Matt Miller of ustwo has said that fragmentation is by far the biggest problem holding back Google's Android platform – saying that it makes developers work harder than they have to for Apple's iOS.

Speaking as part of a panel on how to be a successful mobile developer at the Evolve in London event, Miller made clear that standardisation has to be a key point on Google's agenda if it intends to attract the sort of success that Apple has with the App store.

"At the moment it's fragmentation," replied Miller, when asked what he saw as the biggest problem with Android.

"There are so many different devices for Android that you have to put so much more effort into doing it right – and if you're not going to do it right, don't bother doing it.

"Because of that fragmentation it makes it so much more of a hassle for us – it tires and drains you."

Ustwo is the studio behind mobile app MouthOff, which has sold over 100,000 copies on iPhone, whilst the Android version has only just reached 4000 sales - although Miller admitted to the Android version being marketed "less aggressively".

Also speaking on the panel were Hand Circus' Simon Oliver, Neonplay's Oli Christie and Matthew Wiggins of Wonderland Software. Wiggins was emphatic in his support of Miller's argument, calling the fragmentation a "complete nightmare" which Google must address.

Former SEGA mastermind Yu Suzuki has tantalisingly teased that Shenmue 3 is much more than a fantasy - it exists.

"The concept for Shenmue 3 already exists, so..." laughed Suzuki, talking to 1UP.

"Shenmue 3 doesn't expand outward, but inward. A lot of the dialogue is used for the main character and especially dialogue with Shenhua [the girl]. They [Shenhua and Ryo] talk about a lot of different, deeper things.

"This is not actually in the game, but an example to give you an idea of what I mean by deeper dialogue: when Shenhua and Ryo are at home, Shenhua will ask Ryo if he would like to drink tea or coffee and the player will select one or the other. Or, Shenhua will ask Ryo a hypothetical question like: 'There are four animals; a monkey, cat, dog and bird. You are crossing the river but you need to leave one behind. Which one will you leave behind?"' And the player has to choose one.

"Shenhua will ask lots and lots of questions like these and the answers will get stored in the game and affect the outcome of the player's relationship with other characters. It's like a personality test. For example, the person who leaves behind the monkey is the type of person who leaves their wife."

SEGA put an end to the expensive, revered Shenmue series after a second Dreamcast instalment. Simply, sales didn't justify the investment.

Today, Yu Suzuki is at work on the Shenmue licence once again, but as a mobile game for Yahoo - a project dubbed Shenmue City.

"We can't say never," Suzuki said of the possibility of one day developing Shenmue 3. "This topic steps into sensitive territory, but history hasn't always been kind to SEGA and there were some difficult years, sales-wise. Business was tough, and they couldn't take risks on big titles."

SEGA has settled for developing the Shenmue and GTA-like Yakuza series in recent years.

Shenmue 2 was released in 2001, and may have been the most anticipated Dreamcast game ever. Luckily, Eurogamer existed back then, and a fresh-faced Tom Bramwell was the man to appraise the beast. What did he think? "The problem is, nothing seems to be quite as special as it was the first time around. That sense of awe and wonder just doesn't hit you with Shenmue 2. Sure, it's an extremely technically impressive game, and there's some decent advancements within the game dynamic, but it's essentially just what we were expecting and secretly I wish it wasn't. There's no surprise, no intrigue, and the proceedings are slightly tainted with a 'here we go again' atmosphere."

Anti-piracy measures don't come more ingenious than overlaying hacked DS versions of Michael Jackson: The Experience with a vuvuzela drone. Especially when you consider that Ubisoft apparently knew nothing about it.

But the inventor, Marcelo Oliveira, knows that annoying as the South African plastic horn can be, it may take a teensy bit more to curb piracy completely.

"When I came up with the idea," he said (according to Tiny Cartridge), "I thought it would at least make the game pirates laugh.

"I never imagined it would become so popular and show up on so many sites, and that the original Youtube video would have over 140,000 views."

Oliveira worked for Ubisoft São Paulo, for which MJ: The Experience is reported to be its last ever game.

How many consoles from this generation have now been sold around the UK? Answer: 32.4 million.

That covers everything from PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 to DS and PSP. The number was found buried within a meaty GAME financial paper.

Chart-Track, data-tracker and publisher of the results, didn't break down the number by platform. But we can assume that Nintendo's consoles dominate the pile, Xbox 360 is sandwiched somewhere in the middle and Sony's machines snap at heels from the rear.

