PDP, known in the gaming business for gaming accessories has released a new accessory. The Marvel Versus Fighting Pad is a wired joypad that sports micro-switches for the thumb stick and six front-facing buttons, which is what you get on most arcade consoles. Available February 14, this will set you back $40. Right now only an Xbox 360 model is planned, but if it sells well they will also be bringing it to the PS3.
MARVEL'S SUPER HEROES AND SUPER VILLAINS BATTLE ACROSS SPECIAL EDITION GAME CONTROLLER FROM PERFORMANCE DESIGNED PRODUCTS

Special Marvel-Themed Version of PDP's Patented Versus Fighting Pad Available in February

LOS ANGELES, CA – February 7, 2011 – Performance Designed Products LLC ("PDP"), a worldwide leader in the videogame accessory market, today announced the limited edition Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad for the Xbox 360. This new game pad has been designed specifically to appeal to both fighting gamers and fans of Marvel comics, with high-quality parts, unique design and explosive artwork taken from the pages of one of Marvel's biggest events of 2010: Siege. The Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad will be available at retail and on PDP.com for a suggested retail price of $39.99 beginning February 14, 2011.

"In the last few years, fighting games have re-emerged as an incredibly popular genre in the console gaming world, with a dedicated, serious audience that demands high-quality tools," said Tom Roberts, chief technical officer, Performance Designed Products. "We have designed the Versus Fighting Pad to be the ultimate game pad for fighting-game players while reflecting the super heroics of Marvel in this special-edition controller."

PDP has joined with Marvel to create the Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad, a patented, wired six-button controller specifically designed for AAA fighting games on the Xbox 360. As players would expect from an actual arcade machine, high quality micro-switch activators have been used for the thumb stick, which has been custom designed and constructed to feel like an arcade joystick but with the more comfortable and compact feel of a thumb pad.

The Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad buttons have been placed in the expected six-button configuration on the face of the pad to give the user true arcade feel and accuracy when playing fighting games. The thumb stick has a rubberized, over-tooled cap while the pad itself has a satin grip finish, which means that the controller moves exactly as players demand without slipping out of their hands.

Players can order the Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad from http://www.pdp.com

    Here is a product description:

With the upcoming release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, PDP has joined up with Marvel to create the Marvel Versus Fighting Pad. The Marvel Versus Fighting Pad is a wired six button face controller that is specifically designed for AAA fighting games on the Xbox 360 and classic games that are featured on Xbox Live. Just like an actual arcade machine, micro switch activators have been used for the thumb stick and the front 6 buttons to give the user that true arcade feel and accuracy when playing fighting games with this controller. The thumb stick is custom designed and constructed to act like a real arcade joystick but with the more comfortable and compact feel of a thumb pad. The 2 x 3 action button facing is ideal for all of the AAA fighting game titles out there, making the Versus Fighting Pad the ultimate choice for fighting games.

Sony Computer Entertainment America's been pretty mad lately with the likes of Geroge Hotz and Fail0verflow for hacking their PS3 last month. Recently they've made moves to subpoena the likes of Google, Twitter, Youtube, Paypal and other sites for information to find and sue the hackers. Unfortunately, PSX-Scene reports that Honorable Susan Illston has denied the company's request for expedited discovery, meaning they can't serve mentioned sites the notice. In addition, a hearing for the motion that was scheduled today has been moved to March 11th 2011. ...

Eurogamer has reported that Activision has axed the Guitar Hero series and will be laying off a lot of employees including developers working on DJ Hero. It seems that the music genre doesn't have the same mass appeal as it did years ago and the fad is dying.
UPDATE: Reports are coming in that layoffs have also hit the Activision-owned developer Vicarious Visions. Developer Manveer Heir tweeted this evening to say, "Ugh sorry to hear about the Vicarious Visions layoffs today after Guitar Hero canceled. Shitty. Sounds like Freestyle (DJ Hero) got hit too."

ORIGINAL STORY: Activision has hit DJ Hero developer Freestyle Games with severe layoffs and axed the Guitar Hero series, Eurogamer understands.

United Front's open world game True Crime has been cancelled, sources have told Eurogamer.

An announcement is expected tonight ahead of the publication of Activision's financial results.

In December last year Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said Guitar Hero, and the music genre, had a future following dismal sales of Warriors of Rock.

"It's no secret that not just Guitar Hero, but also Rock Band, and the music category in general, do not have the same mass appeal today that they did a few years ago," he said.

"That said, I think that we would be foolish to not try and build on the strength of the Guitar Hero brand, because as you said, it's a pretty strong brand with great recognition and great likeability, and there's a lot to work with there.

"I think the road to rejuvenating that category goes through innovation," he continued. "The premise of Guitar Hero - that everyone has an inner rock star - it's something that we've all done forever. Some version of singing into a hairbrush, or holding a tennis racket like a guitar, or singing karaoke, or singing into the bathroom mirror - we all do that.

"I think a lot of video game genres that have had tremendous staying power have a fantasy-fulfillment element at their core, whether it's driving the fast car, or participating in professional sports, or going into battle. People don't get to do this in everyday lives.

"So I think the core premise and the core insight at the heart of the Guitar Hero franchise is still very relevant. I just think we need to escalate the experience for people and innovate. I think the genre is still fairly new, and so I think it's probably time for us to really look at what the next level looks like for that genre."

The publisher had confirmed the return of the franchise in 2011.
Do you think there was too many versions of the franchise that it killed itself? Or was it bound to happen? Let us know what you think.

