EA’s FIFA 16 has claimed its obligatory UK No.1 at the first time of asking following its release last Thursday.
Physical unit sales are down seven per cent year-on-year (and revenue four per cent), although whether that’s an actual decline due to this year’s lightly less enthused critical response or merely symptomatic of the charts’ omission of the presumably growing digital sales pool will frustratingly remain a point of speculation.
There’s little ambiguity about the shift from last-gen to current-gen, however. Last year the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of FIFA 15 accounted for 45 per cent of week one sales. This year that figure stands at just 19 per cent.
Activision’s Skylanders Superchargers enters the Top Ten in fourth place, with Chart-Track adding that total sales of the game and its add-ons generated just over £1m throughout the week.
Elsewhere in the Top Ten Destiny: The Taken King falls one place to No.2 (with sales down 70 per cent), Forza 6 drops one place to No.3 (-46 per cent), Metal Gear Solid V also drops a place to fifth (-31 per cent) while PES 2016 drops three places to No.6 (-55 per cent).
Here’s the GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 20 for the week ending September 26th:

    1. FIFA 16 (EA)
    2. Destiny: The Taken King (Activision)
    3. Forza 6 (Microsoft)
    4. Skylanders Superchargers (Activision)
    5. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Konami)
    6. PES 2016 (Konami)
    7. Mad Max (Warner Bros)
    8. Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar)
    9. Call of Duty: Ghosts (Activision)
    10. LEGO Jurassic World (Warner Bros)
    11. Super Mario Maker (Nintendo)
    12. Disney Infinity 3.0 (Disney)
    13. Minecraft: Xbox Edition (Microsoft)
    14. Minecraft: PlayStation Edition (Sony)
    15. Blood Bowl II (Focus Home Interactive)
    16. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Microsoft)
    17. Disney Infinity 2.0 (Disney)
    18. Rugby World Cup (Big Ben)
    19. Titanfall (EA)
    20. Until Dawn (Sony)

The first boxed expansion for Activision’s Destiny debuts at No.1 in the UK, according to data from GfK Chart-Track.

This is the publisher’s first time at the top spot since Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in Week Six of this year.
The PlayStation 4 SKU took the lion’s share of sales, claiming 57 per cent of all boxed software for the game – unsurprising given PlayStation’s partnership with Activision for the online shooter.
Meanwhile the Xbox One SKU claimed 34 per cent, the 360 version took seven per cent and the PS3 edition made up two per cent.
But The Taken King’s boxed sales represent a mere 16 per cent of Destiny’s initial Week One sales. Destiny shot to No.1 when it hit shelves last September, and became the biggest selling new IP.
Of course, given that a huge number of people bought a boxed edition of Activision’s online shooter, it’s possible they will have bought The Taken King digitally – meaning that digital sales for the expansion could be considerably bigger.
There are new games in second and third place, too. Forza Motorsport 6 debuts at No.2, while Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 starts life in the charts at No.3.
Last week’s No.1, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, falls to fourth place with a 54 per cent decline in sales, while previous fourth place holder Mad Max drops to No.5 as sales dip 45 per cent.
Below is the UK software Top Ten for the week ending September 19th:
    1. Destiny: The Taken King, Activision
    2. Forza Motorsport 6, Microsoft
    3. Pro Evolution Soccer 2016, Konami
    4. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Konami
    5. Mad Max, Warner Bros
    6. Super Mario Maker, Nintendo
    7. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
    8. Disney Infinity 3.0, Disney
    9. Rugby League Live 3, Alternative Software
    10. LEGO Jurassic World, Warner Bros

Super Mario Maker has made quite the impression during its first week on sale in Japan.
The Wii U exclusive, which sees players construct their own 2D platforming levels from iconic elements of Nintendo’s flagship franchise, shot to the top of the software rankings, selling over 143,000 units.
Mario’s ascent knocked the latest in fellow iconic Japanese series Metal Gear Solid from the top spot, with The Phantom Pain on PS4 dropping to fourth. The PS3 version of the game sank to sixth.
Metal Gear Solid V sold almost a combined 500,000 units in its first week on sale in the country, with last week’s figures easily pushing the game over the half-a-million mark.
Filling the podium space in MGS5’s stead were new entry Monster Hunter Nikki: PokaPoka Felyne Village DX, a spin-off of Capcom’s highly popular multiplayer franchise, and RPG sequel Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, which remained in third place despite sales halving.
No other new entries made the Top Ten last week, with the charts largely maintaining its order from the previous week, excepting the disappearance of Mario Kart 8 and IS 2: Love and Purge.
Meanwhile, over in the hardware rankings, Wii U was spurred to the top of the heap by Super Mario Maker, sales more than doubling week-on-week.
It was followed by the New Nintendo 3DS XL and the former week’s star hardware, the PS4. The sales of the latter platform fell by more than 35,000 as MGS5’s magic began to wear off.

Sony has revealed that Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was the best-selling game on PSN in Europe in August.

The platform holder added that The Chinses Room’s title “racked up one of the highest week-one sales totals of any PS4 digital-only title to date”. MCV revealed last month that had digital sales been counted in the official UK Charts (as they most certainly should be), Rapture would have been UK No.1.
Elsewhere in the PS4 chart, Rocket League debuted in second place having ended its immensely successful PlayStation Plus promotion. There were also Top Ten debuts for Goat Simulator and Until Dawn.
Note the omission, however, of Mike Bithell’s Volume, which debuted on Sony’s service on August 18th.
