel patches up to date. With the latest 2.6.24 (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gc-linux/linux-2.6.24-gc.patch.gz) release we have added support for the USB Gecko (http://www.usbgecko.com/faq.htm) adapter as a console and terminal, so you can now logon into your gc-linux distro using minicom or HyperTerminal (TM). And last but not least, we have finally run natively Linux on the Nintendo Wii through Team Tweezers' twilight-hack (http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=Twilight_Hack). We have released a small usbgecko-enabled Proof of Concept (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gc-linux/wii-linux-PoC-0.1.tgz) mini-distro to prove it. Did I say have fun? :)

that`s awesome, i`m gonna buy zelda next month and hopefully my version is supported by the exploit.

Wow, so even Linux has been squeezed into the Wii huh? I too should think about getting this game soon, don't want to have a patched one that would prevent me running homebrew on the recently fould exploit.

btw, i ordered super mario galaxy, i should get it today probably..
i bought smg `cus zelda doesn`t look fun anymore, in 3d :P
i have beaten hourglass, but i was very disapointed when i realised that you can`t save after the last boss..
so i`m gonna buy zelda TP just for homebrew..

EDIT: The first zelda on nes is by far the best zelda game EVER! :D

I would love to run it, but I won't be able to until an internal sd loader is made. After one of those is made the wii scene will explode. I am patiently awaiting that time

This has since been updated several times guys. Make sure you check the website for the newest if your gonna run Linux. The current version is like 0.4 and it has USB keyboard support among other things.

Ya, as phinn said, the current version is 0.4, and it supports USB Keyboards.

There is no X11.....yet.

alot of real nice game ports and a madeia player that plays anything but dvd (mp4,dvix,xvid,avi) has been released as ELF/DOL's and they all use wii linux to run! :) this has to be one of the most useful things we have had ported to wii brew!