    2. Pandora News

    News/release from Evildragon

HotFix 5 is finally nearing completion. It's pretty stable already, so we got out of the Beta-Status and into RC 1.
It's not the final one yet and might have some bugs left, but it should run mostly without issues.
The final release will only add bugfixes and no new features.

It's still not in PND-form, so flashing this puts your Pandora back to the state you got it. Be sure to backup anything you put on the internal storage if you need it.
I'll work on making a PND-HF5-Installer for the final release.

Here are the changes that happened from Beta 4 to RC1:

    * Added codepages (they had been removed when AbiWord has been removed). This prevented some apps like XBMC from starting.
    * Removed the community backdrops to make the image size smaller.
    * Added xdotool, a pretty useful and versatile app for mapping GUI functions to the keyboard
    * Added Pandora Input Tester to the System-Menu
    * Input Tester: Show keys that have been pressed
    * libpnd: Increased the number of apps that can be defined in a PND from 20 to 50
    * op_menu: specify field width for longer usernames (this fixes the non-working Pandora-Menu button in XFCE for some users)
    * Low Power Mode: Now using cpu-speed-script to properly set the CPU Speed back
    * MiniMenu: Some bug fixes (Keyboard-Shortcut wasn't working, crashed with wrong categories), etc.
    * MiniMenu: Added Subcategory-folders in the Main Category
    * MiniMenu: Added OVR-Editor
    * MiniMenu: Added the possibility to add custom categories / subcategories (otherwise, the Freedesktop-Standard is used)

As you can see, there are a LOT of good new things happening with MiniMenu, thanks a lot to skeezix for this!

MiniMenu now supports subcategories as folders. On the main tab, only the main categories are shown. The grid shows ALL programs in that category as well as all available subcategories as folders. You can go into the folder to only view the programs within that subcategory.

If you have an program selected, you can press SPACE to open an OVR editor. You can change the category / subcategory as well as the name or CPU speed.
You can also hide an app if you want.

Please test these new features of MiniMenu!

In case you haven't checked the changes of HF5 Beta 1, 2 or 3 yet, here is the link to the the Beta 1 thread, here to the Beta 2 thread, here to the Beta 3 thread and here to the Beta 4 thread.

    Download the latest version here.

    How to flash the image?

Easy: Download the zipped image and extract the full contents onto the root of your SD Card.
Put the SD Card into slot 1 (the left one), switch on the Pandora while holding the R-Shoulder button and select "boot from SD1:1"

The flashing process should start. After it's finished, reboot the unit.
The first boot will take a while (up to 10 minutes). Patiently wait and you'll be greeted with the First Boot Wizard. ...

BetablockerDS is an audio manipulation homebrew built by dave for the DS. It is a touch based audio livecoding in assembler, based on his original project of the same name. For more information and instructions on how this app works, please visit the project homepage via the link below.

    QUOTE
Livecoding is programming in front of an audience (usually starting with a blank screen) and desperately trying to make something vaguely dancable before you get booed off.
I wanted to use my old DS to perform with, and came up with this. Not very easy to use yet, but it works.

    Newly released/updated for the Pandora:

This game recreates the engines of Boulder Dash, Emerald Mine, Supaplex and Sokoban, and does so faithfully enough to be able to replay the original games. However, it doesn't stop there. The game evolved enough to be able to use elements from all 4 games at the same time, use of custom behaviour elements and all sort of trickery that can turn the game in something completely different. Thanks to this customizability, the game has spawned hundreds and hundreds of custom levels. Highlights include Snakebite, R'n'D jue special collection or the Zelda adventures. Also for the more purists, thousands of the original levels for the original Emerald Mine, Supaplex, Boulderdash and Sokoban are available, converting this game almost into an ultimate collection.Check http://www.artsoft.org/rocksndiamonds/levels.html for more levels and drop them to the appdata/rocksndiamonds/.rocksndiamonds/levels folder.Update by EvilDragon:notaz SDL didn't work properly here (though I HAD it working manually at one time on my card...), so I changed it back.Added tons of new levels and classic sounds though

Roto over at Hackmii has released a new version of the exploit for the game Lego Star Wars the complete saga, its now compatible with the Japanese version.

    Heres more details:
[UPDATE: New version, now properly supporting JPN region, with thanks to "Nekokabu" and "airline38"!]

    Prerequisites

    1. SD card (not SHDC) formatted as FAT16 or FAT32
    2. Some possibility to copy the savegame from the PC to the SD card (i.e. card reader)
    3. Lego Star Wars (you have to boot it at least once before)
    4. Some homebrew software to load, e.g. the HackMii Installer. Although this isn't necessary, it's highly recommended

    Howto

    1. (OPTIONAL) If you have an existing "Lego Star Wars" savegame. MOVE it to another SD CARD.
    2. Copy the "private" directory from the Return of the Jodi download to the root of your SD card.
    3. Take your homebrew and put it in the ROOT of your SD card as "boot.elf"
    4. Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
    5. Go into Wii Options -> Data Management -> Save Data -> Wii.
    6. Go to SD card and select the "Return of the Jodi" savegame that corresponds to your game region.
    7. NOTE: Some people are having problems with the Wii not "seeing" the savegame on the SD card. If you are experiencing this, try setting the archive bit for the data.bin file. In Windows this can be either be done from the file's properties dialog (right click on it in Windows Explorer and check the box) or from the command line using "attrib +a ". More info at #wiihelp on EFnet.
    8. Copy the savegame to the Wii.
    9. Boot Lego Star Wars.
    10. Load the saved game you just copied to the Wii.
