Bugz is my entry to the NeoFlash Spring 2008 competition.

The aim of the game is to pop as many bugz as possible by starting a chain reaction of bugz popping.
Each level has a varying amount of available bugz and a set target for the number of bugz you must pop to advance to the next level.
You only get one attempt per level, so choose your initial position wisely, timing is key!

-= FEATURES =-

- 17 levels of addictive gameplay.
- Online high score table - view and upload scores in game.
- Save & load of player and autosave feature.
- Game share ability.
- Official PSP dialogs.
- Custom soundtrack.
- Play MP3 files in game from MUSIC/ or PSP/MUSIC/ folder.
- Plus much more!

The gameplay idea is based on the excellent flash game Boomshine (http://www.k2xl.com/games/boomshine/).

Low res:

-= INSTALL =-

Copy the 'bugz' folder to PSP/GAME3XX/ (or PSP/GAME/ if your kernel is set to 3xx in the recovery menu).

-= CONTROLS =-

MENU
- Use the D-pad for navigation and X to select an option.

GAME
- Use the D-pad or analog to move the cursor and press X to start popping.
- Press RIGHT TRIGGER to skip to the next MP3 track (requires MP3 files in MUSIC/ or PSP/MUSIC/ folder).
- The MP3 files must be 44.1khz stereo to be played.

-= HIGH SCORES =-

The online high score table has a few simple methods to attempt to keep cheaters to a minimum.
If cheating is persistant, I will remove the table - don't spoil it for others.

-= CREDITS & GREETS =-

Bugz is coded in C using Phoenix Game Engine and the PSPSDK. It is a test of the code that will form the next Lua Player.

Thanks to TyRaNiD for psplink, which was used in debugging.

Special thanks to all in #psp-programming, #pspdev on irc.freenode.net and #psp on irc.malloc.us who tested, gave suggestions and supplied example code. You know who you are.

Made on a Mac.

Images - Adobe Illustrator CS2
Music - GarageBand
Code IDE - Xcode

All audio, images and content were created by David Perry (InsertWittyName).

-= KNOWN ISSUES =-

Contact me via email if you find any problems.

Custom firmware plugins that are enabled may cause the game to function incorrectly. It is recommended to disable all plugins.

^ indeed.

couldn't this one be compiled as an ISO, then compressed to CSO? :)

When I saw that it was LuaPlayer I thought... meh. But, even with that fact, this just looks too awesome not to test out. I gotta try it later :)

Edit: I was wrong, no LuaPlayer - roll on testing :)

One of the most well-done homebrew games I've played on the console. A real showcase showing what you can do with homebrew! Indeed, it looks like a commercial one. My hand will be ready to click the vote button for this soon. Congrats, and thanks!

That said, I wonder if you could make it possible to switch between the game's original soundtrack and your own music in the /MUSIC/ folder. This is the only thing I would want changed.

I'll add an options menu in a later release.

There are a few things which should be user definable (turning sound effects off so you can enjoy your pure MP3 collection, not playing MP3s from MUSIC folder etc).

i took the liberty to compile your game as an iso, and compressed it to cso [attatched to post]

i set all the copyrights to you

music works fine, but mp3's from the mem stick may not work. i haven't tried it, so no way for me to know.

drop it in your ISO folder

edit: everything is working fine. tested 100%

What's the point?

saving 1mb i guess

and making it look even more like a commercial game

you don't have to save 1mb if you don't want to :D

edit: actually, not even 1mb lol.... 400kb

and not many homebrews are compatable with ISO format due to drive mounting / set-file-path issues, so why not?

edit 2: this should work in 1.00 / 1.50 / 2.xx kernels too, even though the pbp was for 3.xx

I very much doubt it.

 I want the new luaplayer, that all I have to say, the game is really well integrated and any part of that which can be included in lua would be wonderful.

Key conepts that would be great in LuaPlayer
- PSP Style SaveGame / Autosave
- The Game Engine is wonderful
- Mp3 Compatablity
- The wifi options would be nice also!

Other Requests
- Image rotation in luaplayer would be great also, need to save on space.
- Anamated Gif Image support

Add the above to luaplayer and your a king in my eyes.