The new total (based on sales ending 4th December 2011) signifies a 5.2 million bump on last year's lump sum. That's the slowest growth for a couple of years, but with Kinect and Move out and 3DS on the horizon, 2011 could set about rectifying that. Similarly, if Nintendo chose to dock the price of Wii, sales may once more shoot through the roof.

Sony has offered PlayStation Plus subscribers perhaps the premium service's most eye-catching deal yet: LittleBigPlanet spin-off Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves free of charge.

Plus subscribers will be able to download the PlayStation Move-compatible game a week before it goes on general release on 15th December. Wait, that's today!

The idea is for the person with the Move controller to flick switches to help people using the normal PS3 pad controls to progress.

As an additional treat, the LittleBigPlanet 2 beta will be extended – but only for PS Plus subscribers. "We were gutted we couldn't give you the first LBP2 beta exclusively but to hopefully make up for it a little, we have managed to persuade the guys to extend the LBP2 beta for you Plus members," PlayStation Network product manager James Thorpe said on the EU PlayStation Blog.

"The numbers are unfortunately limited but if you have been chosen then you should have already received an email and are hopefully playing, creating and sharing as we speak."

He added: "This is just the start of the December treats so keep your eyes open for another update very soon."

The PS3's PlayStation Plus service launched in the summer. It costs £39.99 annually - or £11.99 for 90 days.

Downgrading your PS3 MAY in SOME cases STOP you from watching any Blu-Ray movies! (Games still work!)

Ok, we need to work on this Blu-Ray playback it is MAJOR PROBLEM!

I was able to restore one machine I had, by copying over all the files I had in the /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 back to the HDD, that I had saved before when it was on v3.41

But that does not help those that were on v3.50 factory fresh or with no previous full /dev_flash2 & 3 backup.

I not sure what file was that fixed the problem.

We need more machines, more tests.

I going start a thread and warn people right now!

The people having bluray movies playback issues after downgrading, this happens because you updated to a modified PUP (psjb one) which has its /dev_flash3/ tarball swapped (probably to a debug one, debug consoles do not sport bd movies playback) with other CRL/DRL revocation files.

Having read some posts online, it seems that majority of people who did downgrade, still have a working BD Playback for movies. Interesting. Could it be the downgrade files (modified 3.41 PUP) that is causing the problem?

*UPDATE to possible fix by Mathieulh*
Replacing /dev_flash3/ to a backup according to multiple accounts, fixed the problem.

However, the above method does no good for consoles that came pre-installed with 3.50 as there is no "dev_flash3" to backup from. You can also see what other people are using to downgrade, what consoles they're using and if they are affected over at PSX-Scene (Blu-ray player, does yours still work after downgrade).

    DiiLC 1.2.2 released by Conanac

DiiLC is a simple application to download and insert the DLC (downloadable content) or HDLC (hacked downloadable content) into Animal Crossing City Folk savegame file (use Waninkoko's savegame extractor for extracting savegame file). This application searches the DLC and HDLC files from the distributing servers. It could download and insert four DLCs (for US, EU, JP, and KR regions) and one HDLC that are available at the time when the application is running. It will process item, design and associated chosen letter from the downloaded file (either DLC or HDLC). User could choose to directly store the letter with item or design pattern into either the chosen player pocket and design slots (including global design slot in Able Sister's shop) or ask Wendell and Pete to deliver those.

    1.2.2 – 05 December 2010

    News via http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/scea-...-action-72427/

On the eve of everyone screaming about the new v3.55 Firmware update, killing off the Downgrading PS3 consoles.

Sony has also been busy with new paperwork in a court room today, and have re-opened their case against the Jailbreakers in the United States.

Lucky, for everyone it is almost XMAS season, so the next big court date will be February 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in front of Honorable Richard Seeborg which will now also take place in the Golden Gate city of San Francisco.

In the meantime SCEA is busy filing court papers and most likely new printouts from all the forum sites and other sites that have appeared in the last month with the outbreak of all these new fancy dongles and downgrades.

So it seems tonight, Sony is not happy with just releasing a v3.55 update, it looks like they plan a new court battle also, and we here at PSX-SCENE will keep you updated as SCEA starts filing their paperwork thruout the XMAS holidays.

Sony becomes the new Scrooge in our holiday books this year! ...
